Black Politics Today

The political conscience for African Americans, exploring the social, economic and political impact that public policies have on the African American community. We let you know,"What's At Stake" for our community. "It's About Us!"

    Why Did You Lie?

For 2yrs the Louisiana State Police lied to the family of Ronald Green and portrayed that Mr. Green had died as a result of crashing his car into a tree and dying on impact. That was a Bold Face Lie.  So, why did the LSP maintain this lie for two years and never provide the family with the truth of their loved one? The reason, because ALL COPS LIE to protect their buddy in BLUE! Cops have been lying for generations, and black men have been on the other end of those lies, and have died from every one of them.  Tonight we'll speak with Lousiana State Representative Edward "Ted" James. The lies that kill.

    Equal Access...?

Does Black America really have Equal Access?

  3. 131

Flashback - Reconstruction of Jim Crow

Reconstruction was a time for African-Americans to integrate and participate in the fabric of America. Instead, Jim Crow limited that integration & our access to the ballot box. The 21st Century Reconstruction, a time when Black America is still fighting for equal rights, civil rights, jobs, housing, education, and voting rights. And the question is...Why?

    Uncertain Reality

We’re living in an “uncertain reality," so what comes next? What will come from the Chauvin conviction, HR1, or the John Lewis Act? Not to mention the investigation and prosecution of Rudy Giuliani and the January 6th white supremacists. We'll ask Durham County Sheriff, Clarence Birkhead.

  5. 129

The Verdict Is In, But Does It Make A Difference?

The verdict is in, but does it make a difference? Many would say no! On the very day of the guilty verdict of Derrick Chauvin, knife welding Ma'Khia Bryant was shot four times by Columbus Police, sparking more tension and protests through downtown Columbus, Ohio. So, does it matter that the murderer of George Floyd was convicted of his hanious crime, if only hours later, another African-American dies? Our guests will share their experience and perspective on Policing in America.

    America's Democracy

In America, we are afforded what is known as a Bill of Rights. We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. But in 2021, Black Americans don’t seem to have any rights. No Bill of Rights, no Judicial Rights, and certainly no Voting Rights. So, where does that leave us? We'll ask Dr. Wilmer Leon, III host of SiriusXM broadcasts "Inside the Issues with Leon"

Texas Hold'em "The Stacey Abrams Bills"

Some 43 States have introduced and passed a number of voter suppression bills, specifically designed to address the expanded voter rolls of African-Americans voting and Democrats winning the White House and U.S. Senate. Unfortunately, it didn't help at the state level. Even with that fact, Republicans continue to spew the lie that the 2020 election was full of voter fraud. Yet, they have never been able to provide any factual evidence. Georgia's voter law is the Stacey Abrams Law. It is meant to obstruct Stacey's ability to garner the votes she'll need to win Georgia's governor's race. Now, Texas has passed its version of the Stacey Abrams Bill.  Now the question is, what will Black America do? What will you do in your state?

    The Vision that Pays

Alderman Robin Rue Simmons has done more to right America's wrong than Congress has done in 156 years. Ald. Ruth Rue Simmons has been able to do what no member of congress has... Make a difference for Black America.

  9. 125

    Jim Crow, on my Mind

Georgia State Legislature has just implemented, the most racist and draconian piece of legislation to block and deny Black America from voting since Jim Crow. They have essentially told Black voters unless you're white, Republican, and live in the most prominent communities, don't worry about showing up, because we've put obstacles in place to stop you people from voting and turning our state blue. Georgia State Representative Roger Bruce and New Georgia Project CEO Nse' Ufot joins us for the discussion.

  10. 124

    Racial Armageddon

"RACIAL ARMAGEDDON" Are you prepared for the "War on Race?" Across the country today, white supremacy is ever-present in our daily lives. America is facing a “Racial Armageddon.” America is fighting a war on humanity, a war on our consciousness, on our freedoms, on our civil rights, and our democracy! #TakeAStand #TheBlackReset #ItsAboutUs! #RacialArmageddon

  11. 123

It's About Us! - Equal Access

Today across the country Black America is under attack by the Right. More than 253 bills are now circulating through 43 State Legislatures that would dramatically impact Black America's ability and right to vote! In every case, the message is clear, that Black America need not show up at the polls. And we, white america will utilize our perceived power to stop you from taking away what's rightfully ours, (that perceived power). We know, that if you were to have controls of government like we have, you'll do to us, what we did to you, and we just can't have that. So, we're going to impose Jim Crow voting laws to block you from being able to vote in large numbers that could produce a victory like you did in Georgia. We're not going to stand for that, and we're going to stop you before you can vote. That's the power of White Supremacy.

  12. 122

    The Battle of PA

Lt. Governor John Fetterman discusses the role of government in an ever-growing absence of elected officials who want to govern. Today, more members of our state legislatures and congress govern based on fear rather than policy. Pennsylvania Lt. Governor touches down on BPT's "What's At Stake" to discuss Pardons, the PA Supreme Court and legislation looking to deny Black voters equal access to the ballot box while attempting to gerrymander the States Supreme Court with new laws. Will Lt. Governor John Fetterman's statue give the GOP pause? We'll find out on Monday at 7PM We ask, what's makes him different?

  13. 121

Black Power! Power to the People!

Much like the coronavirus vaccine, the Black vote is powerful. Unfortunately, in America, granting access to resources that empower Black Americans isn't always welcomed. The Republican Party has done an About Face when it comes to voting, similarly states have done the same when it comes to the coronavirus vaccine. The things that are important and vital to our existence and power they want to keep from us. Education, healthcare, jobs, the vaccine, and our vote.  So, we discuss it with Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, Dr. Freddie D. Haynes, and Sheriff Clarence Birkhead.  Join us.

Flashback - Reconstruction and Jim Crow

Reconstruction was a time for African-Americans to integrate and participate in the fabric of America. Instead, Jim Crow limited that integration & our access to the ballot box. Today, 28 states have introduced 106 Jim Crow Laws that restrict access to voting, hurting people of color. Pennsylvania headlines our discussion with Rep. Christopher Rabb (D-PA, 200th) who shares his views on the 21st Century Reconstruction, a time when Black America is still fighting for equal rights, civil rights, jobs, housing, education, and voting rights. And the question is...Why?

    The Black Reset

In the wake of the sanctioned murders of unarmed Black men and women like Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Atatinana Jefferson, Aura Rosser, Stephon Clark, and most recently Jacob Blake who was shot 7 times in the back at point-blank range by, you guessed it another white cop, who will certainly claim that he was fearing for his life, as Jacob Blake slowly walked away from the officer, to get into his car, we find ourselves again discussing police brutality, systemic racism and pure disregard for Black human life.  In spite of all of this, Black America must focus on multiple areas of struggle in their community, including and arguably the most important, which is economic opportunity and stability. The Black Economy that saw a dramatic increase during the 1990s and again in 2009 when Black unemployment dropped to 5% until 2017 when a making-of another recession crept into our economy as the result of poor leadership in Washington. African-American unemployment stands today at 16.8% the highest its every been since the Great Depression. More than half of Black small businesses have closed their doors forever. Nearly 25% of COVID19 deaths are Black. Black America can no longer continue on this path. It’s time for the Black Reset! #TheBlackReset My guest to discuss the opportunity to reset the Black economy is Jeri Green, Kevin Kimble, LaTosha Brown, Brandon Andrews, and Dr. Maya Rockymoore Cummings. It's Time for #TheBlackReset

    Equal Access?

From economic instability, food insecurity, and our voting rights being suppressed; Will Black America ever realize... Equal Access to anything?  My guest, Founder/CEO Kevin Kimble and Willie Pelote, CEO, Pelote Strategic Advisors, join me to discuss the financial playing field for African-Americans. Georgia State Rep. Mesha Mainor also joins us to discuss the Georgia Republicans efforts to eliminate early and absentee voting in Georgia.  Also, invited is Minority Leader, Beverly.

    Democracy in Black

Is your ability to obtain gainful employment, housing, healthcare in jeopardy? Are you concerned about the vaccination and your ability to get one? Tonight, we discuss "what's at stake" for you and your family.

    Black Wall Street

It was May 31, 1921 when at the sound of a whistle, a white racist mob of citizens with the support of the police, converged upon a Tulsa neighborhood known as Greenwood.  Greenwood as a small tight community of black folks who owned and operated their small businesses just like every other American citizen and every other business owner.  But, in Tulsa, as well as other parts of the country African-Americans had procured their own. Their own homes, businesses, banks, hotels, movie theaters, grocery stores… you name it we claimed it. We didn’t ask anyone for it, we took it, we built it, we OWNED IT!  And it became known, and Black Wall Street.  Because a lot like Prince George’s County, it was one of the wealthiest areas in which African-Americans lived owned and operated and it was the envy of white folks. They couldn’t understand or accept the fact that in 1921, Black Americans owned movie theaters, hotels, banks, and didn’t need white folks for nothing. And so, on May 31st, 1921, that white mod, with the whistle as their signal….robbed, burned…looted, and murdered over 300 black men women and children and completely destroyed Greenwood, known as Black Wall Street.  And they did this with no repercussion, no accountability, no remorse, and no police action. Leaving those who survived homeless, jobless, businessless, and so many lifeless. And this was the place that Donald Trump, took his campaign this past weekend to keep off his re-election bid. On the memory and death of African-Americans.  My Guest Brandon Andrews, Innovator, Consultant and Co-founder of Gauge.

The Social Contract - Equality Not Revenge

Trevor Noah said it best; life is like dominos. One-piece knocks down another piece that knocks down yet another. And although you realize that in life, you often forget that very real ideal. We’ve all experienced it, one thing goes wrong, and then another and then another, and we cry out, “if it ain’t one thing it’s another!” That’s precisely what America is dealing with right now. First, it was Coronavirus and the deaths associated with that. Then it was the lockdown, which lead to unemployment and the massive layoffs, that then impacted the economy, and then you get word of another death of an unarmed black man at the hands of two white men. Shortly after that, you’re told of a white woman threatening a black man, minding his own business, with the police, because he asked her to put her dog on a leash. And finally, you watch for eight minutes and forty-six seconds, while a white cop – really three white cops – places his knee on the man's neck while he begs for his life and tells the police “I Can’t Breathe” to let him up and not kill him, only to have the cop exert more pressure and do precisely that, kill him! The Social Contract, that America is intrinsically supposed to abide by, only applies to white America, because that contract for Black America, has been broken! Hear how Kimberly Jones expresses her view of the Contract in her own way. Parental Discretion Advised.

    Presidential Insurrection

On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, Donald J. Trump invited and incited a movement to overthrow our federal and state governments as a result of the 2020 Presidential election being certified and accepted by Congress.  His volatile language and lies lead uneducated and ignorant Americans to believe that an insurrection lead by Donald Trump would result in him being re-elected or in this case, mandated as President of the United States. Fortunately, that is not the case and would not happen just because these lowlife insurrectionist thugs wanted it to. However, their attempt to overthrow our federal and many state governments, as they marched into our nation's capital armed with rifles, handguns, and explosives in an effort to threaten and intimidate members of Congress to reject the will of the people, our democracy sat in the balance. Our governmental institution was invaded and vandalized for personal and political gain because the current occupant of the White House violated his oath of office and our constitution.  Tonight we discuss the strength or lack thereof our democracy and the seditious acts of members of congress. Our guest, Dr. Wilmer Leon, III, Brandon Andrews, and Sheriff Clarence Birkhead.

    Destiny with the Truth

There comes a time in life when you have to face reality. That time has come for America, especially Black America. The current state of Black America was on the rise under President Barack Obama, but, today it's on the decline. More Black small businesses have been lost in 8 months than have been in two decades. Youth unemployment is higher than ever. In addition, the C-in-C has been diagnosed with his hoax and there's no miracle in sight.  Given the continuous lies told by this administration, Americans must face the truth and recognize that a change must come.

  22. 112

    Our Moment of Truth

The November election demonstrated that this country is completely divided by race and politics. Our guests share their thoughts of what the 2020 elections could produce with another term of Donald Trump or a new four years with a Biden/Harris administration. With the results in, hear what our panel had to say about the 2020 Elections.

  23. 111

    Ready for Change

Four years ago Black America we were asked "what the hell do we have to lose?" And now four years later, we know!  Our economy is the worst since the Great Depression. Black unemployment is its highest in decades. The poverty rate has doubled. And African-American account for 25 percent of all Coronavirus deaths!  Voter suppression is on the rise and there's no end in sight. So, Black America, what do you have to lose? Everything.  Join me on Monday, October 26th as we discuss the future of Black America because we are Ready for Change! And that Change is on November 3rd. Don't sacrifice your future with another four years of lies, deaths, higher unemployment, and no healthcare.  So, on Tuesday, November 3rd let's send the message, it's time for #TheBlackReset! Because this time around, #ItsAboutUs! and #WEVOTE!   My panel tonight will guide us to the change we need. Dr. Omekongo Dibinga, Ms. Meisha Robinson, Mr. Brandon Andrews, and Dr. Maya Rockymoore Cummings lend their insight and wisdom to move Black America to a new destiny.

    What's Next

The people have spoken, now hear from democrats, republicans, and independents on the results. There was some very interesting beliefs expressed this time around.

  25. 109

    What's Next?

Now, with 270 Electoral votes banked and likely more to come, the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is dug into a pretend legal battle that other GOP Senators and Governors are encouraging and supporting, knowing that there is no legal basis for the numerous frivolous lawsuits. Now, remember people, the GOP constantly target and call out “Democrats” because they are supported by the Trial Lawyers Association for what they call FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS when it comes to Personal Injuries. These are frivolous according to the GOP, and yet they are supporting and pushing Donald Trump to file lawsuits that he has lost in every case up to now.

  26. 108

    Our Moment of Truth

With 24hrs until the polls close across the country in your various time zones. The future of America will be in your hands. And what you decide to do will determine if America continues on or if Trumpian continues to move us to an authoritarian state.  So, whatever you decide I hope you can live witht the results. If you decide to do nothing like so many of you did in 2016 and 2018, I hope you can live with the results.   My guests tonight are going to give us a glimps into what happens on Wednesday, November 4th.

    Notorious RBG

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, better known as, the Notorious RBG, accomplished three things on Friday, September 18, 2020; she cemented her legacy as a jurist, who’s unwavering values were faith, family, and fellow man/woman. She opened the eyes of America, and she called out women and Democrats for their ignorance and lack of vision. Justice Ginsburg had a heart for justice. Not justice for democrats. Not justice for agreeing with her. Not justice for women. Not justice for men. Not justice for Jews. And Not justice for Non-Jews. Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s body of work highlights her work for the justice that the scales suggest that every member of the legal profession is to embody, that blind impartial justice that everyone especially disenfranchised, blacks, women, and other minorities are entitled to as American citizens, but aren’t getting. And although, as a Jewish woman she began fighting for her own rights, that fight spilled over into the rights of all women and men.  So, the reality is that if Democrats in 2016 would have kept their eye on the issue, the policies, the consequences of what would happen to the SCOTUS seat of Barack Obama and what would happen to DACA, or what would have to Voting Rights, or what would happen to women’s reproductive rights, and what would happen to the environment, instead of whether or not Hillary Clinton was the one you wanted to support because of personality, Democrats would be the party with a 6-to-3 Supermajority on the Supreme Court and the  280+ seats on the federal bench, not republicans. It’s unfortunate, that Democrats need love to move their policy instead of principle. My guest tonight is my good friend my brotha and economic partner, Rep. Jason Fields, representing the 11th District of Milwaukee, WI

Proud Boys and the 11%...Our Moment of Truth

Donald Trump told the 'Proud Boys' to standby to receive instructions on election day; Democracy Day! The day every American, can express his/her civil liberties in voting for whom they desire as long as you're white or conservative. For African-Americans, the fact that a sitting President could not denounce white supremacy only broadens the belief that the person sitting in the White House is racist and he welcomes the votes and support of white supremacist groups and cares nothing about the civil rights or voting rights of Black Americans.  Thus, the words have been said. The actions are being taken to stop, block, and delay the vote of millions of Americans, especially in communities of color in battleground states. Voting lines are hours long, and a pandemic of historic measure rages on with no end in sight. So, once again the question is asked, what's at stake for you and your family? Moreover, what are you prepared to do about it? We can't emphasize it enough, it's time for #TheBlackReset, because on Nov 3rd #ItsAboutUS! And this time around, #WeVote!

Emancipation of Historical Black Colleges - It's About Us!

Can you imagine in 2021, one hundred years after the destruction of the infamous Black Wall Street, that Black America recreates a historical and complete community symbolizing the historic Black Wall Street or the famous Rosewood communities; and in doing so, establishes its economic infrastructure to address healthcare, education, jobs, etc.? What if Black 5 Star Athletes decided to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities instead of PWC’s? And what if those HBCUs emancipated themselves from the NCAA and created their quasi-NCAA just for HBCUs? If Black America decided to become Black America, what would happen? Our panelists to help us discuss COVIDs Black Reality, the Pipeline to Prison, and the Emancipation of HBCUs is Dr. Darvin Adams I, Dr. Judy Lubin, Sheriff Clarence Birkhead, Prof. Sharon Kyle, and Speaker Jason Frierson, with special guests panelists Ms. Jami Dunham and Mr. Bernard Perry.

Is It Real for You Yet?

Is it real for you yet? If reality hasn’t hit you square in the face then you’re clearly as ignorant as the Test Tube Baby attempting to lead this county. It’s obvious that you're still walking around with your head up your behind and without a doubt don’t care about anything or anyone! Any American who can continue to embrace this individual whose oath of office specifically says his responsibility is to protect the American people not just from foreign and domestic terrorists but also from a national healthcare crisis is utterly void of any American values. This childish schoolyard bully lied about the pandemic and its deadly consequences and now nearly 200k Americans have died. Americans who if they were told the truth could have taken precautions that may have saved their lives. Instead, they are dead. This pathetic case for a human being has done nothing but drive America into the same plight he did his businesses six times; He’s driven us into bankruptcy; morally, financially, ethically, internationally, emotionally, mentally, and physically. America has accepted a would-be Autocrat. So, the question remains, is it real for you yet? Because the reality is this incompetent fool, then you really have no morals or convictions and my suggestion for you is…to pull your macrocephalic head out of your behind and suck in as much Corona as you can and die! You’re worthless! And frankly, no one will care. Bye Felicia! My guest tonight to discuss the lunacy of Black America to embrace or follow this absolute idiot is Law Professor publisher of LA Progressive a BPT Contributor Sharon Kyle along with adjunct political science professor, BPT Contributor, and host of SiriusXM Inside the Issues w/Wilmer Leon is Dr. Wilmer Leon III

    Sisterhood - Black Girl Magic

The selection of Senator Kamala Harris, (D- CA) as former Vice President Joe Biden’s running mate not only made history as the first African-American woman on a major party presidential ticket but also the first time a Historical Black College or University will be represented if elected in the White House.  Senator Harris’ mixed race and strong legal background makes her a formidable choice to ignite the most loyal voting base of the democratic party and represents the majority of the voting population across the nation. Women are 51 percent of the population and 60 percent of the voting population of the democratic party. So the question is, will Senator Harris deliver the votes Democrats will need to overcome a wounded incumbent that has a 92 percent approval rating among republicans and holds a favorable lead on the economy even with 50 million Americans out of work. Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) and their participation as a whole in the 2020 Elections will be key and crucial to the potential victory of the Biden/Harris ticket. So, will a mixed-race African-American Southeast Asian woman, an HBCU graduate, a former State Attorney General, and current U.S. Senator, complete a cycle for victory that will bring the first woman and African-American woman to the White House? That's the question before us tonight.  My guests, former Ambassador Suzan "Sujay" Johnson Cook and Willie Pelote, President of Pelote Strategic Advisors.

It's About US! LIVE Town Hall Meeting

The underlying truth is that police brutality is one of the most significant indicators that black people aren’t valued in America. Moreover, they have been isolated economically for centuries. African-Americans have been treated poorly time and time again. They have been sprayed with fire hoses, attacked by police dogs, beaten by police and denied their constitutional rights. America has never treated African-Americans with the equal protection under the law. In fact, its been the quite opposite.   So, tonight our panel of subject matter experts will discuss the problem and the solutions to ending what Black America has come to know as Police Brutality, Voter Suppression, and Systemic Racism. And we'll chart down the path of the 2020 Census and its impact on the Black community in the next 10 years.   Don't miss Dr. Judy Lubin, President of C.U.R.E., Ret. Det. Marq Claxton, Sharon Kyle, JD, Dr. Wilmer Leon, III, Rep. Jason Fields, and Dr. Jeanine A. McLean, as they share their insights and wisdom on the topics impacting Black American the most.

Constitutional Crisis - The GOP's Tyranny of America

Do you remember when the constitution actually meant something? Do you remember when it actually meant something to the breast pocket carrying Republican Party? Remember when anything the Democrats did was 'Violated the Constitution?' In 2016, everything about the U.S. Constitution went out the window with the election of Donald Trump. Today's Republican Party can't seemed to remember anything about the Constitution or the Rule of Law. From Guliani admitting that his scheduled trip to Ukraine was designed to get the Ukrainian government to investigate claims on behalf of Donald Trump to help him in his re-election bid, to the investigation one of Trumps Presidential opponent, Democrat former Vice President Joe Biden's son, in an effort to dig up dirt on Biden. In fact, in five states the GOP is on another mission to overturn Roe v. Wade by passing legislation at the state level that would prohibit a womans constitutional right to have an abortion. Their strategic intent is to pass legislation in republican controlled states in order to eventually get the conservative leaning Supreme Court to overturn the 14th & 15th Admendments. With Ohio and Alabama (proposed) having the two most severe versions of these anti-abortion rights laws; the GOP is moving swiftly to pass these laws and force women underground, causing even more deaths as a result of illegal abortion procedures.  Joining me tonight is Ohio State Senator Sandra Williams and Alabama State Senator Bobby Singleton, along with Political Strategist Nate Benham; Karlton Thomas, Director of Entrepreneurship, Urban League; Rebekah Caruthers, and GOP Trumpers, Greg Stewart and Ralph Chittams.

Good Trouble - The John Lewis Legacy

For 63 years, John Robert Lewis has been a beacon of fire for African-Americans seeking justice and equality. Throughout his lifetime, he has tried to ensure that Black folk's civil rights, regardless of age, religion, income, or education, have been upheld. From the early age of 17yr, John Lewis has offered himself a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which was his reasonable service. John didn't understand why the water fountain, the bathroom, or the waiting areas, said Black or white. But what he did know was that it wasn't right. It wasn't just. And it wasn't equal. And to John, that meant it wasn't fair, and someone needed to do something about it. So, he decided to do just that, fight for fairness, fight for what was right, and fight for justice and equality. So, he marched. He sat in. He non-violently disrupted social norms by going in the front door and sitting at the lunch counters that prohibited Blacks from sitting. He brought attention to the injustices imposed upon Black people. And by doing so, he shed light on the civil rights violations city and state governments were committing against African-Americans.   Now as we discuss his legacy his service, his impact on America and what it means, joining me is Speaker, Author, CNN Commentator, USA Today, The Daily Beast, the Washington Post, and the NY Daily News Opinion Contributor, Sophia Nelson; along with former State Senator and former Candidate for Mayor, Senator Vincent Fort.

    Eye's Wide Shut

Americans across this nation are divided on every issue facing us, from whether BLM to Blue Lives Matter, to wearing a mask or not wearing a mask to sending our children to school in the middle of a pandemic for which we took them out of school in the first place. To the rule of law and the fight for our constitution. And the irony is this is from the Pocket Carrying GOP that have all of a sudden forgotten what their mantra was and what their party's foundation was centered around.  We’ve got a Test Tube Baby in the WH who is completely void of any decorum or compassion for the lives that he’s impacting on a daily basis. His only concern is himself I don’t even think he cares about his family except for his incestual relationship he has with Ivanka. And blinded American’s white and black, are following him over the cliff with their Eye’s Wide Shut! They don’t care that he’s violated the constitution. They don’t care that he’s obstructed justice. They don’t care that he’s accepted money from foreign governments. They don’t care that he’s co-opted the federal government as contractor for his personal benefit. THEY DON’T CARE! And to know that 60Million Americans can care less that this man, is robbing America blind, shows just how ignorant people are.  My guest Ms. Sophia Nelson, is the former advisor and counsel for the House Government Reform Committee under the Bush Administration. She’s an political independent, an attorney, best selling author, MSNBC Contributor and you can frequently find her articles, in Essence, The Root, Huffington Post, and other online platforms. And Dr. Wilmer, host of SiriusXM Inside the Issues w/Wilmer Leon.

George Floyd - Looting By Any Other Name!

Our panel discussion with Law Professor Sharon Kyle, editor of LA Progressive, Minneapolis Ward 4 City Councilmember Phillipe Cunningham, Dr. Wilmer Leon, III, host of "Inside the Issues w/Wilmer Leon" & NYPD Ret. Detective Marq Claxton discusses the George Floyd murder, and "Looting By Any Other Name"  Americans are gathering in major cities across America expressing their frustration anger & ultimate disgust for legalized murder by law enforcement. The continued police brutality that seems to frequently expose itself against Black & Brown people is more violent than any upon a suspected white offender. Reports of protests have targeted African-Americans as the destroyers of their community & purveyor of looting & arson. The news media have continued to label African-Americans looters & antagonists. Looting as define is exactly what our constitution, state & federal laws have been doing to Black Americans for over 200yrs. Looting: is goods usually of considerable value, something held to resemble goods of value, something appropriated illegally often by force or violence, to plunder, to seize & carry away by force, illicit gains by public officials. Law enforcement state & federal governments have been looting Black lives since we were brought here in 1619. Our value our goods (hard labor) has been plundered & seized for illicit gains by public officials. Last week our topic was Black Value, how apropos is it that show proceeded this one. My guest’s Law Professor Sharon Kyle, Minneapolis Ward 4 City Councilmember Phillipe Cunningham, and Dr. Wilmer Leon, III

Juneteenth: A End to Slavery, But Not Racism!

June 19, 1865, marked the day that African slaves received the notification that they had been freed by President Abraham Lincoln through the Emancipation Proclamation, which he had signed two years earlier. June 19th represented that day that all slaves under the Confederacy were now free. So, June 19th became the date that African-Americans began to celebrate as Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and now Black Independence Day) its our unofficial American holiday and an official Texas state holiday, celebrated annually on the 19th of June to commemorate Union army general Gordon Granger announcing federal orders in the city of Galveston, Texas, 1865, proclaiming that all slaves in Texas were now free. The furtherance of this acknowledgment and celebration has become more prominent with the recent killings and deaths of African-Americans by white police and white citizens. George Floyd has made Juneteenth, not just a holiday for Black Americans to celebrate, but has brought attention to it for America. As a result, more Americans are learning about the racists' execution and murder of more than 300 African-Americans in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the destruction of Black Wall Street, one of many economically affluent black communities in the country in 1921. that as a result of jealous, white racist citizens and police, was destroyed all across America. Today, African-Americans stand resolute to regain their social, economic, and political prowess and prominence in the face of the current day, racism, and Jim Crow policies, leftover from our ugly past. My guests Ward 1 Tulsa City Councilmember Vanessa Hall-Harper and Dr. Wilmer Leon, III, host of Inside the Issues w/Wilmer Leon.

    Black Wall Street I

The Social Contract: Equality NOT Revenge

    A Time to Sow

The bible says, there is a season and time for everything, every purpose under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. He hath made everything beautiful in his time: also, he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. It is time for Black America to plant, to sow into our destiny, to sow into our future, into our legacy. Our time to plant is now, while the soil is moist. It’s time to sow the seeds that will reap a harvest. After 400yrs it is more than time enough for us as a community, as a people to leave the plantation mentality on the plantation and begin to decide that INDEED, we have something to lose. Our family, our future, our lives. If you don’t believe me, ask Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Eric Garner, Shandra Bland, Breonna Taylor or George Floyd. But the problem is, you can’t ask them. Unfortunately, they didn’t realize that death was their reality.

    BLACK VALUE

Since 1619, African-Americans brought here as African slaves have been fighting for rights, equal rights, equity and their names to be cleared off the books of the constitution as 3/5 of a person, and property to be owned.  Upon the 1964 Civil Rights laws being passed at the end of the Jim Crow era, Black folks have continued to establish themselves as valuable components of the development of these United States of America. In some cases, it appears that African-Americans have become too valuable, at least in the eyes of racist GOP revisionists like Ted Cruz who stated that this nation wasn't founded on the backs of slaves. While others, especially those in law enforcement seem to only value black lives when they are dead or in jail. And under our current pandemic, those lives in overcrowded prisons and jails are valued even less; while a treasonous ally of Donald Trump is released from prison to serve out the rest of a 7yr sentence in the comfort of his own home.   In the last 30 days a number of high profile killing of African-Americans have occurred at the hands of law enforcement as well as, the general public. Ahmaud Arbery was viciously killed by the son of a former police officer. An EMT was shot and killed by police after breaking into the wrong home to serve a warrant.  Not to mention Sean Reed who was shot and killed by police while live streaming it all on Facebook.

    COVID DETENTION

Across the country from New York's, Rikers Island to Ohio's Marion Correctional Institution, along with other correctional detention centers and prisons across the country, the COVID virus is highlighting the enormous impact this virus can have that far outweigh the common flu. Correctional Detention Centers are rapidly becoming the new hot spots and breeding grounds for the coronavirus. With more than 2k inmates infected at the Marion facility, many jurisdictions are making determinations about their prison population and how to effectively manage the public’s safety with the need to be responsible during this Public Health Crisis. The question of who should be released early to minimize the infection rate to the sanitation of the facility to maintaining social distancing. Many of these decisions fall on the elected constable responsible for the detention centers, jails, and prisons. Wardens, judges, district attorneys, and sheriffs. Sheriffs, like my friend and recipient of the 2019 BPT Trailblazers Award, and first term, first African-American Sheriff in Durham County’s 140 history, I’m proud to be able to call him friend, and that’s Sheriff Clarence Birkhead.
