Our Family Tree | The Story of Josiah
Teaching Minister, Damien Spikereit | Sunday, November 2nd, 2025The Story of Josiah | 2 Chronicles 34-35, 2 Chronicles 36A messy story of unkept promises, redeemed by a God who keeps his promises. The boy-king Josiah brought about a revival in the land, honoring the promises made long ago –keeping the Sabbath, renovating the Temple, removing idols, and obeying the Law. However, the final four kings of Israel were unwilling to remain faithful, bringing about the end of David’s throne. For hundreds of years, the people waited for God to fulfill his promise, and he did so in ways they could never have imagined possible. | Visit us at: https://live.cartervillechristian.com

Our Family Tree | The Story of David & Solomon
Senior Minister Austin Weece | Sunday, October 26thThe Story of David and Solomon | 2 Samuel 11-12:25, I Kings 1-2 A messy story of hostility, redeemed by a peaceful God | David’s reign was marked by war and hostility. Not only was the warrior king battling against the enemies of Israel, but he also warred against the Lord. Both resulted in death and sadness. For this reason, David was not chosen to build the house of the Lord, but his son, Solomon, was chosen. As his name indicates, Solomon anticipates the coming of the Prince of Peace.

Our Family Tree | The Story of David
Senior Minister, Austin Weece | October 19th, 2025 - I Samuel 16:1-13, A messy story of how God values the heart over the outward appearance | When God was ready to choose the next king of Israel, he sent his servant to the home of Jesse in Bethlehem. To Jesse’s great surprise, the one chosen was the qatan, the least of his sons, who was left out in the fields. David was chosen because he was a man after God’s own heart (I Samuel 13:14). And to David would come the promise of an eternal kingdom, which is fulfilled in Jesus.

Our Family Tree | The Story of Ruth
Guest Speaker, James Bond | Ozark Christian College | October 12th, 2025A messy story of those who are far from God, being brought near to God. God honors the loyalty and faithfulness of Ruth, a Moabite woman, by welcoming her into the home of Boaz of Bethlehem. As a result, Ruth becomes the great-grandmother of King David, placing her in the lineage of Jesus. Just as the Israelites were to be a light to the nations, so the heart of God is that the church will welcome those who are far from God to be brought near to God.

Our Family Tree | The Story of Rahab
Senior Minister, Austin Weece | October 5th, 2025Numbers 13:26-33, Joshua 2, 6:22-25A messy story of fear (the spies), redeemed by surprising courage (Rahab). Good stories have a foil—a character who stands in contrast to the protagonist. The courage of Rahab, the unlikely hero of the story, stands in contrast to the initial fear of the spies. On the other side of the story is a renewed courage to step into obedience. And, in the end, she is honored as a mother of Jesus.

Our Family Tree | The Story of Abraham
Senior Minister, Austin Weece | September 21st, 2025Genesis 16-17A messy story of impatience, redeemed by a merciful God. Abraham made a habit of jumping in line instead of waiting on the Lord. However, God repeatedly did not give Abraham what he deserved, and instead mercifully allowed his plan to be carried out in Abraham and his descendants.

Our Family Tree | Series Introduction
Teaching Minister, Damien Spikereit | September 14th, 2025Matthew 1:1-17, Genesis 12:1-3, 2 Samuel 7:11b-17A messy story, redeemed by God’s unconditional faithfulness. Understanding the story of the OT requires an understanding of “covenant (berit).” The basis of God’s relationship with Israel, the descendants of Abraham, was conditioned upon the obedience of the people (“if…, then…”). However, God established unconditional covenant promises along the way that find their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus.
