Lessons on Devotion from Ruth | Message
The Old Testament is rich with stories that are far more than ancient history. Within its pages we encounter real people who lived through real struggles, faced difficult choices, and experienced the powerful hand of God at work in their lives. Some were leaders, some were unlikely heroes, and many were simply ordinary people whom God chose to use in extraordinary ways. Their stories reveal timeless truths about faith, obedience, leadership, repentance, and trust in the Lord.In this series, we will explore the lives of these Old Testament men and women, and discover that the same God who worked in their lives is still at work today in ours. Their victories and failures remind us that God shapes His people through challenges, calling them to trust Him, follow Him, and remain faithful in every season. By learning from their examples, we gain valuable lessons that help us walk with God more faithfully in our own lives.

The Empty Tomb
In Luke’s Gospel, there is a turning point where everything begins to move in one clear direction—Jerusalem. Luke 13:22 tells us that Jesus was “journeying toward Jerusalem,” and from that moment on, every teaching, every miracle, every conversation happens in the shadow of the cross. Jesus knows where He is going. He knows what awaits Him there. And yet, as He walks the road toward suffering, rejection, and death, He does not withdraw from people—He leans into them. He sends workers into the harvest, teaches His disciples how to pray, warns about the narrow way that leads to life, welcomes children others tried to push aside, and receives praise as King even when the crowd doesn’t fully understand the kind of King He is. This series traces Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem, not just as a physical path, but as a purposeful mission—showing us that the road to the cross was marked by compassion, invitation, urgency, and hope. As we walk with Jesus, we will see that following Him means embracing both the destination He died to accomplish and the ministry He calls us to live out along the way.

Life's Most Important Question!
compassion, and His kingdom-shaping mission. In chapters 3 through 9, Luke shows us not only what Jesus did, but what those works reveal about who He truly is. These chapters form a powerful section of Scripture where Jesus transforms hearts, confronts darkness, heals the broken, and calls ordinary people into extraordinary discipleship. Here we see the Father’s affirmation of His Son, the launch of His public ministry, the demonstrations of His divine power, and the unfolding of His kingdom message. In this 8-week sermon series, we will focus on “The Amazing Works of Christ” and explore how each of these moments not only shaped the first disciples but continues to shape the life of every follower today. As we walk through these chapters together, we will discover that the same Jesus who moved with authority and compassion then still moves with that same power and grace in our lives now.

Walking in the Light!
At Christmas, we celebrate more than the birth of a child—we celebrate the coming of the Savior who is both the Light and the Lamb. Jesus, the Light of the world, entered our darkness to reveal God’s truth, hope, and glory. But He also came as the Lamb of God, humbly laying down His life to redeem a lost and broken people. In this season, we are reminded that the manger points toward the cross, and the call to Behold the Savior of the world!. In this series titled Behold, we are invited to see Christmas, not just as a moment in history, but as God’s ongoing mission to bring light to our darkness!

The Passover Tree
“When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” — Exodus 12:13 (LSB)In the land of Egypt, God’s people lived as slaves—but a night of deliverance was promised. Each home marked its doorway with the blood of a spotless lamb—a sign of faith and obedience. That night, death passed over, and freedom began. This tree remembers the lamb, the door, and the God who delivers. The scarlet ribbon tells of salvation through sacrifice, and every lamb whispers of a greater Lamb to come—the One whose blood would free not just a nation, but all mankind.“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” — John 1:29

The Kings Tree
“Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” — 2 Samuel 7:16 (LSB)In the days of Israel’s kings, God’s people looked for a ruler who would lead with justice and righteousness. They celebrated victories and endured failures under men like Saul, David, and Solomon—each one flawed, each one longing for the true King.Through triumph and tragedy, God was writing a greater story: a promise of an eternal King who would reign not from a palace of gold but from a cross of grace. This tree remembers the crowns that tarnished and the throne that never will.It points to Jesus—the Son of David, the Lion of Judah, the King of Kings—whose reign is eternal and whose kingdom will never end.“The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David… and His kingdom will have no end.” — Luke 1:32–33 (LSB)
-

The Prophet's Tree
“The Lord God does nothing unless He reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophets.” — Amos 3:7 (LSB)From the desert to the throne room, the prophets cried out, “Thus says the Lord.”They called a wandering people back to covenant faithfulness, warned of judgment, and promised hope. They saw shadows of a coming King, a virgin’s child, a suffering servant, a Prince of Peace. This tree marks the moment between revelation and realization when the world waited, longing for the Word made flesh.“Behold, the virgin will be with child and will bear a Son, and she will call His name Immanuel.” — Isaiah 7:14 (LSB)
-

Matthew's Begats Tree
“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” — Matthew 1:1 (LSB)This tree declares that Jesus did not appear out of nowhere. Every name in His family line whispers promise fulfilled. From Abraham to David, from exile to Emmanuel, each branch of the story leads to the root of redemption — Christ Himself. This tree remembers the faith of Abraham, the throne of David, and the grace that runs through generations of broken people whom God still chose to use.Through kings and carpenters, sinners and saints, God’s covenant thread never broke. And at last, in Bethlehem, the lineage of hope took on flesh.“When the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman.” — Galatians 4:4
-

The Mary & Joseph Tree
“And Mary said, ‘Behold, the slave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.’” — Luke 1:38 (LSB)This tree celebrates the quiet courage of obedience — the faith that says yes when nothing makes sense.Mary and Joseph step into God’s plan not with status or power, but with trust and humility.Their obedience opened the door through which the Savior entered the world. This tree remembers the “yes” that changed everything — the surrender of two ordinary people whose faith made way for extraordinary grace. Here, faith takes form not in grand gestures, but in humble obedience. This is the tree of surrender, trust, and the beauty of saying, “Let it be.”“When Joseph awoke from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him.” — Matthew 1:24 (LSB)
-

The Manger Tree
“And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” — Luke 2:7 (LSB)In the quiet of Bethlehem, the King of Kings entered the world in the humblest of ways.No palace. No throne. No trumpet blast.Just a manger — rough wood, coarse hay, and the smell of animals. This tree remembers the moment when heaven came to earth, when divinity wrapped itself in simplicity, and the infinite became an infant. Here, the glory of God is revealed not in grandeur but in grace. The Manger Tree whispers the truth of the incarnation —that God’s way of saving the world is upside down, and His greatest work began in a place no one expected.

The Shepherd’s Worship Tree
“And the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’” — Luke 2:10–11 (LSB)In the fields outside Bethlehem, it wasn’t kings or priests who first heard heaven’s song — it was shepherds.Ordinary, overlooked, unclean men watching their flocks under a silent sky became the first witnesses of glory.Their night turned to light, their fear to faith, their labor to worship. This tree calls us to see ourselves in their story — invited, unworthy, yet chosen to behold and proclaim the Savior. The Shepherd’s Worship Tree celebrates that God’s good news comes first to the humble — and that worship is the only fitting response.
-

Behold the Lamb of God Tree
“Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” — John 1:29 (LSB)This final tree brings the story full circle — from the lamb whose blood marked the doors in Egypt to the Lamb whose blood redeems all mankind.Jesus is not just the baby in the manger — He is the Lamb who was slain. Every promise, every prophecy, every act of deliverance pointed to Him. The Passover lamb, the bronze serpent, the altar sacrifices — all were shadows of this moment when the Lamb of God would take away the sin of the world. This tree calls every visitor to behold not only His birth but His purpose — the cross, the resurrection, and the redemption of His people.

The Lamb Promised!
