Reset, Reconnect, and Refocus: A Jefa's Journey
Tell us what you think about the episode!!Sometimes the ground beneath us shifts so dramatically that we need to completely reset our rhythms and refocus our priorities. After navigating personal loss, two home moves, and the ongoing challenges of entrepreneurship, I'm back to reconnect with my Jefa community via the podcast and share what this season of reset looks like. The past year has taught me the profound truth behind our community's mission: alleviating the loneliness of entrepreneurship truly happens "one cafecito at a time." When I found myself with nowhere to live and uncertain about the future, it was fellow Jefas who stepped up, offering solutions that kept my family and business rooted in Southern California. This experience reinforced something I've learned deeply since I began this pursuit of CCJ - we aren't meant to build businesses in isolation. Our community has grown in beautiful ways during this time of personal challenge. The CCJ Casita now hosts over 35 virtual events monthly, from hyper-focus sessions where we work alongside each other to specialized programs led by community leaders. We're expanding our reach through a new partnership with the AmigaHood platform, launching bi-weekly Cafecito and Co-working sessions beginning August 5th.For those seeking more personalized support, I continue to serve Jefas through one-on-one strategy "sprints," where we clarify goals and create actionable marketing plans aligned with your capacity. Our #JefaLife101 cohort program provides foundational business skills in a group setting, while my brand photography services create intentional images that translate to profit. At the heart of everything is a common thread.. creating space where Jefas can practice saying their names in rooms of opportunity, define their offerings with clarity, and implement time management strategies that honor all dimensions of their lives. As we approach our third anniversary, I'm reminded that community doesn't just save businesses; it saves us.If you're feeling disconnected or overwhelmed on your entrepreneurial journey, remember: no estas sola. There's always a seat at this table for you.Support the show☕️ Visit the Cafecito Con Jefas Website☕️ Join the Cafecito Con Jefas Community☕️ Support the show

The Moment I Almost Quit And What I Chose Instead
Tell us what you think about the episode!!Entrepreneurship wasn't meant to be a lonely road, yet so many of us find ourselves isolated in our journey. My breaking point came when my life shattered my father-in-law and husband simultaneously hospitalized, me alone during COVID restrictions, our business hanging by a thread, and not a soul to help carry the weight. Most entrepreneurs know this feeling. We're taught to push through pain silently, to hustle through grief and call it strength, to choose ambition over healing. But what if there's another way? From my darkest moment curled under a desk questioning everything, Cafecito Con Jefas was born not as a business venture, but as the lifeline I desperately needed. It began with simple virtual coffee dates, one jefa at a time. Sometimes just me and one other woman on a Zoom call, sharing dreams and fears that felt too vulnerable for anywhere else. Those early conversations grew into a movement with a mission: to alleviate the profound loneliness of entrepreneurship. Today, our community provides not just connection but strategy, teaching jefas to grow their brands without burning out, to build businesses aligned with their current season rather than external pressures. The CCJ Casita and Jefa Life 101 cohort now offer structured spaces where female entrepreneurs can gain clarity, confidence and community simultaneously. Because clarity doesn't come from perfect planning it emerges from taking imperfect action with support around you.If you've been craving both strategic growth and genuine connection, you have a seat waiting at our table. You don't have to build your dream alone anymore. Show up, take that imperfect action, and let's grow together.Support the show☕️ Visit the Cafecito Con Jefas Website☕️ Join the Cafecito Con Jefas Community☕️ Support the show

Confidence Isn't Missing, It's Waiting for the Right Room
Tell us what you think about the episode!!Dreams built on sacrifice carry a different weight. As first-generation Latina entrepreneurs, we're not just building businesses—we're honoring legacies, navigating without blueprints, and balancing cultural tensions that few business courses acknowledge.Behind every brand launch and Instagram caption lies an untold story: the pressure of being the first, the weight of family expectations, and the challenge of finding your voice when you were raised to stay humble and work quietly. We know how to work—that's embedded in our DNA—but confidence feels elusive when you've never had spaces to practice being seen or heard. This entrepreneurial journey isn't just about strategy; it's about creating room for your brilliance to breathe. The clarity you seek doesn't come from isolation or another perfect PDF. It emerges when you find community, when someone nods and confirms the power in your voice, when you're surrounded by mirrors who reflect your potential back to you. Your brand doesn't need to be louder; it needs to be clearer. Your confidence was never missing—it's been waiting for the right room to develop in.If you've been carrying the weight of building alone, know there's a space for you to grow powerfully, not perfectly. Because we weren't just raised to survive; we were born to lead. Keep going, jefa. Find the communities that see you, join spaces where your unique journey is understood, and watch your voice strengthen with every conversation.Support the show☕️ Visit the Cafecito Con Jefas Website☕️ Join the Cafecito Con Jefas Community☕️ Support the show

Meet Jefa: Lucy Ortega - By Lucy Ortega
Tell us what you think about the episode!!Meet Jefa: Lucy OrtegaI am a first-generation Latina + serial entrepreneur. I run my food businesses – Sierra Mexican Cuisine - and coach other first-generation individuals who have dreams of monetizing their gifts.I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, where I experienced both emotional and financial instability. I was instilled with the belief that education would be my ticket “out of poverty", so I dove deep into my studies in search of that “golden ticket.”I attended Wellesley College, just outside Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating, I embarked on a five-year journey as a secondary science teacher in South LA. While teaching, I accidentally began to pursue entrepreneurship. My grandfather’s health suddenly deteriorated, and I witnessed the emotional toll it took on my father, who was unprepared financially to deal with the situation. Seeing my father struggle with both the emotional and financial burden made me realize that I didn’t want to go through the same challenges. So I began building my first business that has evolved into multiple businesses. There has been a lot of trial and error as the first in my family to build and scale a business. Despite, my mom being the queen of side hustles, she didn’t understand the importance of leveraging social media or how to navigate the paperwork behind “legitimizing” a business.I also struggled with the decision of leaving my stable teaching career to pursue my food business full-time. I knew that my mission as an entrepreneur was greater. I grew up in McAllen, Texas, a small border town surrounded by strong, independent women. As a child, I was fortunate enough to experience my culture firsthand by spending weekends and summers in Mexico. Walking through the mercado aisles, taking in the artistry and rich smells of Mexican culture, was a unique experience. My abuela Juanita, left her beloved country to provide her children with a better life. She was a true guerrera. My grandmother worked in the fields, picking anything from oranges to pumpkins, all while raising six children. She was a boss in her own right, and she passed that hard-working spirit on to my mother. My mother has been working since she was 14 years old, and when she became a single mother at a young age, she did not let that deter her from providing me with a bright future. Witnessing the strength of these Latina women inspired me to create Madre Mia, a brand that honors and glorifies the Mujeres that came before us. We are committed to bringing high-quality products made from clean, natural plants and herbs that come directly from Madre Earth.
