    7. Taking Action On PFAS

Have you been hearing about PFAs and are concerned or maybe you are not sure what the hype is all about? Then this is the episode for you… Forever Chemicals Called PFAS Show Up in Your Food, Clothes, and Home These toxic chemicals are so common in consumer products and manufacturing that they’re everywhere—including inside our bodies. First synthesized in the 30’s by Dupont. This substance called Teflon created a non-stick substance that would not dissolve and could make other materials more durable and long lasting. Despite red flags being waved in 1960, it wasn’t until the 1990’s when PFAS were being regularly detected in the environment and luckily now there is action being taken to rid the earth of PFAs forever. Call the office of your Senator or Representatives. You don’t have to be an expert! When leaving a message, or speaking to their Staffers, simply say: “Hi, my name is X and I live in X (if relevant, share that you are a constituent). It is widely accepted that the personal care and cosmetics industry is currently under regulated. As a result, harmful and questionable ingredients are still allowed to be used in beauty products. This harms consumers, who deserve to know what is in the products they use, and to have safer personal products that are free of toxic chemicals. This is why we need Congress to pass bills that ban the use of harmful chemicals in the products that my family and I use every day. I urge you (if you’re speaking directly to the elected representative, if not, then say: “your boss”) to co-sponsor the Safer Beauty Bill Package. This package calls for the disclosure of fragrance and flavor ingredients, a ban on 11 toxic ingredients, and more. Thank you for hearing my concerns.” Episode Credits: Production, Editing and Mixing : Evan Marlowe Coast to the Heart is a proud podcasting member of the Northern Roots Media Podcast Network.
