Episode 4: Finding Inner Safety - Part 4 - Choosing to stay
Episode 4: Finding Inner Safety – Part 4 – Choosing to Stay Why is it so hard to switch off at night even when we’re completely worn out? In this episode, I explore the link between overthinking, sleeplessness and a deeper kind of disconnection… from the body, from emotions, from safety. I share the story of a retreat that helped me understand how easily we leave ourselves and what it means to choose to stay. If your mind races at night or you find it hard to rest, this one's for you.

Episode 3: Finding Inner Safety - Part 3 - Rest, Sensitivity & the Nervous System - Sleeping while travelling
Episode 3: Finding Inner Safety - Part 3 - Rest, Sensitivity & the Nervous System - Sleeping while travelling I recorded this episode from my hotel room in Croatia, mid-way through a much-needed summer break... and yes, I’m choosing to work on holiday because I’ve felt a creative surge I just couldn’t ignore. In this episode, I explore why so many of us struggle to sleep well when we’re away from home, even in the most beautiful surroundings. I talk about the difference between ‘Martini sleepers’ and sensitive sleepers, the importance of inner safety, and how our nervous system responds to new environments. I’ll also share some practical tools and rituals I use when I travel... that help me sleep deeply, feel grounded, and wake up truly rested. If you’ve ever struggled to sleep in a hotel bed, this one’s for you.

Episode 2: Finding Inner Safety - Part 2 - My Story, Four Levels of Inner Safety, and the Ultimate Inner Safety Tool
Have you ever noticed how hard it can be to rest when life feels noisy... both outside and within? In this episode, recorded during a deeply personal and challenging week in my childhood home in Guyana, I open up about my own journey through the four levels of inner safety. From feeling regulated and calm to being thrown into old patterns of trauma, disconnection, and survival, I share how I found my way back, one breath at a time. This isn’t just about sleep or even about wellbeing. It’s about being able to sit with discomfort. To soften into stillness, even when the world feels unkind or chaotic. I speak honestly about my family history, ancestral trauma, and the messiness of healing… and I invite you to reflect on your own relationship with inner safety. If you’ve ever felt like you were “doing all the right things” but still not feeling okay then this episode is for you.

Episode 1: Finding Inner Safety - Part 1
Why did I choose to start this podcast with the topic of safety? After decades of helping people sleep, I’ve learned one thing again and again … we sleep when we feel safe. In this very first episode of Fast Asleep, Wide Awake, I share the story of how that truth first came to me, standing in front of 500 lawyers, saying something I hadn’t planned, and watching it land in the most remarkable way. That moment changed the course of my work. This episode is an invitation … into the idea that safety isn’t just a psychological concept or a corporate initiative. It’s a deeply physiological experience that begins within. I talk about what it means to feel safe at a cellular level, why the world wasn’t ready for my book on safety until the pandemic, and how my little rescue dog Mira became my teacher in embodying calm and stability. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just tired to your bones … come listen. Let this be a gentle beginning. A reminder that inner safety is not only possible, it’s where everything good begins.
