Resolving trauma with Dr Joanna North
In this episode we are joined by Dr Joanna North to discuss all things trauma. Trauma significantly impacts many people's lives and behaviours. Particularly interesting to explore for people experiencing mental or physical health conditions, as trauma can often be a root cause of this. Jo is a psychotherapist and psychologist specialising in child mental health. She has her own adoption agency, has written inspiring books and continues to share and help others along their healing journey. Acceptance on the chronic illness journey
Acceptance is key in healing from chronic illness. When we can accept the present moment rather than resisting it we save so much energy for the things that really need our energy. Accepting our current experience = opportunity to change = opportunity to explore options = opportunity to heal. It is not about giving in or accepting illness for life. It is about accepting the present moment and what is happening right now which changes hour by hour and day by day. This is so powerful because when we accept what is happening, we allow ourselves to move through it rather than staying stuck in it.
