St. Hildegard's Daily Health Secrets: 6 Simple Ways to Fortify Body, Mind, and Soul with Maria Iwinska

In this rich and deeply practical conversation, Angela welcomes back Maria Iwinska of Hildegard's Way to explore the timeless wisdom of St. Hildegard of Bingen and the daily lifestyle she believed restores harmony in the human person. Maria explains why St. Hildegard must be understood not only as a mystic, but as a Benedictine shaped by order, rhythm, and sacred balance. From that foundation, she highlights six core daily pillars of Hildegardian nutrition and healing: spelt, galangal, bertram, diptam, fennel, and chestnuts. Together, Angela and Maria discuss why not all spelt is created equal, how to identify authentic ancient spelt, and how these foundational foods and remedies can support energy, digestion, immune resilience, mental clarity, and overall vitality. They also reflect on a theme central to both Hildegard's wisdom and integrated healing: the body is always speaking. Symptoms are not merely inconveniences to suppress, but invitations to deeper awareness, greater harmony, and more faithful stewardship of the life God has given us. This episode is a beautiful invitation to slow down, pay attention, and begin asking a life-changing question: Is what I am consuming fortifying me—or depleting me?   In this episode, Angela and Maria discuss: why St. Hildegard's Benedictine roots matter for understanding her lifestyle teachings the connection between order, harmony, and health Hildegard's six foundational daily nutrition pillars why authentic ancient spelt is different from modern hybridized grains how to source true spelt and the questions to ask your farmer or supplier the role of digestion in whole-person health the connection between gut health, mood, and mental clarity galangal as "the spice of life" bertram for cleansing, digestion, and overall vitality diptam for circulation, cholesterol support, and internal cleansing fennel as a daily anti-inflammatory support and gentle source of energy chestnuts as a source of steady energy and support for attention and liver health why icy foods and drinks can weaken the body over time the importance of gentle consistency over perfection the relationship between physical health, emotional health, and spiritual harmony how symptoms can point to deeper imbalance rather than simply needing to be covered over   Practical takeaways: begin reading labels and asking better sourcing questions look for authentic, ancient spelt varieties rather than assuming all spelt is the same consider incorporating spelt slowly and consistently into daily meals explore simple Hildegardian supports like fennel, galangal, and chestnuts reduce reliance on stimulants and begin replacing depletion habits with fortifying ones pay attention to recurring symptoms as signals, not just annoyances start small—one degree shifts practiced daily can become a lifestyle   Resources Mentioned: Hildegard's Way→ Website: HildegardsWay.com Follow Hildegard's Way on social media for recipes, teachings, and practical ways to incorporate St. Hildegard's wisdom into daily life  At the time of this podcast release many products are currently sold out at Hildegard's Way. In today's conversation, we welcome Maria Iwinska, a Hildegardian practitioner who brings together over a decade of experience in the corporate and consulting world with a deeply personal journey of healing and restoration of body, mind, and soul. Maria's work is rooted in the writings of St. Hildegard of Bingen, who understood nutrition, virtue, music, beauty, emotional healing, and the sacraments not as separate disciplines—but as one unified path toward wholeness. She has cultivated a living community—one that goes far beyond spelt and spices—to help modern individuals rediscover ancient wisdom in deeply practical ways. In this episode, Maria shares how seasons of crisis—whether illness, menopause, autoimmune challenges, major life transitions, or spiritual dryness—can become invitations to integration and healing, rather than obstacles to holiness. Healing Frequencies, New Age or Rooted in the Church? with Maria Spears Mumaugh

In this episode Angela and Maria unpack the healing power of music and the importance of Praise as foundational to the integrated life God intended for us. In fact, the healing power of music is one of St. Hildegard's seven strategies for Optimal Health. In this conversation, we'll explore how music for St. Hildegard acts as a moral force, guiding the soul back toward harmony with God's Will.   "A Musical performance softens hard hearts, leads in the humor of reconciliation, and summons the Holy Spirit."  ~ St. Hildegard of Bingen   Key Takeaways:   The Enemy cannot sing because He has no JOY.  Never stop singing!! Freedom, Family & Fullness with Dr. John Bergsma

In this enlightening conversation, Angela welcomes Dr. John Bergsma, Vice President of Biblical Theology of Mission at the Saint Paul Center, to not only discuss the significance of the Jubilee year, but also explore themes of hope, freedom, and the transformative power of God's love. Dr. Bergsma shares his personal journey from a Calvinist background to embracing the Catholic faith, emphasizing the importance of understanding sacred times and the role of repentance and reconciliation in experiencing true liberation. They also highlight the concept of interior royalty, encourage you to embrace your identity as beloved children of God, and share practical ways to live out of hope in everyday life.   Key Takeaways:  Dr. Bergsma emphasizes the importance of the Jubilee year as a time of hope and grace. The concept of sacred time is foundational to understanding the Jubilee. God's vision for humanity includes freedom, family, and fullness. Interior royalty is a key aspect of our identity as children of God. Suffering can be transformed into a sacrifice that brings us closer to God. Repentance and reconciliation are central to experiencing the Jubilee. The Lord's Prayer embodies the spirit of the Jubilee through forgiveness. Many Catholics struggle with a distorted image of God as punitive rather than loving. The Sacraments, indulgences, and pilgrimages are three ways we can live out hope in our lives.   Resources Mentioned: Jesus and the Jubilee: The Biblical Roots of the Year of God's Favor" by Dr. John Bergsma Download the free Jubilee Companion Guide IG Handles: @stpaulcenter @emmausroadpublishing and @john.s.bergsma Chapters: 00:00 Introduction to Dr. John Bergsma 01:39 Dr. Bergsma's Journey to Jubilee 08:22 Understanding the Jubilee Year 13:28 God's Vision for His Children 17:09 The Concept of Interior Royalty 23:58 The Power of Repentance and Reconciliation 30:34 Healing Through Confession 35:02 Understanding God's Goodness 36:09 The Spirituality of St. Josemaria Escriva 37:58 Understanding Divine Affiliation and Childhood in God 39:25 The Cross: Love vs. Wrath 42:01 Living Through the Holy Spirit 45:37 Royalty and Dignity in Our Faith 50:46 Embracing the Blessed Mother 53:37 The Jubilee Year: A Call to Freedom 59:28 Practical Steps for Living the Jubilee Year 01:05:38 Pilgrimage: A Journey of Faith   #JubileeYear #SpiritualRenewal #Freedom #CatholicFaith   Reclaim the vibrant life you were created for! She is a founder, creator, and Director of Stone to Flesh Community and its flagship programs, School of the Heart and FLOW Mentoring and Networking Platform as well as Whole Person Healing - Hildegard initiative. She has been a missionary in Russia, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and USA since 1991 and came back to the Catholic Church in 2010. Invited by Bishop David G. O'Connell, her family moved to the Los Angeles area for the purpose of evangelization and lay leaders training. Her family started ministry there in 2017. In March 2023 she passed an exam in St. Hildegard's von Bingen Studium Academic Theological Course. The Theology of Organization with Andy Hickman

In this enlightening conversation, Angela Schnieders and Andy Hickman explore the profound themes of integrated wholeness, spirituality, and personal development. They delve into the hēl method, which emphasizes the three pillars of being oneself, being organized, and be God.    As the Founder of the hēl method Andy proposes, "the answer to your overwhelm & burnout isn't found in productivity – it's found in anthropology – in rediscovering and reintegrating what it means to be a human. This is, at once, an earthy and divine process that is as natural, simple, and fun as a sail catching wind."   The discussion highlights the importance of creativity, self-knowledge, and the interconnectedness of practical and spiritual life. Through practical steps and insights, they encourage listeners to embrace their unique identities and cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves in relation to God and others. Those that have embarked on the hēl journey have experienced renewed Space to Play, Space to Rest and Space to Explore!   Key Takeaways:  Integration is about recognizing the wholeness of our being, not just bringing separate parts together. Organization is a dynamic process, not a static state. Mindset is the story we tell ourselves, which shapes our reality.   Resources Mentioned: Please email your written questions and thoughts to Andy Hickman ([email protected]) Read his essay, the "Be" Spiral To begin learning the hēl method, Andy has written a series of letters designed to introduce you to its practical elements…go to www.hel.co and click on the purple button that says "hel your creativity".
