The Fractures That Made Me: Amber Jackson on Trauma, Silence, and Finding Whole

⚠️ LISTENER DISCLAIMER: This episode touches on sensitive topics including childhood trauma, abuse, and domestic violence. If children are nearby, please listen privately.   Episode Summary In this deeply moving episode of the Junk to Jewels Podcast, host Georgette Beck sits down with Amber Jackson — Fort Pierce native, author, and survivor — for a raw and redemptive conversation about what it means to carry pain quietly and finally let it speak.   Amber is the author of The Fracture Years: Surviving Trauma, Losing Everything, and Discovering the Woman I Was Meant to Be — a memoir that takes readers straight into the silent fractures of a childhood marked by abuse, instability, and unmet needs for love and protection. Through honest, poetic storytelling, Amber invites us into moments most people never speak aloud, offering hope to every reader who has ever felt invisible, unworthy, or alone.   Amber and Georgette explore the long shadow of childhood silence — what it means when the adults who should protect you do not — and how growing up feeling "unseen" can follow a person into adulthood, relationships, and the search for validation. Amber shares how her healing has unfolded slowly and imperfectly, and how her husband Justin became not just a life partner but her greatest hero.   This is a conversation about fractures. About the stories we carry for years before we finally write them down. And about the truth that your trauma does not define you — it gives you strength to persevere. What You'll Hear in This Episode Growing up on a small farm in Fort Pierce, FL — and the childhood wounds hidden behind barefoot summers The earliest signs of trauma that went unnoticed and unnamed What it felt like to finally speak up — and be met with silence Living with unspoken shame and how it shaped her self-worth as a teenager The domestic dynamics she witnessed at home and their lifelong impact Her dyslexia diagnosis — and how it went unshared for years How she found validation in small acts of service — and the moment she realized she was doing it out of fear Her hero: husband Justin and the love that taught her she deserved to be loved What she would say to every young girl who feels invisible: "I see you" Her upcoming memoir, Ashes and Rainbows, and her June publication goal Her role as Managing Director at Go Getter Girls — empowering women professionally Amber's Closing Wisdom "Your trauma does not define you but gives you strength to persevere." ~ Amber Jackson   "Never give up hope. You deserve to be wanted. You deserve to be loved. I see you. Our trauma will not define who we are. Healing is allowed, but we will need to learn to accept love and hope when the time comes." About Amber Jackson Amber Jackson is the author of The Fracture Years and a Fort Pierce, Florida native. She serves as Executive Assistant and Director of Marketing at Owen Insurance Group and as Managing Director at Go Getter Girls. She is currently completing her second memoir, Ashes and Rainbows, which continues her journey through grief, faith, and healing. Why I Survived: Jennifer Lee on Armed Robbery, Abduction, and the Healing Power of Sharing Your Story

What if the very act of sharing your story could be the thing that saves you — and someone else? In this powerful episode of the Junk to Jewels Podcast, Georgette Beck sits down with Jennifer Lee — author, podcast host, and survivor — for a deeply moving conversation about resilience, faith, and the transformative power of telling your truth. Jennifer grew up in a small town in northern Michigan, a middle child with a perfectionist streak and an entrepreneurial spirit that launched her into retail management by age 17. Her life took unexpected turns — marriage, motherhood (she is a proud Marine mom and new grandmother!), divorce, and a career that built her into a natural leader. But nothing could have prepared her for April 28, 2012. On an early Saturday morning at the women's clothing store where she worked, Jennifer and her colleagues became victims of an armed robbery and abduction. With calm, courageous presence of mind, she called 911 and helped an elderly woman through a medical emergency — all while the situation unfolded around her. Law enforcement arrived and the ordeal ended, but Jennifer's healing journey was just beginning. She also opens up about surviving dating abuse — a story she kept hidden for years until the courage of her own podcast guests inspired her to finally speak her truth. Two years after launching the I Need Blue podcast, Jennifer published her memoir, Why I Survived, and has since become a keynote speaker and advocate for first responders, survivors of domestic violence, and anyone navigating life after trauma. In This Episode You'll Hear: Jennifer's small-town Michigan upbringing and how ambition took her from Kmart cashier to store manager at 17 The harrowing details of the 2012 armed robbery and abduction — and Jennifer's extraordinary calm under pressure How dispatchers and first responders changed her life and deepened her passion for honoring those who serve Her experience with dating abuse and why it took years (and other survivors' stories) before she felt ready to share it How the I Need Blue podcast became a full circle of healing — covering trauma survivors, first responders, military, and nonprofits Her memoir Why I Survived and the four interwoven stories of love, danger, betrayal, and spiritual courage A beautiful exchange about the shared heart behind both podcasts — and the divine appointments that connect them Her favorite book (The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn!), who she'd have coffee with (Oprah!), and wisdom for those stepping into something new and uncomfortable This episode is for you if: You or someone you love has survived trauma, abuse, or violence You want to understand how sharing your story can be the beginning of healing — not just for you, but for others You have a heart for first responders, law enforcement, military, and dispatchers You've been sitting on a story, a calling, or a book — waiting for permission to begin You believe that nothing in life is accidental and that God uses every season Connect with Jennifer Lee Website:  https://ineedblue.net/ Book (Why I Survived):  https://whyisurvived.com/ The Healing In Sharing:  https://thehealinginsharing.com/ Instagram (I Need Blue):  https://www.instagram.com/ineedbluepodcast/ YouTube (I Need Blue):  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp1q8SfA_hEXRJ4EaizlW8Q YouTube (The Healing In Sharing):  https://www.youtube.com/@TheHealingInSharing11 Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567221068683 Apple Podcasts (I Need Blue):  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i-need-blue/id1567450935 About Your Host — Georgette Beck Georgette Beck is an author, speaker, heart healer, and the host of the Jun k to Jewels Podcast. Painting What the Ocean Can’t Say: Sandy Treasures on Plastic Pollution, Trashy Mermaids & Art That Changes Minds

What if a painting could make a stranger stop, listen — and cry? In this episode of the Junk to Jewels Podcast, Georgette Beck sits down with Sandy Treasures — artist, author, environmental advocate, and Treasure Coast local — for a conversation about art that doesn’t just decorate walls. It tells the truth. Born in Chicago and raised in Colombia, Sandy spent decades exploring her artistic gifts — from automotive airbrushing and oil portraits to murals, body art, tattoos, and handmade crafts. After nearly 17 years in the tattoo industry, she found herself at a crossroads, throwing spaghetti at the wall and searching for what would stick.   Then came the painting that changed everything: the last living mermaid in the Dead Sea — crafting necklaces from plastic straws, wearing bottle cap earrings, sporting a six-pack holder on her wrist, and stringing fish skeletons onto a floating bottle just to pretend that life was still alive around her.   People walked right past it. So Sandy started telling the story out loud. And they stopped. And they cried. And a little girl said: “You should write a book.”   That book — Trashy Mermaid in the Plastic Pollution Legacy — is now available on Amazon, illustrated with Sandy’s original environmental awareness paintings, many of them created on repurposed surfboards.   In this episode, Sandy and Georgette dive deep — from the science of ocean acidification and microplastics to the surprising frequency of fabric and what the Bible says about mixing linen and wool. This one is equal parts eye-opening, heart-stirring, and beautifully weird.   In This Episode: Sandy’s journey: Chicago to Colombia, nanny work in Miami, airbrushing, tattoos, and the gift shop that didn’t stick The painting that started everything — the last living mermaid in the Dead Sea How Sandy began telling the story out loud to strangers — and why it made everyone cry The little girl who said “You should write a book” Trashy Mermaid in the Plastic Pollution Legacy — and what’s inside Painting on repurposed surfboards from Facebook Marketplace The Great Pacific Garbage Patch — the size of two Texases Ocean acidification and what it’s doing to shellfish We consume the equivalent of a credit card’s worth of microplastics every month The frequency of fabrics: why linen and wool heal, and why polyester might not Practical swaps: bamboo, paper bags, biodegradable shoes, and saying no to single-use plastics Upcoming events: the Children’s Museum and Botanical Gardens Rapid fire: A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, Sadhguru, Ayurveda, and her personal mantra   Sandy’s Mantra: “I’m not going to drown in a puddle.” — Sandy Treasures   Find Sandy Treasures: Website: sandytreasuresinc.com Book: Trashy Mermaid in the Plastic Pollution Legacy — available on Amazon Facebook | Instagram | YouTube | TikTok: @SandyTreasuresInc   Sandy Treasures was born in Chicago and raised in Colombia, S.A. She studied fashion design at Boulder College in Fort Lauderdale and went on to freelance in oil portraits, automotive airbrush art, body art, tattoos, murals, and handmade crafts. The Whole Beautiful Story: Melanie Ladouceur on Love, Community, Courage & Coming Home to Yourself

In this final and deeply personal chapter of a three-part conversation, Georgette Beck welcomes back Melanie Ladouceur — entrepreneur, community leader, and owner of Bootlegger Event Services on Florida’s Treasure Coast — to wrap up her remarkable story with warmth, laughter, and real-talk wisdom.   After surviving six years of sex trafficking and escaping two toxic relationships, Melanie made a decision: she was done with love. But God had other plans.   In Part 3, Melanie shares the childhood-sweetheart love story she never expected — reconnecting with her husband Nick, her brother’s best friend whom she’d known since age three. She talks about the healing she had to do before love was even possible, the faith moment that told her she wouldn’t be serving God alone, and what it means to be built for romance when you’ve lived through the very worst of it.   She also opens up about her journey as an entrepreneur — how she bought Bootlegger Mobile Bar with no direction, no certainty, and 30 days before she had to leave the country, and how that one crazy leap of faith grew into a five-bar operation with a full team. And she talks about the community that changed everything: the Port St. Lucie Business Club, the IRSC Leadership Board, Go Getter Girls, and what it means to finally find your people.   This episode is a celebration. Of courage. Of community. Of love that comes back around when you’ve done the work to deserve it.   In This Episode: Why Melanie declared she was “done with love” — and what changed everything Her Hallmark-movie love story: the childhood crush, the hockey game, and the reconnection that became her marriage Her faith moment on the balcony — the prayer, the couple collection, and God saying “yes” You attract what you are: the wisdom of waiting until you’re healed How Bootlegger Mobile Bar was born over lunch at Second Street Bistro with her best friend Tasha From one bar cart to five bars and a full team — and why she’s not just a bartender The vision journal: how writing down dreams shapes your future Her kids: a 16-year-old daughter going into nursing and a hockey-obsessed 10-year-old son The Treasure Coast community that became her foundation: PSL Business Club, IRSC, Go Getter Girls, Dogs & Cats Forever Why your “quirks” are actually your calling — and her message to anyone being underestimated   Connect with Melanie: Website: bootlegger-events.com Instagram: @mel.florida Facebook: Melanie Rustin Ladouceur Melanie Ladouceur is the owner of Bootlegger Event Services, LLC and Marketing Manager for Bar Code Depot. Melanie Ladouceur - The Day She Said No More: Breaking Free & Building a Life Worth Living

Warning: This episode contains honest discussion of sex trafficking, violence, and survival. It is shared with courage and hope, and it may be deeply needed by someone you know.   In Part 2 of our powerful 3-part series with Melanie Ladouceur, we pick up exactly where we left off — at the edge of a strip club in the middle of nowhere, where a 15-year-old girl stood realizing she had been led somewhere she never meant to go.   What follows is one of the most raw, brave, and ultimately redemptive conversations in the history of this podcast.   Melanie walks us through six years of being sex trafficked in and around Montreal — the coercion, the shame, the threats against her family, and the impossible logic of survival mode. She describes the moment her pimp put a gun to her head and forced her to call her father. The night she was beaten to a pulp and nearly pepper sprayed for daring to say she wanted out. And the extraordinary grace of a mother’s knock at the door — a moment Melanie credits with saving her life.   But this is not just a story of suffering. It is a story of extraordinary courage and transformation.   After escaping, Melanie joined a police task force, training law enforcement, case managers, and social workers across the Tri-County Montreal area to identify and assist trafficking victims. She walked into juvenile centers. She went back to the streets. She sat with daughters of friends for three hours to share the truth no parent wants to say out loud.   In this episode, you’ll also hear Melanie’s hard-won wisdom on the signs of grooming, the power of community, the danger of low self-worth, and why — even surrounded by law enforcement her whole life — she was still vulnerable. Because they got to know her first.   Melanie’s favorite quote? “Pain is temporary. Pride is forever.”   And the person she’d sit down with over a glass of wine? Her younger self — to tell her how strong she really is.   If you know someone who needs to hear this — a teenager, a parent, a friend who’s been in a dark place — share this episode. You may not know they need it. But they might.   Connect with Melanie: Instagram: @mel.florida Facebook: Melanie Rustin Ladouceur Website: bootlegger-events.com Melanie Ladouceur is the owner of Bootlegger Event Services, LLC and Marketing Manager for Bar Code Depot. Bob Wheatley - Single-Minded: Finding Wholehearted Devotion to God

Episode Description: What if your season of singleness isn't something to fix, but something to unleash? In this powerful conversation, Georgette sits down with USA Today bestselling author Bob Wheatley to explore his journey from professional baseball player to author and speaker who's helping single Christians find purpose and strength in their current season. Bob shares his deeply personal story of surrender—when his baseball dreams, relationship, and business all ended in the summer of 2017, leaving him broken but open to God's plan. That moment of surrender led him to Nashville and eventually to writing two bestselling books that challenge everything the church typically says about singleness. Drawing from his research with over 80 single Christian men and the Apostle Paul's radical words in 1 Corinthians 7, Bob reveals what he calls "The Pauline Advantage"—the unique spiritual benefits of being single that often go unrecognized. Using the powerful metaphor of two horses (one towing weight, the other racing), he explains why God might have you in a sprint season right now where being "yoked" to someone else would actually slow you down. This conversation is for anyone who's single and wondering when their prayers will be answered, for those who've made an idol out of marriage, and for everyone who wants to understand how to truly crush it in whatever season God has them in right now. In This Episode, You'll Discover: Bob's journey from professional baseball (Toronto Blue Jays & St. Louis Cardinals) to bestselling author • The summer of 2017 that changed everything—when surrender led to transformation • What the "Pauline Advantage" is and why it matters for single Christians today • The powerful "two horses" metaphor: when being yoked helps and when it hurts • Why Paul wished single Christians would remain single (1 Corinthians 7) • The difference between being "fixed" and being "unleashed" as a single person • Insights from interviewing 82 single Christian men about faith, loneliness, and relationships • How to discover what God is doing IN you and THROUGH you during singleness • The importance of deep friendships and community (not just romantic relationships) • Why "all pain is painful, but not all pain is harmful" • How fiction books like Les Miserables shaped Bob's writing into art • Practical encouragement for the church on how to better support single Christians Key Quotes from Bob: "I have proven that I am a bad God. I'm a bad author of my story. Here's my life." "According to Paul, you have an advantage. This is a season that you have a unique ability to discover what is God doing in you...and what he's doing or wants to do through you." "God might have you in a sprint right now. You might be so flexible, so mobile, so available for him that a yoke would actually slow you up." "Single Christians don't need to be fixed. There's nothing wrong with you. You need to be unleashed." "All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." - Psalm 139:16 Guest Bio: Bob Wheatley is a USA Today bestselling author, keynote speaker, and former professional athlete. After playing four years of professional baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals organizations, Bob experienced a transformational summer of surrender that led him to Nashville and to his calling as an author and speaker. His work has been featured on Way FM, Christian Nation, Focus on the Family, and various international outlets. As a strategist with Brand Builders Group—the world's leading personal brand firm—Bob helps mission-driven leaders expand their reach and impact. His latest book, "Single-Minded," offers a radical reframing of singleness based on the Apostle Paul's counter-cultural teaching. Bob's passion is helping single Christians find purpose and strength in their season and connecting with Jesus like never before. James shares his remarkable journey from being recognized by Governor Jeb Bush as Florida's first Occupant Protection Officer to becoming CEO of BLUELINE Security Consulting Group and earning a 2019 U.S. Patent for his Active Shooter Alert System. With raw honesty, James recounts the pivotal moments that shaped his mission—from being first on scene at a devastating active shooter incident to serving on the MSD Parkland Reenactment Team. Caite Corripio - From CPA to Health Coach: Caite Corripio's 80-Pound Transformation Journey

In this powerful episode of Junk to Jewels, Georgette sits down with her dear friend Caite Corrippo, a certified board-certified health and wellness coach and co-founder of Healthy and Vibrant. Caite shares her incredible transformation story—from struggling with 80 pounds of excess weight while climbing the corporate ladder as a CPA and executive, to reclaiming her health and helping thousands of women do the same. Growing up as one of eight kids in Philadelphia with her identical twin sister Beth, Caite learned early about resilience, family bonds, and making your own way. She shares candidly about being mistaken for the same person, receiving one birthday gift to share, and the journey of establishing her own identity—including the pivotal moment when she told her twin they needed to attend different colleges. Caite opens up about divine interventions that shaped her path—from a high school injury that redirected her academic track toward accounting, to an unexpected layoff that became the doorway to meeting her husband of 28 years in Florida. She reveals the courageous conversation that saved her relationship, when she gave her future husband space to decide if marriage was truly what he wanted, even though that week of waiting was one of the hardest of her life. The conversation takes a deeply personal turn as Caite discusses her weight loss journey, breaking free from generational patterns, and the grief that came with losing her father unexpectedly. She shares practical wisdom about why reaching your goal weight is just the beginning, not the end, and how every day requires putting on your boxing gloves to maintain healthy habits. Keren Kilgore - From 52 Moves to Mastery: The Book Publisher Who Helps You Find Your Purpose

Episode Description In this captivating episode, Georgette Beck welcomes Keren Kilgore - mastery of self coach, book publisher, and founder of Quantum Shift Media. For the past 30 years, Keren has worked with authors to write, publish, and market impactful books that make a difference in the world. But Keren's journey to this calling is unlike any other. Growing up as the daughter of an international Bible teacher, she moved 52 times and attended 15 schools by the time she graduated high school. She learned to live by faith - literally giving everything away except what fit in the car, trusting God would provide at each new destination. And He always did. Keren has ridden motorcycles across the country (including a 1,000-mile "Iron Butt" ride in 24 hours as the only female finisher), been a foster parent to 26 teenagers over 9 years, lived in Africa, and created the 90-Day Book Launch Blueprint to help authors make $10K+ from book sales, speaking gigs, and new clients. Most powerfully, Keren discovered the 28-Day Mastery of Self Experience - a transformational method that connects people to their higher power to shift limiting beliefs stored in the subconscious. In just 10 minutes, she's seen people resolve panic attacks, discover their purpose, and break free from decades of "I'm not enough" programming. This conversation covers living by radical faith, the power of desire and purpose, why your logical mind can't solve problems it created, transformation by subtraction, and how books are literally in God's library.   About Keren Kilgore Keren Kilgore is a mastery of self coach and book publisher who works with organizations, entrepreneurs, and visionary leaders, helping them write books that change lives and guiding them on the mastery of self experience. For the past 30 years, she has had the privilege of working with authors and writing impactful books that make a difference in the world. She has worked on many types of books, including memoirs, personal development, college textbooks, fiction, and children's books. Keren created the 90-Day Book Launch Blueprint to help authors launch their own books and make $10K+ from book sales, speaking gigs, and new clients. She also guides people in a 28-Day Mastery of Self Experience so they can be master of their lives, connecting them to their higher power to quickly and permanently shift issues that keep them stuck. Keren is committed to helping people reach their full potential. She's happily married to her husband Michael for 44 years, and they love outdoor activities together. They have two children, four grandchildren (ages 9-14), and a sweet puppy named Finn. Keren and Michael were foster parents for 9 years, caring for 26 teenagers in their home. During that time, Keren taught parenting classes at the Salvation Army. She's an avid motorcycle rider (including completing a 1,000-mile Iron Butt ride in 24 hours as the only female finisher), and has lived all over the United States and in Kampala, Africa. Caryn Treister - Never Settle: From People-Pleasing to Powerful Living

Episode Description In this deeply inspiring episode, Georgette Beck welcomes Caryn Treister - Transformational Mindset Coach, NLP Master, Motivational Speaker, and creator of The Confidence Ignited Method. For over 30 years, Caryn has dedicated herself to empowering women, first in the wellness field through fitness and nutrition, and now as a coach helping women cultivate unshakable confidence, power, and purpose. Caryn's journey is one of transformation - from growing up in New Hampshire with a depressed mother and dysfunctional family dynamics, to becoming a successful model working across the country and in Japan, to surviving a life-threatening brain tumor while pregnant, to ultimately leaving a 36-year marriage marked by emotional abuse and gaslighting. But Caryn didn't just survive - she thrived. After discovering NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) at a Tony Robbins event and studying with masters like T. Harv Ecker, Bob Proctor, and Richard Bandler, Caryn created a method to help women stop chasing confidence and start creating it from the inside out. This conversation covers the difference between courage and inner worthiness, why modeling didn't give her true confidence, surviving a massive brain tumor during pregnancy, the umbrella of shame in emotionally abusive relationships, walking on fire (literally!), and how rewiring your thoughts can change your entire reality. Nancy Ferraro - When the Bough Breaks: Advocating for Special Needs Children with Courage and Love

In this deeply powerful and important episode, Georgette Beck welcomes Nancy Ferraro - Florida-based estate planning and probate attorney, author of the award-winning memoir "When the Bough Breaks," and fierce advocate for families with special needs children. Nancy's journey is one of extraordinary courage. She and her then-husband adopted a boy named George from Romania, believing he was healthy. George arrived as what Nancy describes as "a wild animal in the body of a boy" - suffering from institutionally acquired autism, low IQ, fetal alcohol syndrome, and various psychoses. For nearly a decade, Nancy was the object of George's violence while navigating systems that often failed her family. But Nancy didn't just survive - she became a warrior. She learned to advocate, to command respect rather than beg for favors, and ultimately found the courage to place George in a group home at age 14 - a decision that saved all of their lives. Today, George is "living his best life," and Nancy uses her platform to shed light, share hope, and offer community to parents who feel alone. This conversation covers the reality of fetal alcohol syndrome (affecting 1 in 15 American children), why mothers shouldn't hide under rocks in shame, the importance of getting proper diagnosis and help, estate planning for special needs families, and why sometimes going through hardship isn't for you - it's for someone watching you. Today, she's remarried to a godly man who loves and respects her, and she uses her story to help other women find their strength in Jesus and move from abuse into destiny. Sandy Dworkin – A Miracle Walking

Sandy Dworkin, a vibrant 71-year-old mother, wife, grandmother, and line dance instructor, has led a full life marked by health, energy, and a commitment to community service. Active since retiring at 50, she became a prominent line dance teacher, performing at various charity events and earning an award for outstanding contribution at her community, Nettles Island. In 2019, after a hurricane evacuation, Sandy experienced severe back pain that led to the discovery of a tumor on her spine. Diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, she faced a challenging treatment journey that included chemotherapy, radiation, and a stem cell transplant. Her battle with the disease was complicated by a life-threatening infection that led to her being placed on a ventilator in a medically induced coma. However, the support from family, friends, and prayer circles around the world played a crucial role in her recovery. Sandy's resilience is evident as she continued teaching line dance even during treatment and managed to maintain her health through daily walking and spiritual growth. She also started a diverse Bible study group, learning about Jesus and fostering interfaith understanding. Throughout this ordeal, Sandy has focused on surviving, not feeling sorry for herself, and embracing her faith, health, and family support. Her story is one of strength, perseverance, and a deep belief in the power of community and prayer.   Junk to Jewels podcast was inspired by Georgette Beck's first book, Junk to Jewels, A Journey from Brokenness and Despair to Beauty and Delight. Listeners and viewers will be inspired to never quit trying to improve.                                                                          Keith’s story is about determination and triumph, a story that has inspired many who have heard it. In 1999, at age 36, Keith suffered a life-threatening brain hemorrhage and lost all his balance and coordination. He could not even swallow and his doctor told him that he might never walk or speak clearly again. But he refused to accept that fate. Keith was determined to prove his doctor wrong. It's been over twenty-four years since that day, and Keith’s journey has been one of incredible recovery with a major deficit to his health. Through years of therapy and hard work, with the support of his family and friends, he is no longer in a wheelchair, and he can speak clearly. Keith Buff has even embarked on a motivational speaking tour to share his story of courage and overcoming adversity. They also highlight the fun and joy of his childhood in the 1970s, serving as a reminder to appreciate what we have and to put our lives into perspective. Keith Buff’s story is for everyone. Mark Barnes – ThE BaD BoY oF ChilL OuT

Mark Barnes was born in Buffalo, NY on April 19, 1961. His immediate family was always very creative through either music or art. Mark’s Grandmother played Piano at various movie houses for the silent films in the 20's and 30’s. His Father and Mother were musically and artistically inclined respectively.   Mark has been playing the Piano since the age of 3 and was always a terror to his piano teachers, never wanting to play the lesson but always wanting to feel the music instead and play what was inside his head. When he was 12, his mother finally signed his sister and Mark up for Guitar lessons. Although Mark had no interest in playing the guitar and did not feel this would be of any benefit, the instructor worked with them for 6 months. He was teaching us guitar chords, my sister the guitar and for Mark, the relationship of the guitar and their chords to the piano. It was great and Mark credits him with helping him to understand how to play out his emotions and feelings.   Mark composed his first Ballad at age 15 for his father. It was funny as his dad always called Mark "The professor." Mark always thought that would somehow become his nickname, but Mark’s friends were always calling him “Barnsey,” and that’s what stuck. Mark loves to travel extensively and finds the most relaxing vacation to be a cruise. Mark really enjoys working with other musicians and finds that its helps create a very emotional edge about his music. It is the one place in which Mark can truly express all of his tears, fears, laughter and love for all of those around him. Mark feels “Music is the window to the soul. Put your negative emotions into being creative and never take them out on another human being.”   Mark was always the realist when he was younger. He wanted to enter the music field but never felt the right timing then and thought that in such a competitive field and with all of these other wonderful musicians out there that he would never stand a chance. So thus, Mark went into financial business for himself and has run numerous successful mortgage banking and mortgage lending firms for the last 24 years, moving to Florida in the process. He continues to compose and play new music for the people who matter most in his life, which is his family & friends.   Funny how times change, and the Internet was probably the biggest catalyst in that change for the music industry. It has brought us so much closer and has given us all a real gift. Mark has to say setting up his MySpace personal and music page was the most positive experience of his musical life. It had allowed him to meet some very wonderful talented musicians, singers and artists of all walks of life and share their talents with each other and the public (their fans). It had inspired Mark to realize that it does not matter how old one is or where one is in life, good music and the arts should play an important role in everyone's existence. Mark has new found inspirations since his mom’s passing, and the emotional well just keeps pouring out new songs weekly. That combined with all of the new people has met, been exposed to and inspired by, has allowed him to open himself to listening and composing all types and styles of music.   Out of this entire experience and most of all, Mark Barnes looks forward to continue composing and writing new music and playing them….just for you!   #markbarnes #music #songwriter #artist   Georgette Website: https://www.georgettebeck.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/georgette.beck/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GeorgetteBeckWriter   Mark Website: https://markbarnesmusic.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markbarnesmusic Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MarkBarnesMusic1/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/markbarnesmusic/     Junk to Jewels podcast was inspired by Georgette Beck's first book, Junk to Jewels, A Journey from Brokenness and Despair to Beauty and Delight.  Junk to Jewels podcast with Georgette Beck will inspire, educate, encourage, motivate, and give hope to listeners as they heal from their past, in the present, for their future.  Georgette is not afraid to share her heart with listeners, for heart matters, truly matter! Riley Sloan Powell – Let’s un-Do This!

Riley Sloan Powell is a speaker and bestselling author as well as a wife and mother to three amazing children, ages 2-17. Through a pivotal journey back through her story, she changed the narrative of her life to become rooted in the truth that God loves her deeply. Now she uses all she has learned to lead others in finding their identity, without performance, perfection, or exhaustion, and to learn how to hear God's voice in their own lives.   Riley and Georgette discuss what it means to seek God and find Him in ones own life. God chases after us to give us truth. He tells us to seek Him but that feels mysterious. How can we find Him? How does He sound? What are we even looking for? Riley believes knowing His voice awakens our lives to true living. We spend to much time in automatic movement s, meeting expectations, but what happens when we receive the love of God and live in response?   Riley’s book, Let’s un-Do This, is her story of marrying young which led to a young divorce, then getting pregnant out of wedlock, all as a Christian who loved Jesus. Riley put on her happy face and did her best to be happy and live the best life she could after that until God invited her to healing and showing her His love for her.   After years of wishing she could be perfect, but really loathing her story and hiding deep in shame, Riley took a trip through her past, allowing God space to rewrite the narrative of her heart, with true identity, clothed in love.   This is a story of realizing it is not too late to be who you long to be.   It is a story of a great big God leaning in close to whisper in a voice only she could hear to remind her who she is. By discovering His voice for her, she could see where He had chased after her to give her truth. She used the technique of writing her story to discover how God had been in every detail, covering and pursuing to give life. She found Him in all kinds of places, from in the embrace of her brother in an armchair, to in her car while zooming down the interstate!   This memoir extends a personal invitation to the reader to breathe deeply and believe that God is FOR YOU. This isn’t a process of digging up the past and it’s not even about stepping into purpose. This is about making space for the MORE God is offering in this moment.   Are you full of exhaustion and so tired of trying to keep up?   Do you even know what you want? When was the last time you were asked?   Can you find room for one more thing, much less family devotions or being creative?   Are you playing small, hidden in regrets?   This book will fill your life with renewed energy and passion for living. Through personal story and hilarious wit, Riley invites us all on a journey of checking our beliefs and making space to be reintroduced to the Father, so that we can boldly live lives from a place of confident rest. When we find Him in our story we can see that we are deeply known by God and liked by God.   When your identity in Him feels easy, the rest flows in grace.     Socials:   Georgette https://www.instagram.com/georgette.beck/   https://www.facebook.com/GeorgetteBeckWriter   Riley Instagram: @rileysloanpowell Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/letsundothis     Junk to Jewels podcast was inspired by Georgette Beck's first book, Junk to Jewels, A Journey from Brokenness and Despair to Beauty and Delight.  Junk to Jewels podcast with Georgette Beck will inspire, educate, encourage, motivate, and give hope to listeners as they heal from their past, in the present, for their future.  Georgette is not afraid to share her heart with listeners, for heart matters, truly matter! Georgette Beck – Everlasting Love & A Daughter's Tribute

Georgette Beck, the host of Junk to Jewels Podcast, beautifully pays a special tribute to her father, George Kijewski, who passed away on January 20, 2024. Georgettes in memory story starts off with her grandparents on her father’s side, both of whom she considers bad assess. Georgette describes a beautiful photo of her mom framed for her dad with a personal message written on it; “George, my love for you is everlasting. Joanna.” Turns out, both of Georgette’s parents’ love for each other was everlasting. Georgette’s parents were on the cusp of celebrating 50 years of marriage before her mom passed away (June 2, 2017). Their 50 years were years full of life, vibrant, colorful, interesting life, full of adventures, love, joys, pains, mountaintops and valleys. Both her mother and father understood sacrifice and hardship. They also understood what love, faithfulness and loyalty truly mean. For they both lived this out to each of their final days here. Georgette states, “My parents have left us kids a beautiful legacy and for all of us really, of two lives lived who understood what love is about. Their story is an epic love story. It’s a story not just about the guy getting the girl in the end, but about a guy who “got” the girl in the beginning and about a girl who “got” thee guy. And when I say “got” I mean literally, they found each other, but also figuratively, for they truly understood each other.”    George and Joanna’s love story portrays epic love. And it starts off with a handsome young man referred to as “Gorgeous George” and a very beautiful young lady named Joanna. Life began for the couple in some usual ways and with plenty of unusual circumstances woven in through the years.     On July 22, 1998, Georgette’s mom gifted her father with a Bible and on the inside wrote, “To my beloved, tenderhearted husband George who I love even more today than yesterday. Joanna.”   Georgette shares how the date has significance. You see that was a season of life full of transition and loss. Both of her parents hit a bottom of sort, emotionally, financially, mentally and physically. Georgette describes specific circumstances.   She ends by saying, “But honestly, my key takeaways on how to live life well came from my parents, from having watched them live their lives through all of their ups and downs as they navigated mistakes made by themselves or by others. My key takeaways from lives they led are:   Select a good mate love hard take risk remain faithful be loyal be generous in heart, time, and money help others be good parents to your children (not their best friends, but parents who take the time to develop their kids, provide for their kids and hold their kids accountable to choices made and to suffer consequences accordingly work hard be a visionary and have huge dreams go after it, whatever that is for you have faith and lots of it Don’t ever give up Forgive and give grace”   Georgette challenges individuals to show up for life and do the best you can.   Her parents did the best they could every single time. They failed, but they kept trying. We failed too. But it’s what we do with the failure that matters.   Georgette asks viewers and listeners to look at past and present photos. Decide who you wish to be and what you truly desire for you and your family’s future.   Life and family are what we make of it.   Everlasting love was experienced by her parents. And Georgette says everlasting love is for us all.   #everlastinglove, #family, #relationships, #lifepriorities, #deathoffather, #father, #daughter, #love, #forgiveness, #howtolivelife, #epiclove, #celebrationoflife, #memorial   Junk to Jewels podcast was inspired by Georgette Beck's first book, Junk to Jewels, A Journey from Brokenness and Despair to Beauty and Delight.  Junk to Jewels podcast with Georgette Beck will inspire, educate, encourage, motivate, and give hope to listeners as they heal from their past, in the present, for their future.  Georgette is not afraid to share her heart with listeners, for heart matters, truly matter!
