Saying 7: Commit
Saying 7: Commit “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” Note: YOU WILL NEED JESUS STICKERS OR A GOOGLE IMAGE OF JESUS YOU CAN PRINT FOR THIS EXPERIENCE (see playlist description for details). A few questions to consider as you listen: ● What does it mean to “commit” to something? ● What “commitments” have you made? (sports, dance, theatre, church) ● What do you think it looks like to “commit” to God? Have you ever thought of faith as a commitment? ● Do you think you’ve made a commitment to God? Why or why not? Sometimes, our commitments need strengthening. Sometimes we just need a reminder of our commitment. Choose the sticker / image of Jesus that most speaks to you that will you remind you of your commitment to God. Hang it on your bathroom mirror, stick it on your phone or in your car where you will see it regularly as a reminder of your commitment to God.
-
40
Saying 6: Finished
Saying 6: Finished “It is finished." Note: YOU WILL NEED A CROSS YOU CAN HOLD FOR THIS EXPERIENCE (see playlist description for details). Pick up a cross and hold it in your hands. The word “finished” comes from the Greek word that also translates as “it is accomplished” or “it is complete.” When Jesus died on the cross, that meant there was nothing left for us to do. The cross is a symbol of God’s finished work in our lives. Nothing left to prove -- no work left to do to obtain salvation. It was just...finished. What are some ways to remember Jesus’ death in our own lives?Transcript
-
39
Saying 5: Thirsty
Saying 5: Thirsty “I am thirsty." Note: YOU WILL NEED SOMETHING TO DRINK FOR THIS EXPERIENCE (see playlist description for details). Jesus was thirsty! But his needs certainly were not met while He was on the cross. Take a drink from the drink in front of you. As you sip and satisfy your thirst, consider these questions: - Is there anything that you are “thirsty” for? In other words, what do you long to have in your life? Popularity, success of some kind, friendship, maybe you want to love yourself more, better grades, to be more like Jesus? - As you consider what people are thirsty for - are there good things to be thirsty for? Not so good things? How do we tell the difference when it is something we really desire?
-
38
Saying 4: Forsaken
Saying 4: Forsaken “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” Note: YOU WILL NEED A BLINDFOLD / EYE MASK / BANDANA FOR THIS EXPERIENCE. Take a mask and put it on. This give you a sense of the darkness of this moment for Jesus. As you sit with the mask on (probably feeling super uncomfortable), think about these questions … : o Is there a time you felt all alone? o Is there a time that you felt like people were mocking or making fun of you? o Can you relate to what Jesus is feeling? Have you ever felt like God had abandoned you?
-
37
Saying 3: Mother
Saying 3: Mother “Woman, here is your son,” And to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” Note: YOU WILL NEED RANDOM PUZZLE PIECES (BLANK BACK SIDE) OR A PIECE OF SKETCH PAPER TO WRITE ON. We all have people who have played a part in our spiritual journey. In fact, a big part of our spiritual journey is all the different people who have played a role in it! So who are you spiritual “mothers” or spiritual “brothers.” Grab a few of the puzzle pieces and write the name of your spiritual mother or brother. Who do you give thanks to God for that has been a part of your spiritual journey?
-
36
Saying 2: Paradise
Saying 2: Paradise “Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Note: YOU WILL NEED TO GOOGLE IMAGES OF PARADISE FOR THIS EXPERIENCE (see playlist description for details). Jesus was so quick to forgive the thief on the cross beside him, even as He was dying for that thief's sins! What does this say about Jesus' character and nature? Jesus promises the thief paradise. How does it make you feel to know that you are also promised the same? Google images of paradise and choose the one that most speaks to you. As you look at it, imagine what it would be like to live there. To enjoy that place with those you love and who love you. Take a moment to ponder paradise!
-
35
Saying 1: Forgiveness
Saying 1: Forgiveness “God, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Note: YOU WILL NEED A STRESS BALL FOR THIS EXPERIENCE (see playlist description for details). Pick up the soft, squishy heart or stressball at this station. Squeeze it in your hands. As you do think … • Is there a person in your life who you need to forgive? - Someone who hurt your feelings? - Someone betrayed you? - Someone who was mean? • Try to allow your heart to be soft toward that person, just as Jesus forgave those who hurt Him. NOW CONSIDER: • How is God’s forgiveness like this? • Do you think there is anything that God won’t forgive? • How can we forgive like God forgives?
