Who Cares if We're Not Invited, We're Here featuring Bonnie Gross

Lady Parts fillmmaker shares her experience navigating vulvovaginal healthcare.Bonnie Gross is an award-winning comedy writer, producer, and post-production professional who’s never met a taboo topic she couldn’t turn into a smart, comical, and deeply relatable story. She has a passion for telling authentic narratives about life with chronic vulvovaginal and pelvic pain, stories she believes deserve far more screen time. Originally from Philadelphia and now based in New York City, she earned her B.A. in Media Production from the University of Alabama and completed the UCLA Professional Program in TV Comedy Writing in 2018. Her most recent film Lady Parts, now streaming on Amazon Prime, is an autobiographical comedy inspired by her experience navigating vulvovaginal healthcare. It earned the Special Jury Award for Screenwriting at the Florida Film Festival and the Jury Award for Best Comedy.Bonnie spent several years in post-production at Encore Hollywood and Light Iron working across a range of television and film projects. She now co-owns Brainwomb, a boutique finishing house in NYC where she partners with filmmakers to shape stories throughout post-production. She has also written, produced, and edited comedic content for It’s a Southern Thing. She serves as social media manager and campaign volunteer for Tight Lipped, a grassroots advocacy organization by and for people with chronic vulvovaginal and pelvic pain. All of this is driven by a simple goal: to make people feel seen, understood, and maybe even laugh at a speculum joke along the way."At its core, Lady Parts is a film with a mission: to shatter the stigma around discussions of women's bodies. By addressing the cultural shame and silence surrounding these conversations, the film empowers audiences to embrace openness and honesty about their health and well-being."

Mind the Gap featuring Jasmine Brown

Soon-to-be physician, medical scholar & author, and advocate for inclusive medical communities shares her joys, struggles, and truth.Jasmine Brown is a UPenn medical student, Rhodes Scholar and the author of TWICE AS HARD: The Stories of Black Women Who Fought to Become Physicians from the Civil War to the 21st Century. She used her time at the University of Oxford to complete a master’s in History of Medicine and study the social and structural barriers put in place to prevent black women from entering medicine in the U.S. Through her research, she found that no complete history of black women physicians in the United States existed, and what little mention was made to these women in existing histories was often insubstantial or altogether incorrect. Jasmine believed that sharing the stories of black women physicians would inspire future generations of minority physicians, so she decided to publish her research as a book.In TWICE AS HARD, Jasmine champions a new history, penning the long-erased stories of black women physicians in permanent ink. Since her book went on sale, it has become a #1 New Release in History of Medicine and in Women’s History on Amazon. It also reached #8 in the overall ranking for History of Medicine, ranked next to Medical Apartheid, The Emperor of All Maladies, and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.Jasmine has spoken at numerous academic institutions including Harvard University, Columbia University, and Spelman College, as well as national conferences for organizations like the AAMC and the American Medical Women’s Association. She’s been featured in various media outlets including Time Magazine, NPR and 6abc News. She’s also been the recipient of multiple awards such as the National Minority Quality Forum’s 40 Under 40 Leaders in Health Award.Jasmine is committed to using her skills and platform to help create a more diverse and inclusive medical community."As I was writing this book, I chose to highlight African American women in particular to challenge this false narrative that African Americans are lazy. We had to work hard and exhibit unwavering determination to break into medicine. The immense obstacles impeding our journeys required nothing less. But we still shared many experiences with other black women physicians, and I hope that connection comes through too."Jasmine Brown from TWICE AS HARD: The Stories of Black Women Who Fought to Become Physicians, from the Civil War to the 21st Centuryjasminebrownauthor.comRevved Up & Ready to Go Playlist for 2025:Listen to Jasmine Browns’s picks:“Brown Skin Girl” by Beyonce, Blue Ivy, SAINt JHN, WizKid“So Ambitious” (clean version) by JAY Z and Pharrell Williams“Level Up” by Ciara“Rise Up” by Andra Day“I'm That Girl” (clean version) by BeyonceThanks for reading & listening to OVERexpressed & OUT Podcast! It is her passion to help people find their way to feeling good through advancing the role of integrative therapies in medical care and by sharing her love of plant based medicine via Joint Joint’s products.Joint Joint products are being used on cancer patients struggling with neuropathy at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson Hospital. The director of palliative care was given a sample by a patient who already had experience with the product. He got in touch and stated that he found Joint Joint to be significantly better than other topicals he has tried from dispensaries in his travels. They have consistently ordered Joint Joint for use on patients struggling with neuropathy for over a year now.More recently, Penn Medicine’s Head and Neck surgery office has purchased samples Joint Joint multiple times to give to patients, as part of a cancer survivorship program. Initially, a nurse practitioner in the office was given a sample by someone on her team, and she found it to be effective for soothing some of the side effects of treatment for head and neck cancers.Individuals trying to cope with the effects of cancer treatment have provided feedback as well. For example, recently a woman contacted Joint Joint to explain she has severe neuropathy from her ovarian cancer treatment. She shared that Joint Joint’s balm is the only thing that helps her cope with it and gives her enough relief to do her daily activities.
