You've made it! This is part d and the last portion of Lance's interview. If you've made it this far, the SHPC can only assume that you've either enjoyed it or you are so mad at them that you're only listening with the motivation of keeping a tally of how many faux-pas they've said. :) In this episode, Lance discusses why he looks to science to help direct his decisions in life. He admits that a life where one takes control and does not just give the responsibility to someone else can be challenging. Lance explains, however, how rewarding and fulfilling such a path is. Both Nate and Lance discuss the dangers of Mormon cultural teachings that encourage its members that testimonies come in the bearing of them. This method of saying one knows something when, in fact, they only hope to know it (absent any proof or data) is not the best method of finding truth. In the final minutes, they both speculate what possible benefits can come from religion. There are, of course, many good things that they have to offer all of us. The question, however, is if these benefits outweigh the costs. Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. Lance_Agnosticism & Map Crack_5Qs 3 of 4

This is part c of Lance's interview. Yep, these two didn't stop for nothing! In this episode, Lance and Nate continue to tackle tough topics. Lance shares his perspective of God and why, after growing up faithful in the Mormon religion, he now has moved to a more agnostic view of him. Nate manages to ask Lance a few more direct questions such as what good he sees in his former faith. Nate also shares some personal details regarding the struggle he has had in supporting his kids in their decisions to get baptized into the Mormon church while doing his best to make sure these decisions aren't a result of peer, social pressure. On a more lighter note, Lance shares an embarrassing experience during one of his ultra, 100-mile marathon trail runs when he experiences some painful crack issues and ends up pulling a MacGyver fix using a map, a toothpick, and a roll of duct tape. It's a definite CRACK UP to listen to. Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. Lance_Good Friends & Porn Shaming_5Qs 2 of 4

This is part b of Lance's interview. In this episode, Lance and Nate touch upon some rather lesser talked about subjects. Topics such as what constitutes a good friend and can someone leave the Mormon church and find true happiness are discussed. These two wild n' crazy guys even peel the onion back on taboo topics such as how pornography and masturbation are handled by the Mormon church. Is there method effective at the goal they want to accomplish or is it only aggravating the problem. Questions such as whether or not shaming people for activities such as these are discussed. It's a pretty candid conversation so strap in and hold on for one wild ride. Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. Lance_Net Positives & Sky Wizard_5Qs 1 of 4

For this week's episode, Nate interviews one of his old friends from way back. This incredible guy's name is Lance. As you will hear, Lance is a very active guy who knows no bounds when it comes to running. He has run multiple races including ultra marathons of as far as 100 miles! Not only a runner, but Lance also enjoys many other outdoor activities. One of these activities, however, nearly cost him his life. About 9 years ago, Lance was competing in a timed rock climbing competition when, to his surprise, a faulty knot sent him falling down to the ground. Check out this episode to find out how this single event really changed his life and how he views it. As a note, Nate had such a great time interviewing Lance that the conversation got a little long winded. To make this conversation easier to listen to, it was split up in 4 separate sections. That said, be sure to download the next three and enjoy the show. Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. Jodie_Faith after Loss_5Qs

Have you ever asked the question "Why me God?" or wondered why you were given an experience that seemed almost more than you could bear? This episode speaks to all those who have experienced a significant loss or trial in their lives and, as a result, have found it hard to find the Faith to carry on. In this episode, our dear friend Jody shares personal details of a tragic event that occurred in her life a little more than two decades ago. While en route to make an appointment for a doctor's visit, a trip they had made many times before, Jody and her small boy Andrew collided with a snowplow that was crossing on the freeway. Though the next few hours, days and months of Jody's time would be filled with the excruciating physical pain of recovery, Jody explains that she would go through it all again if it meant she could get her son back. After such a devastating loss, Jody's spirit understandably questioned how taking her son away from her fit into God's plan. As she looks back on this event and the years that followed, Jody shares with us some observations and lessons that she learned and how she found Faith after her Loss. The SHPC would like to thank Jody for sharing her and her family's story with us and hope that it might help those out there who have gone through or are going through a difficult trial or loss out there. It's our hope that after listening to this podcast you will speak to/about others with a kinder tone and give your kids an extra hug and tell them you love them. We never know how much longer we have on this planet or when God will call our brother or sister home. Until then, "Be excellent to each other", as Bill and Ted so eloquently said in the Bill & Ted's Excellent Journey movie. Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Please be as respectful as you can. I have feelings too you know. I think I know where I hid them. :) Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. Derek Sivers_Beyond Need & Happy to Be_5Qs

For this week's episode, the SHPC traveled across the deep wide ocean to a small green rock that goes by the name of New Zealand. And just did we find in our virtual travels? We found a cool dude known as Derek Sivers (www.dereksivers.org). Derek is the founder of CD Baby. This company is the largest online seller of independent music and has sold over $100M of music to over 150,000 independent musicians. Not only is Derek a talented and successful entrepreneur, but he also is a very accomplished writer with as many as 34 books to his name. One of his books that comes highly recommended from the SHPC and is great for any entrepreneur (or "wantrepeneur" for that matter) is "Anything You Want." It's a fabulous read that will make you think twice about the way one should approach building a business. In this episode, Nate gains a few wonderful insights from Derek that he has been needing to hear for a long, long time. One piece of advice that Nate took to heart is for him to stop being a "people pleaser" and being so dependent on the thoughts and expectations of people around him. Derek explains how he does just this and tells how it has really benefited his life. Do you have an obstacle in your life that you just can't get over? Tune in and listen to Derek's advice about how he overcomes difficult events in his life and how he disconnects from these and makes them his strengths. Derek talks about all this stuff and much, much more. Go ahead and download the episode today! Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Please be as respectful as you can. For those who survived rounds 1 and 2, it's now time for the knockout episode round 3. In this session, Nate answers Doug and Dave's tough questions. They didn't let up to say the least. Make sure you don't miss the extra question asked by Nate's friend Aarica from the Facebook website. This was recorded a week or two after Doug and Dave let him go. He not only opens up another can of worms with his response and shows he's consistently inconsistent but he also seems to come to a good resolution on his church issues. Who knows, he may be back among the flock singing hymns this Sunday... Well let's not jump to any hasty conclusions. First listen to his story. :) Enjoy part 3 of the 3 part conversation. Help! I've been ambushed and my studio was taken over by two super stealthy hobgoblins. They tortured me with questions and probed my brain for nearly two hours. I pert near confessed everything. Yep, every dog has his day and today was mine. I was interviewed by my two bestest friends ever, my brothers. They were super nice and managed to wrangle a few personal skeletons that I've been carefully guarding in my closet for years. I'm gonna warn you, in this podcast, I'm pretty open and vulnerable with what I share. I hope in some way it might give some or even one of my listeners out there the courage to keep living and find reasons to smile high. Enjoy part 1 of a 3 part conversation. Cameron returns as our guest on the Smile High Podcast Club to share with us his experience of going on a 30-day complaining fast. That's right! Cameron's goal this past 30-days was to not complain. Can you imagine going 30-days and not complaining? What a challenge! During our conversation with him, Cam shares his thoughts about how difficult it was to bite his tongue and not indulge himself in the act of complaining and being negative. Even at his boy's baseball game and being surrounded by angry mothers accusing the referee of bad calls, Cameron would not join in. He was solid... Or was he? Tune in to find out how well he did and what he learned.Prepare yourself for a funny and heartwarming discussion with our friend Cam. This is one episode you don't want to miss. Cam_Loyal Friend & Loving Father_5Qs

What a terrific guest we have this week! I was able to get Cameron on the horn for an hour or so and learn about what makes this fantastic guy tick. He's like the older brother I never had. In this episode, Cam talks about an event earlier in his life that made a significant impact in the way he views and treats others. To know firsthand that we all are going to pass on and the time of this event is unknown to all of us made Cam realize that everyone he meets needs a little love and friendship. Cam also shares an experience that is sure to make our listeners cringe in embarrassment. He learned that sometimes trying to impress the vice president of your company can sometimes end up with the exact opposite effect. One should really stop digging when they realize they've fallen into a hole. I'm confident that you will find Cam's story touching and full of wisdom. He's a devoted husband and loving father. The experiences that he shares are sure to make you smile.... Maybe even smile as high as the sky. :) Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. Doug_True to Self_5Qs

Nate finally did it. He cornered his brother Doug and got the interview of the century. What an incredible episode it was! Doug shared some very personal details in this episode about growing up in a Mormon household but noting at a very young age that he saw things in a different light. After pushing his own thoughts and feelings aside in isolation, he tried to follow what he was expected to do in hopes that this would gain him the blessings he was promised. After serving a faithful mission and not seeing these promises come to fruition, he took a chance on himself, and decided to follow his voice from within. Doug's story is one of courage and inspiration. If any of you struggle to find and follow your own voice, grab a pencil and paper and take some notes from this very wise man, my dear brother Doug. In this episode, Nate really shoots the deeps about what his Dad saw and learned on the other side while he was in his coma. His Dad, Alan goes into more details on what he learned from what he saw while in a comma. There are quite a few details here than were read by Nate in episode 18b. Nate asks some pretty direct and tough questions like; what religion is the right one? Does one earn their way into heaven? What can we do to gain favor or progress while here? and many others. Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Please be as respectful as you can. I have feelings too you know. Doug is back! Yep, the co-host from season 1, my brother, is back for this very special episode. Both Doug and I gang up on my Dad and interview him about his life and share a little bit about what they saw growing up with a father who got into quite a few hairy situations and managed to live to tell the tale. This is a very fun episode with a lot of laughing. My Dad was such a great sport. This is the first of a two part episode. This one set the stage while the second is more about his experience on the other side when he had his near death experience. Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Jim&Alan_NDE & Truth_Part 3 of 5

How do you recognize spiritual truth when you come across it? What does it take to get into heaven? How important is it to learn how to love while here on earth? What is the "other side" like? All of these questions and more are explored in this episode. As you may have noticed, this is the third episode that discusses my dad's near death experience. This one is extra special because we listen to Jim give his firsthand account of the event and what happened that fateful day on the mountain when my dad had his fall. We discuss this as well as what my dad shared with Jim a year later as they met up on that same mountain. I enjoyed listening to what Jim shared and am so thankful for his time and friendship. I'm sure you will enjoy this episode as well. Also, I'd like to hear any and all of your thoughts about this. Please be as respectful as you can. I have feelings too you know. Yep, I'm back as the special guest this week. Don't you just love it! Okay, I'd rather listen to someone else's voice but, on a shoestring budget, James Earl Jones couldn't justify the time. :) J/K. This second portion goes into the actual NDE where my dad relates what he was taught by his angel buddies on the other side. There are quite a few gems here. Alan_NDE & Random Thoughts_Part 1 of 5

This week Nate is doing things a little different. Sometimes it's good to break free from the monotony and put ones pants on backwards (or something along those lines. This week's special guest is Nate. What? I know, you're probably sick of hearing from me as the host. Bear with me though, I've got something I'm reading that might just be worth your time. This is a very personal and special episode where I read a few excerpts from my dad's Near Death Experience (NDE). There's so much to say that this is my first two-parter. Make sure you listen to both! Say what? Yep, back in 1998 my father had a bad spill down a mountain, was rolled over a few times by his horse on the way down, and ended up in a strait jacket in the hospital. What sort of hospital are you talking about where their patients are put in strait jackets? - you ask. Well it's a long story and no, he wasn't admitted into to loony bin. I think this story is crazy good. I love it. So go ahead and download the episode, find a quite place, and enjoy my dad's NDE. Quickly, I am currently working on a book for this and so don't be too disappointed that not all was shared during this episode. Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. Srini Rao_Misfits & Self Doubt_5Qs

This week's guest is someone truly UNMISTAKABLE. His name is Srini Rao and his company is the "Unmistakable Media" which ports the slogan of "The voice of disruption". Under this company Srini is known by many as the master mind and creator of "The Unmistakable Creative" podcast. At unmistakablecreative.com you'll find his 500 episode archive that's full of unbelievably insightful episodes. One of my personal favorites is "The Making of Macgyver with Lee Zlotof". Macgyver was my childhood hero and is why I became an engineer. I stumbled upon this podcast a few months ago and am now an Unmistakable Addict. I ABSOLUTELY love what Srini has created and invited him on the show because, in my opinion, he has a beautiful way at looking at life and he's an incredibly insightful person. In talking about disruptive technology, I think Srini is doing it in the way we look at our lives in almost every way. Srini is no Weenie. He's bold and shifting people's paradigms left and right. Srini is the bestselling author of a book entitled "The Art of Being Unmistakable: A Collection of Essays about Making a Dent in the Universe" (Nov. 2013). I just started reading this book and my mind is being blown. In fact, Glenn Beck interviewed Srini and said the following about his book, "It is the future, it is what's coming and it is the way out about just about every mess the world finds itself in." I want to publicly thank Srini for taking the time to be on my show today. I know he's a very busy man. More specifically, I wanted to thank him for the work he's done. He doesn't know this but I've been using his content to keep me afloat in pursuing my own dreams and aspirations. Some of my listeners know I've started a company this year, published my first book, and reengaged with this podcast. One of the fuels i've been using to do this creative work is Srini's podcast. It's for that reason I highly, highly recommend you download an episode today and try it out.

This week's guest is someone truly remarkable. His name is Keith and his story is one of love and good humor. Not too long ago, Keith had a life changing experience where he was electrocuted by a high-voltage power line. Fortunately, this dangerous situation did not take his life but it did leave him with some serious scars. Living through this horrible experience, Keith realized that his life was much too short to waste time worrying about other people's opinions. He also realized that his family was where his happiness was found. Growing up, Keith had a wonderful role model from which he learned the ropes of life. His father taught him important lessons in life about how true charity and love is to be demonstrated and practiced. Keith only wishes that his life could be as genuine and selfless as that of his dad's. Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. Matt_Purpose of Prayer_30Day

This week's Smile High Podcast Club (SHPC) episode is all about Matt's 30-day challenge. Yep, it has already been 30-days and he's ready to report what happened. I know you've been waiting for this moment so let us dig in. In this episode, Matt and Nate explore the power of prayer and how it might prove useful to both the believer and unbeliever alike. Matt's take on prayer is very insightful and offers a perspective that perhaps many haven't considered. Could it be that some of us don't take the time to pray because we don't think prayer works or even helps? Is there really a God out there listening? Matt addresses questions like these and explains what he thinks the answers might be. Could it be that perhaps we've been using prayer the wrong way and that is why it might seem that they are not being answered? Answers like these and many more are explored during this week's show. At the end of the show, a challenge is given to the listener to try prayer out. If you decide to take on this challenge and can share your experiences about prayer, we'd like to hear about them.

    Matt_Feeling & Prayer_5Qs

This week's Smile High Podcast Club (SHPC) show is the very first episode in Season 2. Yep, that's right, we've graduated to a new season with all new questions. To kick off this season, we have Nate's good buddy Matt. Matt's story is unique and the perspectives he shares are quite insightful. Amongst his many passions, Matt absolutely adores gummy products. If he had his way, he'd have gummy bears for dinner and go straight in to a nice veggie tray. Professionally, Matt has really excelled at what he does. He's a corporate man with a passion for teaching others how to develop themselves and their skills and talents. Through the years and through careful observation, he's been able to distill down his method to just one idea. This one idea has made all the difference in his ability to stimulate the desire to learning and growing in his fellow colleagues. Matt's multidimensional life also includes many ideas and practices from within the spiritual/religious realm. Matt is a strong proponent of living a life that includes a sensitivity to God's whisperings through what he calls the Holy Ghost or Spirit. Using his feelings as a guide, this has made all the difference in his life and how he's been able to appreciate an unmistakable peace and comfort in his life. These are just a few of many topics covered by Matt and Nate during this episode. In fact, not only is this the first interview of Season 2 but it's the longest podcast done thus far. Nate even had to cut it down in half to make sure it could be uploaded. There's just so much juicy content here. It's a must hear. One quick note, however, Nate didn't realize that Darth Vader was on the line during the interview too. Though he doesn't play a big part, you may be able to hear him BREATHING right into the microphone. Oooppss. Please try and not let that distract you from Matt's great story. Thank you for listening to his story and enjoy the show. If you like the show, please share it with your friends and like us on Facebook.
