The Script for Tomorrow by Tunde Kelani
In the realm of African cinema, @tkelani stands out as a pivotal figure whose works meticulously weave the richness of Nigerian culture, folklore, and contemporary societal issues. His films are not merely entertainment; they serve as a discourse on Nigeria's socio-political landscape, reflecting the challenges and triumphs of its people. This essay aims to delve into the artistic and thematic nuances of Kelani’s films, elucidating their impact on both local and global audiences.Tunde Kelani has carved a niche for himself in the Nigerian film industry, showcasing his commitment to promoting Yoruba culture and language. Kelani’s works are grounded in the realities of Nigerian society, employing cultural narratives that resonate deeply with his audience, making him a unique voice in contemporary African cinema. One of the foremost attributes of Tunde Kelani's films is their unwavering commitment to cultural authenticity. His film "Saworoide" (1999) is a potent example of this commitment. It highlights the themes of political corruption and cultural heritage through the lens of traditional Yoruba mythology, specifically the icon of the 'Saworoide'—a masquerade symbolising power and governance. The film critiques the political climate in Nigeria, portraying the dire consequences of corruption and poor governance, which were rampant at the time of its release. In “Thunderbolt: Magun” (2001), Kelani not only narrates a captivating story but also immerses the audience in the rich Yoruba lore surrounding infidelity and its supernatural consequences.Tunde Kelani's directorial style is characterised by meticulous attention to visual aesthetics and narrative techniques that are steeped in cultural significance. His films often showcase vibrant colours, elaborate costumes, and traditional settings that transport audiences to the heart of Yoruba culture. The cinematography in Kelani’s films is intentionally designed to reflect the emotional undertones of the narrative. For instance, the pastoral landscapes in "Ayo Ni Mo Fe" (2005) reinforce themes of love against the backdrop of cultural heritage.Kelani also adopts a narrative technique that intertwines personal stories with broader societal issues. This duality allows audiences to relate to the characters on a personal level while simultaneously engaging with larger, more complex issues. In “Ise, Aiku” (2007). The film takes the audience through the pain of loss, the hope of reconciliation, and the desire for understanding across generational lines, all grounded in the cultural context of Nigeria.Kelani’s films serve as a powerful platform for social commentary, addressing pressing issues that plague Nigerian society. By tackling themes such as corruption, gender inequality, and the impact of colonial history, Kelani’s narratives provoke thought and encourage dialogue among viewers. For instance, in "The Narrow Path" (2006), Kelani examines the tension between traditional values and the aspirations of the younger generation. The film encapsulates the struggle of a young man torn between his father's traditional expectations and his desire for a modern life.In “Dazzling Mirage” (2014), based on the novel by Yinka Egbokhare, Kelani presents the story of a sickle cell patient navigating societal prejudices and personal challenges. His film "The Serpent's Eye" (1995), which critiques the loss of cultural heritage and identity in the face of colonialism, serves as an important reminder of the necessity to reclaim and redefine narrative ownership. The impact of Kelani's work extends beyond entertainment; it serves as an educational tool that informs and engages audiences about their history, culture, and societal issues. In conclusion, Tunde Kelani's films are not merely stories; they are scripts for tomorrow, sketching out visions of a society grappling with its past but striving towards a better future. T

CULTURAL PROGRAMMING IN AFRICA --- HRM (REGENT) TINUADE BABALOLA ADEJUYIGBE
The acceptance and denial of female kingship within Yoruba culture are indicative of a broader struggle for gender equity across Africa. While historical contexts show that women wielded power, contemporary shifts still grapple with the remnants of colonialism and patriarchal dominance that question women's capacity to lead. Recognising the dual narrative is essential; understanding that female kingship exists within a continuum of cultural evolution is vital for addressing the gaps between traditional practices and modern societal structures.Current trends indicate a gradual shift towards acceptance, buoyed by advocacy and activism. Women are increasingly reclaiming narratives and embracing traditional structures that allow for female leadership. Notable initiatives focus on empowering women through education, policymaking, and community engagement. In conclusion, female kingship within the Yoruba context is emblematic of wider societal struggles regarding gender equality and cultural identity. SALVATION FOR SALE--- ELISHA JIMAH & NKEM MADICHIE
The Prosperity Gospel, with its promises of wealth and success, draws many into a seemingly attractive way of faith that ultimately risks distorting the very essence of the Christian journey. By examining the theological underpinnings and socio-cultural ramifications, we uncover a duality between faith performance and the substantive journey of discovering God’s true character. The True Gospel, rooted in humility, service, and the recognition of God’s grace amidst suffering, offers a counterpoint that invites believers into a richer, more fulfilling relationship with the divine as they navigate the complexities of life. IS GOD A HUNTER OF FAULTS? BY APOSTLE JOYE FAITH & ABIMBOLA FAITH
The question “Is God a hunter of faults?” ultimately serves to illuminate the complex interplay between love and judgement within divine character as portrayed in scripture and theology. While classical interpretations may have emphasised judgement as necessary for moral order, contemporary perspectives increasingly advocate for an understanding of God that celebrates love as the defining attribute. This shift not only impacts individual faith practices but also reshapes community dynamics and societal values. In acknowledging both love and judgement, we find a more comprehensive understanding of God—a deity who invites us into a transformative relationship underscored by grace and accountability. Rather than focusing solely on divine retribution, this approach allows us to embrace the fullness of the divine narrative, a tale that champions love as the ultimate answer to human sinfulness. Thus, God is not merely a hunter of faults but rather a loving presence that offers redemption, accountability, and the promise of a renewed relationship with humanity. #TheologyTalk #GodsNature #LoveAndJudgment #CompassionVsAccountability #FaithDebate #DivineDichotomy #BiblicalInsights #MoralPhilosophy #GospelOfLove #GospelOfJudgment #SpiritualReflections #ContemporaryTheology #DivinityDiscussion #ForgivenessAndJustice #TheologicalExploration #UnderstandingGod #FaithAndEthics #PhilosophyOfReligion #ReligiousDialogue #SeekTheTruth #ViralTheology

THE ILLUSION OF MIDDLE CLASS IN RECENT NIGERIA BY YOMI SOWEMIMO, BASIT SANYAOLU, KUNLE J DANIEL & AYODEJI AKE
The argument of this session was that the purported existence of a thriving middle class in Nigeria must be viewed through a more nuanced lens. While certain demographic segments may exhibit some characteristics of middle-class living, the prevailing economic conditions, irregular income sources, declining purchasing power, and socio-political inequalities suggest otherwise. This reality serves to mask the deeper issues that need urgent attention: poverty reduction, economic diversification, and improvements in public services. As Nigeria moves toward its developmental goals, it is crucial for policymakers, researchers, and the public to recognise the complexities surrounding the middle class. Acknowledging the facade of middle-class prosperity will not only inform better policy-making but will also enable a more inclusive approach to addressing the underlying challenges faced by millions of Nigerians. Moreover, addressing these issues will require a concerted effort towards sustainable economic growth and an unwavering commitment to social equity. #Nigeria #MiddleClass #EconomicGrowth #PovertyReduction #SocialEquity #PublicServices #EconomicDiversification #PolicyMaking #Nigerians #SocioPolitical #IncomeInequality #SustainableDevelopment #InclusiveGrowth #DevelopmentGoals #MiddleClassIllusion #EconomicChallenges #NigerianEconomy #SocialJustice #ThoughtLeadership #NuancedPerspective #UrgentAction #ChangeMakers #FutureOfNigeria #Empowerment

However, by actively working to reshape societal narratives, challenge cultural norms, and promote healthier relationship practices, there is potential for a cultural renaissance that values love in its truest form. For African men, the journey toward genuine love may be fraught with challenges, yet it also holds the promise of emotional richness that transcends material concerns, laying the groundwork for a more profound understanding of intimacy in a fractured society. #AfricanLove #TransactionalRelationships #TrueLove #RelationshipChallenges #ModernAfrica #CulturalExpectations #SocietalPressure #LoveInAfrica #Intimacy #GenuineConnections #LoveDynamics #EconomicExchange #ContemporaryRelationships #AfricanMen #LoveConversations #SocietalFractures #ExploreLove #RelationshipsMatter

THE FUTURE OF THEATRE & LITERATURE BY DR CHRIS OMOTOSHO & MR FATAI ADIYELOJA
Kindly be aware that a large chunk of this file was lost due to being inappropriately recorded using different social media platforms to achieve this session. Due to the orientation and nature of the guests regarding the slogan "The Show Must Continue," I needed to release this short part that could still pass. Apologies, but I have written their thoughts in subsequent paragraphs. Looking ahead, it is vital to consider how Nigerian theatre and literature will adapt to the challenges posed by evolving social landscapes and technological advancements. The increasing availability and accessibility of digital platforms offer a formidable avenue for the dissemination of Nigerian narratives to a broader audience. Contemporary Nigerian writers and playwrights are leveraging social media, blogs, and digital publishing to showcase their works, making strides toward global visibility. Furthermore, as the influence of diaspora communities grows, there is an opportunity for cross-cultural exchanges that enrich Nigerian theatre and literature. Diaspora writers like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Dimeji Sodeke and Teju Cole effectively reflect the complexities of identity and belonging, bridging the gap between Nigerian heritage and global themes. The integration of traditional storytelling methods with modern technology can create innovative theatrical experiences. The rise of virtual theatre, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, has opened new creative avenues. Nigerian playwrights can utilise virtual platforms to reach audiences across the globe, ensuring that Nigerian narratives continue to thrive in both local and international contexts. Moreover, the future of Nigerian theatre and literature will likely be characterised by a stronger emphasis on collaboration among artists, scholars, and communities. Collaborations that span different genres and disciplines can foster a more inclusive arts environment, allowing multidimensional perspectives to emerge. Such an approach may also pave the way for addressing issues of representation in the arts, ensuring that various voices—particularly those from marginalised communities—are heard and valued. The theatre and literature of Nigeria hold a mirror to the nation's past, present, and future. Emerging from rich oral traditions and enduring colonial influence, these art forms have evolved into powerful vehicles for cultural expression and social commentary. The dynamic interplay of tradition and innovation defines the landscape of Nigerian theatre and literature today. As Nigeria navigates a rapidly changing global context, theatre and literature's role will remain vital in shaping national identity, driving social change, and fostering creativity. By embracing the challenges of the digital age and engaging with diverse voices, Nigerian theatre and literature can continue to thrive, resonating not only within the borders of Nigeria but also far beyond them, contributing to a richer and more inclusive global cultural narrative.

THE MERCHANDISE OF RELIGION- TOSIN OYEWOLE & MUYIWA OYEDELE
The merchandising of religion in Nigeria and Africa at large presents a complex interplay between faith, economy, and community dynamics. While some religious leaders prosper materially, countless followers remain trapped in cycles of exploitation and disillusionment. Jesus's sound teachings advocate for a faith centred on compassion, humility, and service—values that are often overshadowed by the lure of financial gain and commercial success. For religion to retain its authenticity and transformative power, it must strive to return to its roots. A focus on uplifting the marginalized, offering genuine spiritual guidance, and fostering community solidarity can help faith reclaim its rightful place as a source of hope and healing. As articulated in Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” Such a return to the core principles of faith could provide the antidote to the merchandising of religion that currently clouds the spiritual landscape of Nigeria and much of Africa. --#TundeKelani #MainframeProductions #Nollywood #NigerianFilms #NigerianMovies #Nigeria #Culture #FunkeAkindele #MercyJohnson #KunleAfolayan #LateefAdedimeji #OmowunmiDada #AdeLaoye #DeboAdedayo #podcast #Nigeria #intellectialism #Wolesoyinka #ChimamandaAdichie #DuroLadipo #HubertOgunde #ChinuaAchebe #Street #Cathedral

THE GAME AS IT STANDS-- JOHN ADOGA & MICHAEL OKEYA
The guests John Adoga and Michael Okeya delved deep into the realities of life on the streets of Nigeria presenting a multifaceted landscape characterised by resilience amid adversity. Urbanisation, economic disparities, security concerns, and inadequate governmental policies intersect to create a challenging environment for millions. Yet, amidst these struggles, a profound sense of community leadership and cultural dynamism emerges, which signifies hope for the future. There is an urgent need for comprehensive solutions that address the systemic issues faced by urban populations in Nigeria and across Africa. Robust policy frameworks prioritising poverty alleviation, job creation, and inclusive urban planning are paramount. Furthermore, countering insecurity through community-oriented approaches rather than punitive measures can foster safer environments. To support the everyday lives of individuals navigating the complexities of street life, collaborative efforts between government, non-governmental organisations, and community members must be cultivated. As Nigeria and the wider African continent continue to grapple with rapid urbanisation and its associated challenges, the experiences of those on the streets must be at the forefront of discussions, paving the way for a more equitable and inclusive future.

THE AFRICA WE WANT OR WE ARE?
The vision of "The Africa We Want" is commendable, encapsulating a dream of prosperity and unity. However, the stark disparities between this dream and the present realities of governance contexts across the continent cannot be overlooked. The guests in this conversation were from two parts of the African Continent, Mr Adeola Adebowale Morotito from Nigeria-West Africa and Ms Atamelang Free Adelaide from Botswana-Southern Africa. From their brilliant submissions, they were able to reveal the different realities that currently exist on the continent. JAPADA OR JASONU?; MIGRATE TO RETURN OR NEVER LOOK BACK?
The amazing guests on this interesting episode were Femi Akinwunmi and Layi Michael both from China. They both pitched tenth that migration of African youth is not a matter of choice but a forced outcome of the adverse conditions in their home countries. The complex interplay of socio-political instability, economic stagnation, environmental degradation, and disenfranchisement fosters an environment where youth do not just migrate – they escape. To effect meaningful change, actions must be taken by African governments and international stakeholders to address the root causes of this crisis and provide sustainable opportunities for young Africans within their countries. Through such concerted efforts, the narrative transforms from one of escape to one of opportunity and growth within the African continent.

NEED FOR A MENTAL EXODUS
The clamour for a mental exodus among the African youth is a clarion call for both Mr John Youhannes Magok, an expert on Mineral Resources Development at the African Union and Hon. Lekan Adejare a one-term councillor in Nigeria and former board member of Ogun State Television to speak on the liberation of the African mind. It calls for youths to seek intellectual independence, cultural reclamation, and self-sustaining innovation. NOT TOO YOUNG TO RULE?
The maxim "Not Too Young to Rule" as it applies to Nigerian politics, was properly discussed between the guest speakers Ojebola Matthew and Olasupo Abideen. The discourse oscillates between farcical optimism and grounding reality. While Mathew's stance pointed at legal frameworks which exist to facilitate the candidature of younger politicians, the systemic hurdles rooted in Nigeria's unique sociopolitical milieu present formidable challenges. However, Olasupo thought that they also offer opportunities for the rising youth to reimagine and resolutely transform the narrative through resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to the broader project of democratic deepening and leadership renewal. Only time will validate if 'Not Too Young to Rule' transmutes from a rallying cry to palpable actuality in the political sphere of Nigeria.
