    S3E1 - Kelsey's story: From losing her mobility to running the Manchester Marathon!

    Talking Salford is back!The flagship podcast from the University of Salford returns with a third season of stories celebrating the inspirational stories of our esteemed alumni.Our first guest is Kelsey Sheridan, who runs marathons in her spare time, but as a student at Salford, lost her mobility during her second year.The BA Musical Arts graduate was diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis, otherwise known as chronic fatigue in January 2016. For many years, she used a wheelchair or crutches to move around and in 2019, she took home the wonderful assistance dog Hamble, to help her with her day-to-day.Four years later, her life took a big turn as she started to regain the strength in her legs and she forced herself to learn to walk again. By April 2024, she took the big step to start running and never looked back.Nine years after her diagnosis, she ran and finished the Manchester Marathon in April 2025. We caught up with her for a chat during her training for this year's marathon to reflect on the last ten years of her life.Talking Salford is an official podcast from The University of Salford.     S2, Episode 11 - Energy House 2.0's Artist in Residence Special - Mishka Henner & Emily Speed

    We are back at MediaCity for a very special episode with the two leading artists in residence at the University's Energy House 2.0.In partnership with Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool and Castlefield Gallery in Manchester, the University of Salford's Art Collection is hosting two unique artist residences at Energy House 2.0 - a world leading energy performance research centre at the University.Mishka Henner, a Manchester-based artist who is known for often challenging conventional perspectives with his art, completed the first of the 18-month artist residences in 2024 culminating in the stunning 'The Conductor' piece which echoed the Energy House by channelling all the world's lightning strikes through a single percussionist performing inside a reverberation chamber at the University's Acoustics Laboratories.Emily Speed, an artist based in the North West, who is known for examining the relationship between the body and architecture, is the current artist in residence and is due to complete at the end of 2024.The work of both artists is in response to Energy House 2.0's research, exploring themes of the climate crisis, net zero research and the future of housing, with the works to be presented at Castlefield Gallery in Spring 2025.To find out more about the Energy House Labs here at the University of Salford, visit: energyhouselabs.salford.ac.uk Both residencies have been made possible through funding from the Friends of Energy House 2.0 Community: energyhouse2.salford.ac.uk/friends-of-energy-house-2-0/ Talking Salford is an official podcast from The University of Salford. This is a new official podcast from The University of Salford in which we interview some of the most interesting and celebrated members of our alumni about their time at Salford and how it has impacted their careers. For our first guest, we welcome back journalist and neurodiversity consultant Nick Ransom back to campus. Nick graduated from our BA Television and Radio Production programme in 2018 and has since gone on to work on a number of groundbreaking television projects including the BBC documentary Inside our Autistic Minds with Chris Packham. Nick found out he was autistic in his second year of University and went on to found the Neurodiverse Media Community group to make neurodiversity more visible in the media industry.
