Joshua Coburn - Purveyor of positivity
How do you turn life around when you first believed it wasn't worth living in the first place? What do you do when you have no other choice but to do for yourself? Whats its like searching for your fathers corpse in the freezing cold? All of these questions and more today. WARNING:This episode features sensitive topics like self harm, self abuse or the premature ending of life. Listener discretion is advised and supervision of younger audiences is encouraged.Joshua Coburn didn’t come out of a scene, a movement, or any kind of built-in support system. He came out of a small agricultural town in Iowa where working young wasn’t optional and standing out usually meant getting pushed to the side. He was the kid people described as responsible but strange. He started working early, moved through jobs that most people wouldn’t touch, and got heavily tattooed at a time when that still carried consequences, especially in a place that didn’t understand it.That tension shaped a lot of what followed. Coburn talks about how being visibly different in a small town environment led to isolation and eventually internalizing the things people said about him and into a point where he seriously considered ending his life, and what pulled him out of it wasn’t outside intervention so much as a shift in perspective. What looks now like a steady stream of positive messaging started as a personal system and deliberately choosing difficult paths, not out of obligation but because of the belief that that’s where growth actually happens. All this and more on todays episode of The Glorious BeardALL THINGS GLORIOUS: https://linktr.ee/thegloriousbeardGET 15% OFF YOUR ORDER at Men Matter and Co when you use the promo code GLORIOUSPOD at checkout. Santa Claus is here! The Glorious Beard episode 25
It’s Christmas time, which means things slow down a little, the lights go up, and for this episode, Santa’s pulled up a chair with us. We go for a walk through the history of Christmas, with Santa along for the ride, helping connect where these traditions come from and why they’ve stuck around for so long. The modern image of Santa, the red suit, the white beard, the whole thing, is a fairly recent invention, but the beard itself has always done a lot of the work. And since it’s cold out, we’re also talking about a newer seasonal trend, crochet beards. Our guest is professional Santa Claus Richard Crossman. Richard has spent years portraying Santa, working with families, events, and communities, and taking the role seriously as both a performance and a responsibility. He knows the history, the symbolism, and yes, the upkeep that comes with wearing the beard and the suit.So join us and Santa for this special Christmas edition, of the Glorious Beard podcast. #santa #santasbeard #gloriousbeardFIND ALL THINGS GLORIOUS:https://linktr.ee/thegloriousbeardEnter promo code GLORIOUSPOD at checkout when you visit menmatterandco.com to get 15% off your order. The Glorious Beard podcast Episode 24 - The Authors
Today on The Glorious Beard, we are looking at five authors whose work shaped different parts of literature. We start with Edgar Allan Poe, whose approach to structure and rhythm changed the way short stories and detective fiction were written. Then we move to Henry David Thoreau, who used simple, direct observation to build ideas that still influence writing about nature and society. From there, we look at Fyodor Dostoyevsky, a writer who focused sharply on moral conflict, psychology, and the pressure of circumstance. Then its William Wordsworth ... known for shifting poetry toward everyday language and close attention to the natural world. Finally, we finish with Stephen King, a modern author whose consistency and storytelling range have made him a central figure in contemporary fiction. All this and more... on this episode of The Glorious Beard. LGBTQ+ Beards, The Bearded Lady, Taxes, and The Civil war. - Glorious Beard Episode 13
The Glorious Beard Podcast Episode 13 Hidden Faces, Visible HistoriesTodays episode looks at how beards have served very different purposes across time and identity—sometimes practical, sometimes political, sometimes deeply personal. It’s about what’s underneath the beard, and what it means when the world decides who’s allowed to wear one.We start with the term “beard” in LGBTQ+ culture, where it’s used to describe someone who helps another person appear straight. It’s a quiet survival strategy with a complicated emotional impact, and it’s a part of queer history that often goes unspoken. We spend time with one of the most iconic female bearded figures in European history: The Bearded Lady, Clementine Delait. A French café owner who chose to grow out her beard and lean into it, and made a life and name for herself on her own terms at a time when bearded women were expected to hide. Then we take a step back into the 18th century and look at Russia’s beard tax. Peter the Great’s attempt to force Western-style progress by literally shaving tradition off men’s faces. From there, we head to the American Civil War, when facial hair became a kind of unofficial uniform. Beards in that era carried meaning—discipline, authority, masculinity—all grown out on the battlefield. All things glorious beard: https://linktr.ee/thegloriousbeardleave a voicemail on our speakpipe: https://www.speakpipe.com/GloriousBeardVoicemail#thegloriousbeardpodcast, #beardhistory, #lgbtqhistory, #beardculture, #hiddenhistories, #queerhistory, #beardedlady, #clementinedelait, #beardtax, #peterthegreat, #civilwarbeards, #historicalbeards, #lgbtqpride, #beardidentity, #pridemonth, #beardandgender, #queerrepresentation, #beardstories, #beardandpolitics, #beardandpower
