Why You Want to Work Out But Can't Make Yourself Do It
You keep telling yourself you'll work out, and then somehow, you don't. Before you blame laziness or lack of willpower, consider this: your resistance to exercise might have nothing to do with discipline, and everything to do with what movement has come to mean to you. In this episode, we're unpacking the real reason so many people feel stuck in an on-again-off-again relationship with exercise, where that resistance actually comes from, and how to start rebuilding a relationship with movement that finally feels good… on your own terms.Find Azul on Instagram (@azulcorajoria)Sign up for my newsletter (here) and receive tidbits of coaching every week from me (certified health and fitness coach) that will help you lead a healthier and happier life. If You Want This Time to Be Different, You Have to Be Able to Answer This One Question
Ever find yourself saying, "I've tried this before, and it didn't work," and using it as a reason not to try again? You're not alone, but that mindset is keeping you stuck in the same cycle. In this episode, we're unpacking why reflection feels so scary, how to look back at past attempts with curiosity instead of criticism, and why this one question is either your biggest obstacle or your most powerful tool - depending on how you use it. You'll walk away with a simple 4-question framework for turning any past "failure" into your greatest source of information so you can stop starting over and start building on what you already know. If you've ever felt like you're spinning your wheels and wondering why nothing ever sticks, this one's for you.Find Azul on Instagram (@azulcorajoria)Sign up for my newsletter (here) and receive tidbits of coaching every week from me (certified health and fitness coach) that will help you lead a healthier and happier life. The Science of Shame And Why It's Sabotaging Your Progress
Ever tell yourself that feeling guilty after eating "off plan" would help you do better next time? You're not alone, but that strategy is working against you. In this episode, we're unpacking the real difference between guilt and shame, why shame triggers stress (and cravings), and how self-compassion is actually a more powerful driver of change than self-criticism ever could be. You'll walk away with a simple framework for turning "slip-ups" into self-understanding so you can break the all-or-nothing cycle for good. If you've ever spiraled after eating a box of cookies or missing a workout, this one's for you.Find Azul on Instagram (@azulcorajoria)Sign up for my newsletter (here) and receive tidbits of coaching every week from me (certified health and fitness coach) that will help you lead a healthier and happier life. What’s More Important for Weight Loss: Nutrition or Exercise?
In this episode, we answer one of the most common questions I get: if my goal is fat loss, should I focus on nutrition or exercise? The answer is… both… but for different reasons. And understanding those reasons is the key. We break down why nutrition drives early results, why building muscle is essential for keeping fat off long-term, and how to prioritize your efforts so weight loss feels easier, more sustainable, and less overwhelming from day one.Find Azul on Instagram (@azulcorajoria)Sign up for my newsletter (here) and receive tidbits of coaching every week from me (certified health and fitness coach) that will help you lead a healthier and happier life. Is It Healthy or Is It a Disguised Disorder?
In today’s episode, we talk about how the pursuit of “healthy eating” can cross a line, and what happens when caring about nutrition turns into fear, rigidity, or obsession. We break down the difference between healthy eating, disordered eating, and eating disorders, why dieting is one of the strongest predictors of long-term harm, and how common these patterns actually are. If you’ve ever wondered whether your relationship with food is supportive or starting to feel stressful, controlling, or all-consuming, this conversation offers clarity, nuance, and a more compassionate way to think about health, without demonizing food, weight goals, or yourself. If you believe you might be struggling with an eating disorder, the most courageous, healthiest, and loving thing you can do is ask for help. Why Working Out is Hard & How to Make it Easier
In today’s episode, we talk about why exercise feels so hard for so many people and why that doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you. If you’ve ever assumed that working out should be easy, wondered why you can’t stay consistent, or felt discouraged when results don’t show up right away, this conversation reframes what “hard” actually means. Somatic Coaching w. Kelly Lazzara
Kelly is a somatic coach and educator. He works with clients to help them dialogue with their bodies so that they can immediately use their own sensory information to feel better now and in the future through compassionate self-perception and allowing for movement. He teaches via a combination of mindful movement practices, aka somatic movement, as well as theory in human anatomy, physiology, evolutionary biology, and Buddhist psychology. This Is Why You're Avoiding Exercise
I'm so excited to share this with you today! I recently had a REALLY uncomfortable moment at the gym. After not going for a month, returning was really difficult – but not difficult in the way that you might think. Sure, physically it was hard, but mentally it was SO much harder. …and it got me thinking about a big reason why I think people choose to not workout – or maybe start to workout, but quit shortly after. It's something I don't think we talk about enough in the fitness world (but we definitely should). It feels SO important to discuss, that I went ahead and created a bonus episode on it. So, let's dive into what's holding you back from working out. Emotions Are to Blame for Overeating 75% of The Time!
Emotional eating is a bit more complex than we once imagined. I too once thought it was as simple as getting rid of the food around my house, starting a new diet, or trying to muster up “willpower” to not do it anymore. Guess what all those things did? If you guessed, “Made it worse,” then DING DING DING you’re right. Emotional eating is an emotional problem. Emotional problems need emotional solutions, not food solutions. In today's episode, we're going to go over ALL the different kinds of emotional eating (yes, there are several) and list out their triggers and their solutions, so you can start to understand why you might be overeating and have some action steps to help you stop! “THIS” is Why You're Emotional Eating, not “THAT”.
Here's something a lot of people get wrong when trying to overcome Emotional Eating. They focus on the wrong problem. Eh? To simplify: You have primary emotions and secondary emotions. Your primary emotion is the first emotional reaction you have to any given problem (your intuitive one). Your secondary emotion is your emotional reaction to… your emotions. Whenever I'm working with a client who struggles with emotional eating, I often notice that they always focus on the secondary emotion, and therefore constantly find themselves in the same vicious cycle, never understanding why they keep arriving at the same place. In today's episode, I'm going to help you get out of that cycle. You're going to learn how to identify the RIGHT “problem” to focus on so that you too can hopefully start to overcome emotional eating! Levels of Nutrition - Are You Overcomplicating It?
Nutrition can get… complicated. BUT it doesn't HAVE to be. I think we often overcomplicate nutrition because we’re looking for quick fixes or we’re in this “all or nothing” mentality where we want the best of the best or else it’s not worth the “work." We'll try the weird adaptogenic mushroom elixirs that are $$$ and taste like s$!t or buy the $25 smoothie from Erewhon because we think they're the faster route to health or weightloss, but we won't take the time to learn the simple foundations that make a world of a difference. In this podcast, I offer you my framework, my approach to nutrition. It's how I rebalanced and simplified my own nutrition and it's the approach I use in my practice with my clients. Whether you're completely new to nutrition or feel like you know your way around nutrition, this episode has something for you. Want to be a guest or submit a question/topic? Crafting Your Own Eulogy - A Powerful Self-Reflection Tool
A eulogy is often associated with the end of your life, but in reality, a eulogy is simply a piece of writing that praises someone - and I use this activity often with clients as a tool for personal growth and self-assessment. In my practice, it's one of the many activities I'll sometimes use to help clients reframe and redefine their relationship with food and fitness. p.s. this episode includes an activity, so listen and save, or grab a journal and jump right in!
