Lauren Schultheis of WellWay in Plymouth MN joins us today to discuss integrative nutrition. She gives us tips on health and wellness from a holistic point of view - reminding us how our entire body is connected and her approach to helping clients involves taking a look at the entire body as one system rather than treating the body as separate systems. We discuss how her career came together, starting at Lifetime Fitness, then eventually transitioning to opening her own business with her husband and business partners and how they have expanded this to multiple different states with over 200 employees. I loved our conversation today because she gives really practical tips on how to be confident in the workplace, brave and bold as an entrepreneur, and balancing all of this while being a mom. Wellness Series Pt. 2: Acupuncturist Shannon Evans of Sundays Acupuncture
Shannon Evans is a licensed Acupuncturist and owner of Sundays Acupuncture in Kirkland, Washington. I connected with her initially on TikTok because she shares so much valuable content on her TikTok page regarding holistic health tips. Personally, I love acupuncture to help with acute issues and with understanding more about the connection throughout our entire body. Each system and each part of our body is connected together and acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is something I love learning about because it almost helps give me a definition of what is connected to the ailment I am experiencing. I love this quote defining Acupuncture: "Acupuncture helps nudge your body and mind over time to calm the overactive sympathetic nervous system—promoting the body’s innate healing."Today we talk about fasting for women and cold plunging, the vibration and energy of food, how to cycle synch.Other topics:FeversBirth ControlMasculine vs FeminineWorking Matrix for Corporate PositionsDifferences between MD and AcupuncturistThe Body Keeps the ScoreReasons to go to Acupuncture:Pain or Chronic Pain alternatives to pharmaceuticalsHormone BalancingDigestionAnxiety and DepressionAsthma and AllergiesMore! Shannon and I really agree on the fact that any issues that we have may be "common" but are not normal. And often times when we bring these things to a doctor, we get written off because it is nothing they can define, but Acupuncture can address the reasoning behind these things (say imbalance or blurriness) and eventually get to the root of it. Shannon loves working on the connection of psycho-spiritual work and how that manifests in the body. Find Shannon on TikTok @ ShannonPeggy Her website: https://www.sundaysacupuncture.com/

Wellness Series Pt. 1: Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Cassie Wilder of Minneapolis Integrative Medicine Center
Today we have Dr. Cassie Wilder with us - the owner of Minneapolis Integrative Medicine Center & a Naturopathic Doctor of Medicine! We are kicking off my health series where I am interviewing women in the health care space - but more so in the wellness and Eastern Medicine space. If you know me, you know that I am a mostly crunchy gal who seeks holistic health options in every way. I have deliberately found ways to be healthy using a more Eastern Medicine approach vs. an Allopathic Medicine approach and it has worked very well for me. That does not mean I don't respect Western Medicine methods, I just think there are more holistic routes available. Dr. Cassie Wilder offers Naturopathic Medicine at her clinic in the Western Twin Cities area of MN. She focuses on finding the ROOT CAUSE instead of just putting a band-aid on one issue. I loved this discussion because she shares what her clinic offers, how she chose this route of medicine, and why this can be a great career for women. She also shares with us some "Crunchy" things we should be considering in our lifestyle. "Her passion is empowering her patients through education, understanding, and support through their healing journey." This truly comes thru in this episode. If you are in the Twin Cities area, check out her new space in Wayzata for possible the MOST aesthetically pleasing doctor's visit you have ever had! Products range from posters to put on the wall, apparel, and stationary. I've always been intimidated to purchase art for my house because what if I don't like it in 3 months and it's so expensive? Family Farm Owner & Operator: Kenzie Schwieterman
Kenzie is working and co-owning her family farm in Indiana where they farm corn, soybean, and wheat. I couldn't wait to talk to Kenzie about this career because it has traditionally been a male dominated field. Personally, I view farmers as the backbone of this country and the work that they do is not recognized enough. We had a great conversation about what it actually entails to own and operate a large scale farm. It is more than just tilling and planting - it takes a great deal of business acumen and math! We also discuss how today's economy has greatly affected farmers across the country - I learned that the price of corn went down from $7 to $4 in the last 6 months alone! This discussion was immensely important because we often disregard what goes into farming and what it takes to get us the food we buy. Farming for women can really be empowering! Kenzie shares that she often surprises herself on physical tasks that she completes when it often is something that women would discount themselves from participating in.

Kenzie Higbee - Dental Assistant - Noticing Your Unique Interests & Turning Them Into A Career
Kenzie is a Dental Assistant in Charlotte North Carolina who shares who went through a 12 week dental assistant program. During her time in college, she was very intentional on taking a variety of classes and exploring different routes and options to understand and see what would be a good fit for her professionally. Her career started after completing a fulfilling mission with her church as a nurse licensure specialist for a company that helped nurses get their license here in the United States. This showed her that she was able to make a difference in someone's life & she wanted to make sure her career was meaningful and impactful for the clients and customers she worked with. This lead her to the dental industry as a dental assistant. In this episode, Kenzie shares the difference between a dental assistant and a dental hygienist because I was not sure! For her, the dental industry is a perfect combination of a desk job and the medical space. She loves that being a dental assistant allows a space for her to be a mom and raise a family with the job hours and days that is typical for this industry. This career is very family friendly and conducive for having kids. It can be 8 hour days, or 10 hour days, and 12 hour days. A typical career path for a dental assistant could be to pursue becoming a hygienist, a dentist, or even a medical device sales rep in the dental industry which is very common. I had to make sure I asked the question on everyone's mind: "IS IT GROSS TO WORK WITH RANDOM PEOPLE'S MOUTHS?!"She let us know her thoughts ! Kenzie also shares with us her couponing tricks and tips!! You can contact Kenzie on her LinkedIn here:https://www.linkedin.com/in/mackenzie-sorensen-144377174/ if YOU want to be on the podcast, please email me and I would love to interview [email protected] BYE!

Amy Edgren - President of Woodhill Financial on Wealth Management, Financial Advising, Corporate Insurance and Taking Over a Family Business
In today's episode of Working Girls Don't Gatekeep, we sit down with Amy Edgren - the president of Woodhill Financial. She is a financial advisor, corporate insurance advisor, and business owner! We discuss the flexibility that this type of 100% commission type of role can provide, as well as strategies to find and retain clients. To be an insurance advisor and to be a financial advisor requires you to take and pass tests, but doesn't require a specific education path. We also discuss what it is like to work with family. Her dad used to own the business and had a list of requirements for her to complete before she started working for him. I liked this because it showed her dad the type of commitment that she had to the industry and to his business. This is a very male dominated industry and women are really needed as advisors! When we think of who normally discusses money and financials and investing, we often think of men. This narrative needs to shift to encourage women to be in the ballfield of this and having a female advisor could encourage more women to step into the arena. This career path really allows for financial freedom, ownership of your schedule and time, and unlimited success as long as the passion is there. She also shares the importance of having a professional network. She has joined an accountability network who are in different industries and she meets with monthly to make their goals known and accounted for. Woodhill Financial is currently hiring another advisor in the Twin Cities area! Reach out to Amy if you are a fit and mention this podcast!
