Episode 68: A Heartfelt Goodbye with Kristin Hernandez Trusting God in the Next Chapter
In this special episode, Jennie sits down with Kristin as she shares that she is stepping away from her role as host of the Hope Mommies Podcast. Kristin has been a steady and compassionate voice since the podcast launched in January 2024, helping shape it into a space where grieving moms are met with truth, gentleness, and the hope of Christ. In this conversation, Jennie and Kristin reflect on the beginning of the podcast and how it came to life, look back on meaningful moments, and share how the Lord has used this season to deepen their faith. They also talk through Kristin's decision, what God is leading her into next, and what the future looks like for the podcast. They also speak honestly about change, how even good, God-led transitions can feel like loss, and the deep trust it takes to follow the Lord's leading when it's hard. While this is a goodbye for now, it is also a reminder that the same God who has met us in every episode has not changed. He will continue to meet us here. If you'd like to share a note of encouragement or say goodbye to Kristin, we would love that. You can email us at [email protected] or leave a comment on our Instagram or Facebook posts. Episode 67: Mother's Day After Loss: A conversation for the grieving mom whose baby is in heaven with Kelly Ransdell, Brooke Schuelke, and Jennie Parks
In this episode, Jennie Parks is joined by Kelly Ransdell and Brooke Schuelke for a thoughtful conversation about navigating Mother's Day after the loss of a baby. Mother's Day can be one of the most tender days of the year for grieving mothers. While the world celebrates motherhood with flowers, brunch, and family photos, many Hope Moms are quietly carrying the ache of a child who is missing from their arms. Together, Jennie, Kelly, and Brooke talk honestly about the tension of holding grief and joy at the same time. They share how the Lord has met them in quiet moments on Mother's Day, how our identity as mothers is not erased by death, and why Scripture offers a firm foundation for the motherhood of women whose babies are in heaven. They also talk about approaching the day with honesty and grace. From giving yourself permission to rest and grieve, to making simple plans for the day ahead, this conversation offers gentle encouragement for navigating a day that can feel both meaningful and painful. For the mama approaching her first Mother's Day after loss, this episode gently reminds her of something the world often forgets: Your baby's life mattered. Your love matters. And your motherhood is real. Even when your baby lives in heaven and not in your home, the Lord sees you, knows your story, and holds every part of your motherhood in His hands. Episode 66: When God Writes a Different Story Trusting God Through Infertility, Recurrent Loss, and Unmet Expectations with Julie Fowler
In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Kristin sits down with Julie Fowler for a deeply honest conversation about recurrent loss, infertility, unmet expectations, and learning to trust God when life unfolds far differently than we hoped. Julie shares her journey into marriage filled with anticipation for motherhood, followed quickly by heartbreak through miscarriage, years of infertility, failed fertility treatments, and failed adoptions. As friends around her grew their families, Julie wrestled not only with grief, but with comparison, feeling left behind, and disappointment with God Himself. She speaks candidly about how she processed those emotions honestly before the Lord and how Scripture became a lifeline when prayers felt unanswered. Her story includes repeated loss, including the premature birth and death of her identical twin daughters, Annie Grace and Kate Morgan. Through seasons of profound sorrow, Julie clung to God's Word, community, and the truth of God's sovereignty and goodness, even when circumstances felt crushing and confusing. Out of her own waiting and grief, Julie sensed God's invitation not to sit out, but to walk faithfully forward. That calling led her to found and lead an infertility and miscarriage ministry that has supported women and couples for more than two decades and has impacted families across the country. Now an author, speaker, and ministry trainer, Julie helps others navigate grief and disappointment with biblical hope and compassionate truth. In this conversation, Kristin and Julie talk about disappointment with God, the ache of watching life move forward for others while feeling stuck, and what it looks like to trust God with a story He is writing, even when it bears little resemblance to the one we imagined. This episode is for anyone walking through infertility, recurrent loss, or a story that feels painfully different than expected, and for those learning to trust God again in the waiting. Episode 65: Living in Holy Saturday: Grief, Faith, and Waiting on God After Loss with Kristin Hernandez and Jennie Parks
In this episode, Kristin Hernandez and Jennie Parks come together for a tender conversation about Holy Saturday, the often overlooked day between the cross and the resurrection. They explore what it means to live in the in between, where prayers feel unanswered, hope feels distant, and God seems quiet. Drawing from Scripture and their own stories of pregnancy and infant loss, Jennie and Kristin speak honestly about the tension of trusting a faithful God while carrying deep sorrow. They reflect on how Holy Saturday mirrors the experience of so many grieving mothers and how to hold onto God's promises in a story that feels unbearably broken. When our babies die, we are living in the waiting. We know what is coming, but we have not yet seen it. In that tension, faith is not the absence of grief. It is trusting God in the middle of what has not yet been made new. This episode gently reminds Hope Moms that waiting is not wasted, silence is not abandonment, and faith does not require rushing toward joy. For the mom who feels stuck in the middle of the story, this conversation offers permission to stay, to breathe, and to trust that God is still at work, even when nothing seems to be happening. Episode 64: How Can I Trust God Again After My Baby Died? with Kristin Hernandez and Jennie Parks
How can I trust God when the death of my baby felt like a betrayal? In this episode, Kristin Hernandez and Jennie Parks talk honestly about the challenges and peace that come with trusting and surrendering to God after the loss of a baby. How do we trust a God who allowed something so devastating? What do trust and surrender really mean—and how can knowing His character help heal what grief has broken? Kristin and Jennie unpack the definitions of trust and surrender, why both can feel terrifying after loss, and how understanding God's character is necessary to rebuilding confidence in Him. They discuss how trust believes God is who He says He is, even in pain, and how surrender responds to that trust by letting Him lead, even when we don't understand. This conversation offers biblical wisdom, relatable stories, and gentle encouragement for hurting moms to take small steps toward peace by getting to know God more deeply, naming their honest feelings, and choosing again and again to place their lives in His loving hands. Episode 61: Fighting Grief's Lies with God's Truth with Brooke Schuelke, Kelly Ransdell, and Kristin Hernandez
Grief has a way of leaving us especially vulnerable to lies of shame, lies about God's character, lies that minimize the magnitude of our loss, and lies that tell us we're a burden. In this episode, Brooke Schuelke, Kelly Ransdell, and Kristin Hernandez talk openly about the common lies many women face after the loss of a baby and how we can learn to discern truth from deception. Drawing from Scripture and personal experience, they explore why grief exposes us to accusations of blame and distorted views of God, and how the truth of God's Word equips us to confront those accusations with confidence. Together, they address specific lies such as: "This is my fault," "My body failed," "God is punishing me," "I should be over this by now," and "My grief is a burden to others" and share life-giving truth to counter each one. This conversation gently reminds grieving moms that their loss was not their fault and that God has not abandoned them. Episode 60: When Church is Hard: Staying Connected to the Body of Christ Through Grief with Eric Schumacher
Church can be one of the hardest places to be when you're grieving—and yet, it can be one of the most vital. In this conversation, Kristin sits down with author and pastor Eric Schumacher to talk honestly about when church feels hard, especially after loss. Together they explore why gathering with believers can stir both comfort and pain, how shame often gets tangled up with sorrow in church settings, and what helps us keep showing up when it would be easier to stay home. Eric shares from his own experience of pastoring through grief and reminds us of the beauty of being part of Christ's body—even when (or especially when) our hearts feel heavy. They also discuss: The importance of hearing others sing, pray, and confess when we're hurting How baptism and communion point us back to our hope in Christ Practical ways churches can better care for grieving families What it means to be "saved into a family" rather than a solo faith If being in church feels especially tender right now, this episode is for you. Episode 59: Identity After Loss: Grieving Who We Were and Finding Hope in Who We Are in Christ with Jennie Parks and Kristin Hernandez
Losing a baby doesn't just break your heart—it can shake your sense of who you are. In this episode, Jennie Parks and Kristin Hernandez discuss the ways miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss often reshape our sense of identity. Together, we reflect on the "before loss" and "after loss" versions of ourselves—the parts we miss, the growth we've seen, and the good fruit God has brought from deep sorrow. We talk honestly about the pain of change—how loss can affect our relationships, personality, confidence, and even our walk with the Lord—and how, even in all that shifting, our identity in Christ never changes. With Scripture and personal reflection, Jennie and Kristin remind us that while grief may change aspects of who we are, it doesn't change whose we are. Together, we explore practical tools for couples facing misaligned desires, navigating feelings of emotional and physical disconnection, and receiving support from trusted advisors. While this episode may be slightly more PG than our usual content, this topic is handled with the utmost respect, biblical hope, and a heart for helping married couples take steps toward the healing only God can provide. Episode 54: Our Story for His Glory: How our stories of loss can open doors for the gospel with Kristin Jackson
October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day—a day of remembrance, but also a day to consider how God can bring eternal impact out of even the shortest lives. In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, host Kristin Hernandez is joined by fellow hope mom Kristin Jackson to talk about the power of our stories and how the Lord can use them as a platform for sharing the gospel. Kristin Jackson shares the story of her daughter, Abigail Faith, and how God has used the story of her life to bring hope to others. Together, Kristin and Kristin reflect on how God comforts us in our sorrow and equips us to extend that comfort to others. They discuss the many ways our babies' lives can point to Jesus—sometimes quietly within our own homes and sometimes more publicly—and how moms can thoughtfully and gently, yet boldly share their testimonies of Christ's work in their lives. This conversation offers biblical encouragement, practical ideas, and grace-filled reminders that whether or not we share publicly, God is always at work in and through our stories. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month—a special time to remember and honor our Hope Babies, share our stories, and shine the light of Christ into the darkness. But what is the purpose of remembrance? What does Scripture teach us about it? And how might we remember not only our babies, but also all that God has done for us? In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Kristin Hernandez and Jennie Parks reflect on the significance of remembrance—not only as a way to honor and cherish our children, but also as a way to recall God's goodness and faithfulness in the midst of grief. Kristin and Jennie also share personal rhythms of remembrance, such as journaling, prayer, setting up "memorial stones," telling stories, and celebrating anniversaries. You'll also hear practical ways to commemorate this month, including resources offered by Hope Mommies throughout October. Host Kristin Hernandez welcomes Ashley Opliger—founder and executive director of Bridget's Cradles—to share how God lovingly draws near in our grief, cradling us in hope as He cradles our babies in heaven. Ashley tells the story of her daughter Bridget, who was stillborn in 2014, and how her loss became the catalyst for a ministry that now provides handmade cradles to bereaved families across the country. Episode 47: Lost Gifts - Recurrent Miscarriage and the Treasure of Christ with Brittany Allen
"In losing my three sweet babies, I was not left empty-handed. God filled my hands with his own nail-pierced hands. He met me in my grief and sat with me in the ashes. He will do this for you, too. You can know him–your suffering Savior. To know him more is to treasure him more. Jesus is not a consolation prize for the loss of your unborn babies.. He is the prize–the Treasure that surpasses all other treasures." - Brittany Allen, Lost Gifts In this tender and truth-filled conversation, Brittany Allen joins Kristin Hernandez to share her story of recurrent miscarriage and the deep comfort she has found in treasuring Christ above all else. Together, we explore why our culture often minimizes early pregnancy loss, and how we can better reflect God's heart through the language we use and the way we care for grieving mothers and fathers. With gospel-centered hope, Brittany reminds us that our highest purpose isn't found in motherhood, but in glorifying God—and that in our suffering, we're invited into deeper intimacy with the Savior who meets us in our sorrow. This episode is a compassionate companion for anyone grieving a miscarriage or stillbirth, or walking alongside someone who is. You'll be reminded that your baby's life matters, your grief matters, and most of all, Christ is near. Episode 41: Resurrected Hope with Rachel Lohman - Walking through Holy Week as a Grieving Mom
Rachel Lohman, author of Miscarried Hope, guides listeners through the events of Holy Week, drawing parallels between a grieving mother's emotions and the emotions experienced by Jesus' disciples. She explains how the stages of expectation, shock, despair, grief, and hope mirror the disciples' journey with Jesus from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday–through the excitement of His arrival, the agony of His death, the silence of Saturday, and the joy of His resurrection. Rachel shares her personal experiences with motherhood and miscarriage, how grief has deepened her dependence on Jesus, and the heart behind Hope Again Collective, a handmade jewelry line that helps women share their stories of loss. Rachel also discusses the significance of embracing the silence of Saturday, the permission to freely use the word "death" rather than soft alternatives, and the unshakable hope found in Christ's resurrection. This episode is an invitation to grieve with hope, embrace the truth of the resurrection, and trust that death is not the final word. Rachel Lohman is the author of Miscarried Hope: Journeying with Jesus through Pregnancy and Infant Loss and the founder of Hope Again Collective, a handmade jewelry line that shares the stories of loss moms and has donated over $13,000 in practical grief resources to women going through miscarriage or stillbirth. Episode 26: "God must have needed another angel" and other untrue "Christian cliches"
In today's episode, Brooke Schuelke, Jennie Parks, and Kristin Hernandez shine light on several untrue phrases that often circulate within Christian communities. Our hope for this episode is not to shame, but rather to lovingly equip Hope Moms and those who love them with truth that lasts and truth that comforts. We discuss the phrases… "God must have needed another angel." "Everything happens for a reason." "God won't give you more than you can handle." "Don't be sad. Just have faith." …and look to the Bible to determine what is true. We take a look at how these phrases, while well-intentioned, can be unhelpful and misaligned with scripture, all while encouraging listeners to be encouraged by what scripture says (we think you'll agree it's so much richer than the alternative phrase) and to correct with gentleness as a platform for the gospel. [Note: We recognize the aforementioned phrases are not truly "Christian cliches" as they are not biblical. However, we chose the phrase "Christian cliche" to reflect misconceptions we often hear within Christian circles. These cliches do not reflect biblical Christianity and we are honored and humbled to discuss what scripture says about each.] Links Episode 4:Grace for Hurtful Words Weep With Me -Katie Cobbs (Also available wherever you purchase or stream music) Hope Mommies Website Connect with us on Facebook Connect with us on Instagram Sponsorship The Hope Mommies Podcast is currently seeking sponsors for upcoming episodes.
