Alex has recused Adelaide and become the Best Firefighter Ever!   8-year-old Alex in 2012 was diagnosed with a brain tumour and unfortunately lost his sight.With the help of Adelaide his dream became a reality as he rescued his idol Port Adelaide Football Captain Travis Boak and Adelaide Crows Erin Phillips from a fire on the top floor of the iconic Haigh’s Building in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall. On 12 PM Friday, February 23rd, Mix1023’s Jodie & Soda managed to Make Alex's Day with the help of South Australia’s Premier Jay Weatherill, Adelaide’s Lord Mayor, SAPOL, MFS, SA Ambulance, Haigh’s and many more in Adelaide who were willing to help the cause. After four weeks of planning and the help of Adelaide his dream became a reality as he rescued his idol Port Adelaide Football Captain Travis Boak and Adelaide Crows Erin Phillips from a fire on the top floor of the iconic Haigh’s Building in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall. Jodie & Soda catch up with the man behind Mrs Browns Boys Brendan O’Carroll who reveals the cast is made up of entirely his family.“My sisters in it, my daughter-in-law’s in it, son-in-law and my wife’s sister producers it and in fact there’s twenty-two of us on the road and those that of us aren’t related are sleeping together!”O’Carroll also re-lived the moment Musician James Blunt kissed him during a show.“It was a very odd situation, when he came towards me and Mrs Browns started flirting and he started flirting back and then went in for tongue kiss!”“My wife said to me afterwards you must have got a terrible shock! And I said we’ll it was quite nice…it was a passionate embrace and I think he liked my kidneys!”

From Bridezilla’s under the influence to Groom’s wanting make-up for the big day, Jodie & Soda’s Whistleblower Make-Up Artist MJ takes us behind the scenes of the wedding industry.MJ revealed sometimes the dedication for a wedding day can be inspiring… “We rocked up at a house and noticed that one person was missing and the Bride said my Maid of Honour has gone to the hospital to have her first child, we went to the hospital to do her make-up and she rocked up to the wedding that is dedication” She also revealed that some brides were drink and take Valium before their big days and at times drugs have been consumed by the bridal party… “We’ve had a particular ‘white substance’ laid out on the living room table like it’s sherbet and my hair stylist tried to use the hair dryer to blow it away”

Adelaide Crows forward Tom Lynch announces the news of his third child and reveals his son Kobe also lives the rule ‘take care of your team mates’.Koby started school for the first time and got a little bit confused about the process or ordering from the school canteen.“He found out what the Canteen was so he obviously had no idea, him and his mates thought he’d go up and order a couple of icy poles, when crunch time came and they asked for some money he didn’t have any.”“The next day he rolled into school with a $50 he pulled out of his piggy bank and said ‘boys I got ya’”

Jodie & Soda speak with Andrew who’s worked on Cruise Ship around the world for over 10 years. He says that behind closed doors on a Cruise Ship are things passengers couldn’t never imagine. “I’ve walked into Cabin inspections and seen things that have scarred me for life” From alcohol, drugs and sex toys being common things people try to smuggle on board some passengers also have some very unusual requests. “We had one guest who would refused to use toilet paper and would order a lot of hand towels instead of using toilet paper”

Jodie & Soda heard the story of 8-year-old Alex who in 2012 who was diagnosed with a brain tumour and unfortunately lost his sight. Dad Phil said it was a visit to their doctor and a referral to Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital where they found out the news that change their lives forever.“They said Alex had a legion on his brain and it’s a large one! It’s about the size of a man’s fist and that’s in all likelihood that’s why he’s lost his vision is the pressure from a tumour that size is immense!”But things are looking up for Alex and the family.“The Chemotherapy and radiation therapy has stunted his growth he is very little for his age but he has started growing again and the results of his last MRI, upshot is that there’s no technical change on the legions they are monitoring so for a physical tumour that is the best possible scenario”Phil has been overwhelmed by the generosity of Mix1023 listeners who heard Alex’s story and wanted to him and the family.As he read a card from Monica & Brad who sent in a $500 donation, he became quite emotional.“I don’t even know what to say…wow! Thank you so much I don’t know what else to say”

Jake Weatherald scored the first ever century in a Big Bash final before a fine spell of bowling from Peter Siddle helped lead Adelaide Strikers to their maiden Big Bash title as they defeated Hobart Hurricanes by 25 runsPeter Siddle told Jodie & Soda it was an unbelievable win in front of a 40,732 crowd at Adelaide Oval and it led to some big celebrations!Siddle indicated whilst he’s not a big party animal some Strikers may still be celebrating on the streets of Adelaide.   “It was late night but I don’t drink so I think that’s why I have the duty of media chats this morning!”

Jodie couldn’t believe what Soda brought up in a recent planning meeting when he described what happen when his family decided to go on a relaxing holiday in Bryon Bay.“It was our first ever full family holiday with three children, the five-year-old, the two-year-old and the one-year-old for eighteen days that was 12-14 hours a day non-stop”Soda revealed to Jodie that he found spending so much time with his family extremely hard and eventually was making up excuses to try and escape.“I went through two packets of Aspro clear just inventing migraines so Mrs Soda would give me some peace” “For those people who say you should go on a holiday to Byron Bay because you chill-out and relax well you haven’t been with my three kids!!”

Jodie & Soda surprised Adelaide Mum Julie from Aberfoyle Park with a new Car for Christmas, the only catch is it's not for her.Julie nominated her son Luke for the new Hyundai KONA and was left speechless when it was announced during a live broadcast in Victoria Square that she had won the car for her son Luke.  "Thank you so much, I'm very proud of Luke he's a hard worker, he's a good boy, he deserves this"  22-year-old Luke said he's been struggling without a car for months and his Mum has been driving him to and from work."She's absolutely the best! A bill to legalise same-sex marriage passed the Senate on Wednesday in a historic moment in Australian politics,  43 votes to 12, and the moment was met with a standing ovation in the packed public and parliamentary galleries. Jodie & Soda catch up with South Australian Senator Penny Wong who says she is proud that Australians have pushed for the Federal Government to have the bill passed. “I feel really proud of our country today” “We should all celebrate, we should all take credit Australians as a whole, that’s what forced the Parliament to act”

Jodie & Soda catch up with Australian Media Icon Kerri-Anne Kennerley who reveals her our personal experience of sexual harassment in the media industry.“I was at a party once and the back of my dress was being unzipped”“As I turned to swing around and hit said person I realised it was a really really really important person in the network and I said zip it up or I’ll deck you”Kennerley indicates sexual harassment has been around in media since she first started and recent revelations of media personalizes like Don Burke doesn't surprise her.“Sexism, the discrimination and appalling behaviour went on for years…the difference between the 80’s and 90’s was there were no laws, so it is fabulous that a lot of women are acknowledging this behaviour because who wanted to talk about it before you more than likely got fired”“Having done a few stories with Don, I know about that and what I considered was unbelievably vulgar language and I’m not shrinking violet but even in those times it shocked me”She says her new book ‘A Bold Life-Kerri-Anne Kennerley’ also tells the story of the moment a tabloid magazine used her cancer diagnosis for a story. “I remember one particular time I was sitting on a plane on the way for the charity I opened up the Saturday Telegraph because I see a picture of myself…“Since when does having a cancer become an opportunity for publicity starved celebrities, money hungry agents or foundations wanting famous ambassadors and it was a full page about myself Kylie Minogue and I think Delta was in there… I was gobsmacked and angry for a very long time”

Jodie & Soda speak with Channel 7 Reporter Mark Mooney on an alleged plot by two teenage boys to massacre students and staff at a Riverland high school.Two teenagers a 16-year-old and 18-year-old had allegedly been planning a massacre at a South Australian school using knives and explosives, but their plot was thwarted when fellow students alerted police.Police believe there would have been significant casualties if the attack had gone ahead before the end of the school year. It's believed the pair had been planning the attack since June 1.Mooney says friends and family alerted police that the students were talking about the attack but it’s still not certain on the motive for the plot.“As you can imagine in a country town, that fellow students on Facebook are talking about why they think the kids were going to do this but at this moment we don’t have a confirmed motive”

Jodie & Soda speak with Whistleblower Wendy who's been a beautician for over 20 years and reveal what really happens in the waxing room... "Waxing down there is like looking an eyebrow to me I do more of them than eyebrows" "We had a young bloke come in for a wax, i popped the powder on and I turned to grab my wax and i heard 'erghh' and it was all over" Wendy reveals some people have some bizarre requests when it comes to with some piercings in unusual body parts. "I had someone who did eight piercings in one sitting because he was trying to beat his record and it was in the 'do de dad'"

Masterchef Judge Matt Preston is in Adelaide launching his new book "Yummy Easy Quick" and revealed to Jodie & Soda before his love for food he had a big passion for music! “I love music, I was a punk-rocker I spent time as a teenager being a DJ with my mate Jeremy, I know more about music pre-1993 than I know about food I’m weirdly obsessive”Preston says even though he's made many television appearances from The Bold & the Beautiful to Neighbours he still has a dream of one day being in a Bollywood film. "I reckon I could do a bit of Bollywood...probably not dressed as a woman but if I have to wear a Sari to get in a Bollywood I'm up for it"  Matt Preston's new book 'Yummy Easy Quick" out on sale ahead of Christmas.

Jodie & Soda speak with a UK Tabloid Journalist who reveals the extreme lengths they go to, to get a great story.Sarah says social media has been a great platform for many reporters to get a comment from friends or family when it comes to celebrity stories.“You might read in the paper ‘a friend says they’re an amazing person etc.’ in a story most of the time reporters have made fake Facebook accounts and coned their way in to being one of their friends and then before you know it you’re on their Facebook and can see what they’ve posted”She also explains that sometimes journalists go undercover to get a find out is a well-known Footballer had spilt with his wife.“I dressed up as a delivery person, knocked on the door with a parcel for the wife and when they said she didn’t live there anymore that was the proof we needed”

In Australia, an average of one woman is killed every week at the hands of a current or former partner. In the Adelaide metro area alone, South Australian police receive around 400 call each week on domestic violence matters, with 10% of these considered high risk. SA Vinnies CEO David Wark tells Jodie & Soda they are opening a Women's Crisis Centre to complement our existing men's shelter and support women with short term, emergency accommodation.Authorities often have no choice but to temporarily house women in motel style accommodation, where many make the decision to return to a dangerous and abusive relationship.Wark hopes the news facility will provide a safe place for women in Adelaide and hopefully will change the behaviour on many returning to unsafe homes. “The statistic is 8 times a woman will leave and go back before they make the hard call I’m out permanently”Located in the Northern Suburbs the centre is a 20 room facility anticipated to accept guests from October 2017 and will be staffed 24 hours, every day of the year. Jodie & Soda are joined by Australian Music Legend Paul Kelly as they celebrate his most recent album Life is Fine taking him to the top of the ARIA charts.The 10-time ARIA winner and ARIA Hall of Fame inductee says he has fond memories of growing up in Adelaide’s Kensington Gardens and tells the story of how he was born in a car just outside the Calvary Hospital in North Adelaide. “Just didn’t quite make it I was number six so I came out pretty quick!”

Soda couldn’t believe that he’s related to someone who was on the RMS Titanic when it sank in 1912.His mum Betts revealed she found out a few years ago that a long-lost relative survived the sinking of the iconic ship and it led her to start researching her family history."My Auntie by marriage was on the Titanic, she was 8 years old and she was deaf she was with her father so when they said, ‘all the women and children on the lifeboats’ her father was allowed to go with her because no one could communicate with her except him because she was deaf" “I have a fascination with the Titanic like some people do and there’s a Titanic Theatre Restaurant we were meant to go there last week you were in Melbourne but you couldn’t come…”

AFL Women's and Olympic basketball star Erin Phillips told Jodie & Soda she’s still emotional after the announcement of Australia voting 61.6% ‘Yes’ for Same-Sex Marriage and is excited on how it will change life for her family for the future. “Little things like being able to put Tracey on Health insurance right now it’s just me and the kids there’s a lot of separation with things here in Australia. There’s a lot of little things that will make our life a lot easier and happier” The AFLW champion and basketball legend married her wife Tracy Gahan, in Hawaii three years ago and said it may be awhile until they renew their vows in Australia but she’s thankful Australia is making the change. “To everyone out there who voted ‘Yes’ thank you from the bottom of our hearts, one more step to go!”

Jodie & Soda speak with Westminster student Abigail Wicks who along with fellow students have won the Year 10 section of the National Maths Talent Quest.Abigail says they used their own research and mathematical formulae to discover if Titanic’s Jack & Rose could have survived the sinking of the historic ship in1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean. “Using maths, we were able to find out if they both could have fit on the door and floated”“We found out if they put both their life jackets under the door they both would have survived” Abigail Wicks, Christy Zhang and Julia Damato from Adelaide’s Westminster School took out the national competition after winning their section of the state-based MASA Junior Secondary Mathematics Enrichment Project Awards.

South Australian Senator Penny Wong told Jodie & Soda they are on a mission to have the same-sex marriage bill passed by Christmas.“It’s a really momentous occasion to have a bill supported by the two major parties and so many people from the cross bench, the motion we passed also will require that bill to be dealt with by the Senate by the end of November 30, my word is we should all be working to finish this by Christmas”Whilst Senator Wong said she’s in no rush to propose to her partner Sophie but she hopes it will change the way Australians think for future generations including her daughters.“I think about our daughters Alexandra and Hannah and the world I want for them”“And the love and the commitment we have is seen for what it’s worth and not diminished in anyway and I think it’s about the country and the world I want for them”

Jodie & Soda chat with Whistleblower Renae who explains who she likes sleeping with married men and has done it for the past 5 years. Renae said she doesn’t feel guilty about seeing men who at times had a wife and kids at home who were completely unaware.“No I don’t feel guilty, I’m not after anything I’m just after having a bit of fun, I’m not trying to take him away from his wife I don’t want a relationship”Renae’s controversial chat sparked angry callers like Fiona who has known firsthand what it’s like for a woman to have an affair with her partner.“That woman makes me absolutely sick! Jodie has tracked down Australia’s professional racing driver Mark "Frosty" Winterbottom to give some tips to Soda and his Dad ‘Dr Phil’ who will be driving together in the Adelaide Rally 2017. Jodie was shocked when she heard the voice of her favourite high school teacher Frances Mann who she hasn’t spoken too in over 25 years.Soda tracked down the popular teacher after Jodie shared her fond memories of her time at Ogilvie High School and was left speechless when he surprised her with Frances Mann on the phone. “Oh my gosh! We were talking about teachers that have influenced our lives and I was describing you as this very glamorous P.E Teacher who took care of me…”When asked what kind of student Jodie was during her high school years Mann gave a glowing review of Adelaide’s popular breakfast presenter.“She was an excellent student, she had a bright and bubbly personality, she was obviously sporty and I particularly remember you were a very good gymnast I think you ever performed in the Hobart Mall at one stage then we went on for bigger and better things at the Casino for some education week”
