Changing the Narrative on Ageism and the Labels That Divide
Do you pay attention to your own self-talk? You might be surprised that when you do, it's full of judgment not only of yourself but others you don't even know. A common pitfall of our judgment is around our aging bodies and minds, and it's deeply ingrained in our psyche from a young age. Because of this internalized ageism, we make assumptions about what age means, what it says about the aging population, and how we are somehow doing it wrong. Ageism is present at every age and affects everyone. The good news is that it can be turned around with educated and intentional conversations full of curiosity and respect. To discuss the topic of ageism there is no better guest than Kris Geerken, Co-Director of Changing the Narrative, where she developed the Age-Friendly Healthcare program, including the production of the educational film Antidotes for Ageism. Kris also developed the toolkit for intergenerational conversations on ageism. Previously, Kris served as Vice President of the Colorado Center for Aging. How To Take Big Risks By Living In The Now
Let’s talk about taking big risks, shall we? They are terrifying! They trigger our primal brain so that we feel like we’re in real danger. It’s why most of us don’t take big risks or make big changes - because it stirs up all of the demons and fears we don’t normally deal with in our busy lives. But if there is a nagging feeling that something needs to change, and soon, chances are something needs to change soon! So today, I’m joined by fellow podcaster and empathic life coach, Linda Brand, to talk about her big risks, and the rewards that come when you jump, even when it’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done. Linda and I talk about why risk-taking is important, how to do it, and what it looks like in the messy middle before we fully embody the change. This is a sweet and inspiring conversation, and I’m so excited to share this wisdom. About Linda Brand: Linda is an empowerment coach and podcast host. She has been an entrepreneur for over 30 yrs. She raised a son as a single mom, she overcame a debilitating illness and overcame many challenges and trauma in her youth. She now serves and supports others through her podcast Empowered and is in the process of writing a memoir. She also changed her life back in 2022 sold her home and moved across the country with her rescue dog. Modern Feminism: Where We Were, Where We Are, and Where We're Going
I've been percolating for a few years now on the gender roles not only in our society but in my home. So, when Gloria Steinem's 90th birthday rolled around in March, I knew it was a sign to do an episode on Modern Feminism. So many women besides Gloria have thrown their passion and voice into the conversation and because of this, so much has shifted in our favor over the last 60 years. There is still work to do, but the question is what does the work look like now, and who is doing it? A little hint: If you are alive right now, this is your time in history to effect change. The future is counting on us to pick up the baton and run our leg down the field. I'm picking up the baton today with my amazing guest, Chloe Redmond, of Vino Vaquera Consulting. Together we talk about where we've been, what being a feminist looks like today, and how might that shape the future. This is an important conversation for all of us to have in our way. I hope this is an inspiration. Follow Chloe on IG @vinovaqueraconsultingAbout Chloe: Chloe Redmond is a leader in digital marketing, influencer partnerships, and social media management through her marketing agency Vino Vaquera Consulting. A chance opportunity in 2020 to work with Deepak Chopra’s wellness company, Chopra Global, left her with the understanding of how mindfulness and marketing can co-exist. Chloe is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs reach their purist potential through intentional and intuitive marketing practices. The teen years can be a wild ride! As parents, it’s our job not to make them even harder. It’s tempting to make it about us and what we want and need - which is usually feeling in control of their lives even when that isn’t the reality anymore. 5 Pillars That Turn Your Business Into a Brand That Connects
Calling all business owners and entrepreneurs! This one is for you. If you have a business then you know opening one is easy - all you need is something to sell, and someone to buy it, and voila you are in business. But to stand out in business, to find your perfect clients in business, and to thrive as a business that is a whole other story. To stand out, you need something called a brand identity. A brand is the personality of the company. Sometimes that’s based on the owner, sometimes the product but any which way, branding is what sets a business apart. It’s what makes your business different from any other business even if you do the same things as one or many other businesses. Good, effective branding is not a shot in the dark. It is a carefully curated process that helps you name what it is you do, who you do it for, and why you do it. The Power of Tiny Business How Strategic Minimalism Could Be Your Secret to Success
THE POWER OF TINY!Less is more. You have heard it, but are you living it? It sounds so good to simplify. To slow down. But so many of us aren’t living in alignment with our values and priorities around this. Do you dread your days? Do you feel burned out? Are you always pushing and trying to get to the next level? Or, maybe, you're just trying to get through another exhausting day. You might even know you’re in the wrong career and still do it anyway, giving most of your life over to it.And you do this because change isn’t easy. It’s scary and uncertain. What makes change so hard is giving up the identities that created our belonging professionally, in our communities, and with the people closest to us. But change is inevitable, necessary, and good. Today my guest is Lydia Lee the work reinvention coach, and freedom instigator at Screw the Cubicle. Lydia is a mid-career coach who helps professionals strategize what she calls a solopreneur freedom model. Freedom is the keyword here. Less, not more. She joins me today to talk about how to be a strategic minimalist and capture the life and career we crave the most right now. Hop in and let’s get simplified! How to Tap Your Confidence, Get Unstuck, and Move into Freedom
It’s important to be a valuable part of a community. But ask yourself, how much of what you're bringing to the table is about what other people want from you rather than what you want to give. Are you doing things for validation or are you creating from a place that's self-validating? Meaning, you love what you’re producing, achieving, living, and doing for yourself first.Prioritizing other people’s expectations at work or home, or even with strangers, is the fastest way to stifle our joy and real purpose. It can make achieving milestones and goals feel not so great because maybe they aren't the goals we want to achieve in the first place.Today I'm joined by career and leadership coach and TEDx speaker, Lena Athena, to talk about how we can tap into our personal value system to get unstuck and move into the freedom of meeting goals that align with our purpose.About Lena:Lena Athena is a career and leadership coach who helps mid-career women build surreal self-trust and cultivate a powerful and respected presence.
