Nonsense in the Chaos
by Jolie
This weekly offering is an exploration into the unknown, as I interview one of the many extraordinary people I've had the joy of meeting on this weird and wonderful journey we call life.Instead of having pre-planned questions, I pull three tarot cards, which we’ll discuss and share our insights on. This concept aims to support me and the listeners to learn to be at ease with the unknown, demonstrating how there’s something to gain from trusting the chaos of the universe.

#79 Beltane Blessings; Grounding and Landing Post Burning the Wickerman
This week on Nonsense in the Chaos, I’m talking about how strong, grounded, and genuinely supported I feel after this year’s La Beltane Festival here on Sark. The day began with absolute chaos... an unexpected torrential downpour just as everything was starting. For a moment, it felt like the whole thing might unravel. But the crew held steady, everyone pulled together, and we somehow ran a very smooth ship. Then, after an extra special blessing from Peruvian shaman Ben, the skies cleared and the sun came out for the rest of the day. It was truly magical.Since then, the land itself has felt different somehow. Blessed, open, and welcoming. As though by honouring her properly, something shifted. This episode is about community, ritual, resilience, and what happens when people gather with real intention. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #78 Love and Laughter; Saffron Issac and Thirty-Two Years of Friendship
This week on Nonsense in the Chaos, I’m joined by my best friend, Saffron Issac… a woman who has walked alongside me through more lifetimes than one.We met as teenagers in a Tudor re-creation and have been in each other’s lives ever since, from free parties and muddy rave fields, to sharing a home at the turn of the millennium in Brighton, to slowly, fiercely carving out our own lives and callings. We’ve witnessed each other becoming, unravelling, rebuilding. We even found ourselves side by side in the strange, tender world of IVF… her journey leading to motherhood and a now twelve-year-old, mine opening out into a different, child-free path. Two lives, equally full. Equally valid. Deeply intertwined. These days, we keep our connection alive through podcast-length WhatsApp messages (you know the ones), and in many ways, this entire podcast has become an extension of our conversations… with Saffron very much at the heart of who I’m speaking to.This episode is exactly what you’d expect… chaos, laughter, nostalgia, and a whole lot of love. A celebration of friendship that has stretched, shifted, and held strong through it all.Come and sit with us and enjoy an hour of eavesdropping on two old friends who just can’t stop laughing. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #77 Creating a Home and Tending to the Ancestral Fires
This week I’m sitting in the strange and beautiful in-between of arrival. A new home, new rhythms, new ways of inhabiting both space and self. There’s something about learning how to live in a place that mirrors learning how to live in a new phase of life… and right now, both are shifting at once.As I move deeper into the perimenopausal threshold, I can feel the stirrings of what I’m calling the ‘Baby Crone’… a soft but powerful reordering of priorities, energy, and truth. And weaving through it all… La Beltane Festival is just on the horizon. I’m looking forward to immersing myself in the weekend, celebrating the season and this gorgeous land, AND then being able to relax and enjoy the house and our new lives together after it’s all come together. Can’t wait for that bit!The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #76 A Spiritual Journey; Elaine Le Feuvre and Ways of Meeting the Menopause
This week I take a deep dive into the wild adventure that is menopause with my guest Elaine Le Feuvre.Elaine is a passionate advocate for the Red School, which teaches women to work with their menstrual cycles, and for the Wisewoman’s Journey through menopause, seeing it as a deeply spiritual rite of passage.Known across the Channel Islands for her work as an aromatherapist, Elaine has led a rich and varied life. She has lived in South Africa and the UK, returning to Guernsey in her 30s where she worked in the prison service before coming back to her roots as a holistic therapist. Her practice now weaves together aromatherapy, reiki, and her work as a qualified cacao facilitator. Her work is inseparable from her own healing journey. After experiencing severe menstrual symptoms since her teenage years, she had a defining moment when she discovered she was living with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), a cyclical, hormone-based mood disorder. From that point, she committed to understanding her body more deeply, exploring both holistic and hormonal approaches, and grounding herself in spiritual practice to navigate the physical and emotional intensity of PMDD.Elaine is deeply committed to encouraging women to share their hormonal journeys and reclaim their stories. In this episode, we also explore Wise Power: Discover the Liberating Power of Menopause to Awaken Authority, Purpose and Belonging by Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer and Alexandra Pope. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #75 Answers from the Universe; Trusting the Process
This week’s episode arrives straight from the midst of chaos… boxes everywhere, life in flux, and La Beltane Festival fast approaching. With capacity stretched and no guest in place, this becomes a raw solo transmission... an honest navigation of what it means to keep going when everything feels in motion. And, as ever, the universe answers. The rune that emerges lands with uncanny precision, offering guidance exactly where it’s needed. This episode explores how to stay open, how to listen, and how to trust what’s unfolding—even when the path feels uncertain. Because sometimes the answers aren’t found by striving… but by allowing.#NonsenseintheChaos #Podcast #NewEpisodeThe music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #74 Adventures in Geomancy; The Universe Set Me A Quest-I-On
There are moments when the path beneath your feet stops being metaphor and becomes instruction. This week’s episode traces the unseen threads that have been quietly, persistently guiding me... from pilgrimage roads to the shores of Sark, and deeper still into the valley we now call home. What once felt like a series of choices is revealing itself as something far more intentional — a conversation with the land itself.Geomancy, when lived rather than studied, asks something of you. It listens, it nudges, and sometimes... it sets a quest. In this episode, I explore the strange and sacred pull into place, and the growing sense that I’m being asked to step into service — to listen more closely, to read the energy of the land, and to discover what work wants to be done here. This is a story of arrival, alignment, and the first whisper of a question that might just change everything. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #73 Tell it to the Bees; Chris Parks and the Wonders of the World
In this week’s episode I’m chatting with the incredible creatrix that is Chris Park.Chris lives on an organic farm in the Vale of the White Horse, Oxfordshire. His work is wide and varied, from arts and craft, ancient technologies, experimental archaeology and educational projects, to eco-building, professional storytelling, folk music and raising the awareness of the heritage of beekeeping. He is a founder member of the Beekeeping History Trust, a skep beekeeper, skep-maker and a practicing Druid. Often seen extolling the virtues of mead, metheglin and other traditional honey drinks, Chris tries to live an ecological lifestyle, growing some food, fetching wood and spring water, living close to the earth. Around the fire, if the stars are aligned, he can be a purveyor of ageless words, a seeker of the world's most ancient truths, lies and everything in between. You might call him a mellifluous fabulist, an erudite druid or a cunning linguist… but put simply he's just a decent fella, and a good storyteller, with tales for young and old, the innocent and the experienced, garnished with delicious music and song. You can find out more about what Chris gets up to at; www.acorneducation.com www.livingbeeing.comThe music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #72 The Spring Equinox; Bringing Forth New Beginnings
It might seem counterintuitive, but this moment in time is such an incredible opportunity to be the best version of yourself and to do heroic things.Be the person who hid the family in your attic. Be the person who smuggled people through the checkpoint in the car. Be the person who kept squirrelling food away and who shared your last bit of bread. Be that person.Be the person that people are going to talk about in 50 years’ time... about what a courageous, awesome human you were because of all the bold and selfless things you did.Don’t let them control the narrative. Don’t let them create your world for you. You create your own world, and you create them into living in a world where they are facing justice and getting their comeuppance. Know, with every fibre of your being, that this is going to happen. This is a turning point in history. It will be remembered in 50 years’ time... in a hundred years’ time. We’ll be talking about this moment in time. What were you doing? What was your contribution? What did you challenge? What did you stand up for? What did you help to create? #71 Herd Time; Claire Cole and the Power of Horse
This week I’m in conversation with Claire Cole, who runs The Centre in Guernsey, where she and her horses hold deeply intuitive shamanic healing sessions. In her work the horses are not simply present... they are active participants in the process, sensing energy, responding to what is unspoken, and helping guide people gently back towards themselves. There is something profoundly moving about watching these huge, sensitive creatures mirror what is happening inside us.It feels like an apt way to open this new season... especially in the year of the fire horse. Claire herself carries that same quiet strength. She is a gentle, gorgeous soul with a real powerhouse energy behind her work, and our conversation wandered through the magic of horses, the nature of healing, and the unexpected ways transformation can appear when we slow down enough to listen. It was a joy to sit down with her, and a beautiful way to begin the next chapter of the podcast. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #70 Let the Sunshine in!
Nonsense in the Chaos is back! It feels so good to be back behind the microphone. I’ve missed you all. This week I discuss how I can feel the old stories cracking. Institutions are wobbling, certainty is dissolving, and the world feels increasingly unreal. The question becomes: how do we live truthfully inside the chaos?I’ll explore power, myth, creativity, spirituality, and the courage to think differently. Time to move beyond outrage and into action. Not by fighting every battle, but by making your own pixel bright: choosing beauty, kindness, imagination, and integrity in a world that often rewards the opposite. This is the hour to be bold, provocative, mythical, and journey into the stories of the land — dragon energy, ancient symbols, creative awakening, and the quiet revolution of reclaiming meaning for ourselves. The systems may be shaking. Good. #69 Entering the Radiance of a Ten Year
The final episode of Nonsense in the Chaos for Season Two is a pause at the threshold. As Yule tide gathers us inward, this week’s episode explores the numerology of the coming year: a universal ten, the number of the radiant body, the moment in the alchemical process when lead is turned into gold. This is a conversation about community, about scale, and about agency. When the bigger picture feels overwhelming, there is still the work to do on our own pixel, making it as bright, clear and generous as it can be. That, in itself, is a powerful action.I’ll be stepping away after this episode for a digital detox and some much-needed Creation Hibernation time, returning in March. Until then, this feels like a hand on the shoulder and a steadying breath. We’ve got this. And next year asks us to step up. Not alone, but together. And can we just take a moment to enjoy the fact that I’m ending the season on the number 69. No, I will not grow up. See you back here in March 2026. #67 It Really is a Wonderful Life
This week’s podcast weaves together the quiet magic of legacy, continuity and the unseen threads that connect us. In It’s a Wonderful Life, George Bailey never becomes wealthy or achieves the grand future he imagined. Instead, he receives something far greater: perspective. He’s granted the rare gift of witnessing the impact of his existence—the threads tying him to every life he’s touched and the ripples he’s left behind. This week’s episode turns that lens towards the real world as I say goodbye to a friend who has passed away and reflect on a life well lived. A lifetime is only one link in a long chain of past and future lives, an opportunity to shape the world with whatever gifts we carry before handing the baton over to the next one. We are each part of the great symphony of life, and every note—no matter how humble—is vital to its glorious crescendo.CORRECTION: I talk about the Capricorn Dark Moon in this episode, but it was actually a Sagitarius Moon. It snuck in at the 28th degree. The Capricorn Dark Moon won't be until the 18th January. Join me then for the online ceremony to create our 2026 iconostasis. #66 Church of Burn; Jonathan Harris and the Ritual of Burning Money
#66 Church of Burn; Jonathan Harris and the Ritual of Burning MoneyEpisode #66 dives into the Church of Burn with Jonathan Harris, its Reverend and creator of a movement that treats money not as a master but as a material for ritual transformation. Is it art-magic, a cult, a new form of religion, or something stranger? The Church calls itself a gathering around a sacred act: the literal sacrifice of money to expose its power, its mythology, and its grip on our bodies and imaginations.Jonathan speaks about the shock, fascination and moral challenge their rituals provoke, and why burning money offers a direct, visceral encounter with the Old God of capital. Through collective loss, the Church explores generosity, sovereignty, and the possibility of loosening money’s hold on our lives. This conversation unpacks the politics, philosophy and raw somatic experience at the heart of a practice that stands on the edge of art, spirituality and rebellion.https://churchofburn.org@churchofburnThe music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #65 ‘She Who Eats Filth’ and the Duality of Light and Dark
What’s the treasure at the heart of your life right now, and what do you feel called to make in the coming year?Three things steadied my nerves this week. First was The Emerald episode ‘Carry That Weight: On Mythic Burdens and Cosmic Supports’, where Joshua speaks of the old comfort in believing something larger could hold the weight of the world for you. It stirred a deep memory of how light life once felt when I carried that belief. Then I drew an oracle card: Tlazolteotl, the eater of filth, the cleanser of what weighs us down. She appeared just as I was spiralling about my to-do list, and her presence cut through the self-punishment.And finally, I stumbled upon the Church of Burn, with its wild promise to “guide you toward an experience of the ritual sacrifice of money.” Their approach flips my long-held patterns on their head, and something in me lit up at the possibility. As we move towards 2026 — a ‘10’ year — the call is to step into our most expansive, radiant selves. This is the moment to alchemise the muck and mess into gold. With Sagittarius now in the skies, there’s a fire up our backsides, urging us to dream with real audacity as we cross the threshold into a new year. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #64 The House of Broken Bricks; Fiona Williams on honouring the Landscape and a Sense of Identity
This week on Nonsense in the Chaos we follow the thread from Somerset to Exeter to meet Fiona Williams, author of House of Broken Bricks and partner of Joe, the builder from episode #58. Joe grew up in Burrowbridge with his twin brother Jason, and it was clear from meeting them how deeply the Levels run in their bones. Fiona carries that same connection, and channels it onto the page with remarkable clarity. Her novel captures the Somerset Levels with a tenderness that feels tactile. Mud, reeds, light, memory… All held with the same depth of care found in Braiding Sweetgrass. Reading her book had me laughing at the scenes of lost hikers pacing back and forth looking for the footpath (a very familiar experience), and wiping away tears more than once. Her writing is extraordinary, easily some of the finest I’ve encountered. She also talked about her PHD and forthcoming work, in which she traces how folk tales act as living records, shaped by the people who work the land and the land that works on themMercury Retrograde played its usual games during recording. A first attempt disappeared into the ether, and the second—this episode—picked up the occasional echo on my voice. I’ve reduced it as much as possible. The conversation still shines, and meeting Fiona was a complete delight.Settle in for an episode rich with story, landscape and the quiet power of a writer who listens closely to the land beneath her feet. You can find out more about Fiona's work @fionawilliamswritesThe music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #63 Mercury Retrograde and Dealing With the World of Chronos
I’ve been having an absolute technical meltdown recently... computers freezing, files disappearing, batteries dying mid-sentence — all the classic signatures of Mercury Retrograde. It’s that trickster energy again, reminding me that control is an illusion and timing isn’t always mine to command. In this episode, I want to explore what happens when the universe presses pause — when the messages don’t send, the plans fall apart, and we’re forced to stop running by the clock of Chronos time. That rigid, linear, ever-ticking structure we try to live within — deadlines, meetings, calendars — can feel like a cage when Mercury decides to pull the rug out from under us.But maybe, just maybe, that chaos is an invitation. A doorway into Kairos time — the sacred, intuitive rhythm of the soul. The time of right moments, not scheduled ones. The time that pilgrimage teaches us to trust. Because on pilgrimage, the body moves slowly, the world widens, and meaning arrives when it’s ready, not when you demand it.We’ll wander through what it means to surrender to necessity — not what you want to do, but what life is asking you to do. We’ll look at the shadows that surface when everything stops working, the discomfort of not knowing, and how those breakdowns are sometimes the exact medicine the moment requires. So if you’ve been feeling tangled in delay, disarray, or just plain stuck — join me. Let’s step together out of the anxious tick of Chronos, into the wild, luminous now of Kairos, and find what’s waiting for us in the stillness Mercury leaves behind. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #62 Homeward Bound; Graham Joyce and Pilgrimage Integration
I’m back home — the pilgrimage dust barely settled on my boots — and already I find myself arms-deep in scrubbing the pub toilets, as reality swoops in to claim me once more. The rhythm of Chronos time, that steady, ticking, relentless measure of the everyday, has returned in full force. After weeks of sacred wandering and timeless flow, I’m suddenly back in the hum of normal life, where the clock rules and the mythic gives way to the mundane. Before leaving the pilgrimage, though, I had the chance to sit down with someone who understands this transition all too well — Graham Joyce, a seasoned pilgrim who led a group of nine along the very same Michael Line we’ve just completed. Graham has spent years exploring these ancient energy paths — the Michael and Mary lines that weave through the landscape like luminous threads — and his insight brings a rich depth to everything we’ve experienced on our own journey. In our conversation, we delve into the mysteries and meanings of these sacred lines, the subtle ways they seem to shape both the land and the human spirit. We talk about the transformative effects of walking with intention — what it stirs, what it heals, what it breaks open — and how to carry that transformation back into ordinary life without losing the magic. This episode is a bridge between worlds: the mythic and the mundane, sacred time and clock time. It’s an invitation to remember that even as we return to our routines, the pilgrimage continues within us — in every act of devotion, every moment of awareness, even, perhaps, in the quiet ritual of scrubbing the pub toilets. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #61 Pilgrimage for Peace; Week Eight and What Have We Learnt?
It’s the end of our eight-week Odyssey — a journey that has taken us across landscapes both outer and inner — and we are feeling all the feels. The road behind us is heavy with stories, laughter, tears, revelations, and quiet moments of grace. Now, as the dust settles beneath our boots, it’s time to pause, reflect, digest, and begin to integrate everything that has unfolded along the way.In this closing episode, I sit down with each of the pilgrims who have shared this path, listening to how the experience has shaped and changed them — what they’re taking home, what they’re leaving behind, and how the journey continues to ripple through their daily lives. We also hear from friends and supporters who’ve been following from afar, offering their own perspectives on what it means to witness a pilgrimage in motion. To round off this chapter, we’re joined by Graham Joyce, who back in 2008 walked the Michael and Mary lines — those ancient, serpentine energy paths that so many of us still feel pulsing beneath the land. His reflections bring a sense of continuity and deeper context to our own walk, linking past and present seekers along the same luminous threads. The full conversation with Graham will be released in a later episode, but for now, join us in this tender closing circle — a space to breathe, remember, and honour the magic of what has been an unforgettable pilgrimage. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #60 Pilgrimage for Peace; Week Seven and What Gives You Hope?
In this week’s episode of Nonsense in the Chaos, we’re walking with an open heart and a simple, shining question: What gives you hope?As we travel together along winding paths and through shifting weather, I ask each person who joins me on the walk to share what helps them keep faith in the world — what lights the way when things feel uncertain or heavy. Their answers are beautiful, tender, and deeply human, revealing the many different ways hope takes root in our lives. You’ll hear from Helen Melon, Gemma Rogers, @Francesca_way_lvx, @jenway33, @Dansumption, Dill Hill, and @fernwood_remedies — a chorus of voices offering wisdom, humour, and honesty from the road. And along the way, we stumble upon the wonderful Rob, landlord of the Orange Tree pub in Baldock, who reminds us that community and kindness are their own kind of hope. It’s a gentle, grounding episode — a walk filled with stories, laughter, reflection, and the small yet powerful sparks of hope that connect us all, even in the midst of chaos. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #59 Pilgrimage for Peace, Week Six and What Would You Ask Peace?
This week’s episode turns inward, toward one of the deepest and most elusive companions on any journey — Peace. As we walk together through shifting weather and landscape, I pose a simple yet profound question to everyone who joins me on the path: If Peace were a living being, an entity you could meet face to face, what would you ask? What would you say?The answers unfold like poetry — honest, surprising, and at times raw. Some imagine Peace as a quiet friend they long to embrace again, others as a distant figure they’re still learning to trust. Through laughter, reflection, and silence, we begin to sense how Peace reveals itself differently to each of us: in the rhythm of our footsteps, in the wind through the trees, in moments of surrender and stillness. This episode is a weaving of voices, a collective meditation on what it means to seek Peace not as an abstract idea, but as a presence that walks beside us — sometimes hidden, sometimes radiant, always waiting to be recognised. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #58 Pilgrimage for Peace; Week Five and the Meeting of Land Magic and Sacred Stones
This week we journey through sacred circles of land magic, ancient stones, and the guiding light of the moon. With the fiery Aries full moon rising on the horizon, I explore its energy and what it stirs within us — courage, initiation, and the call to act. I’m joined by my fellow pilgrim and creative soul, Francesca, as we reflect on how this potent lunar moment weaves with our ongoing paths of pilgrimage, creativity, and connection to the earth. Along the way, I walk and talk with friends who join us for a day’s wandering, sharing stories and insights as we unpick what the land, the stones, and the sacred sites mean to each of us — how they speak, heal, and hold memory. It’s an episode of conversation, contemplation, and communion with the living landscape. #57 Pilgrimage for Peace; Week Four and its Tales from the Cookie Jar
This week on Nonsense in the Chaos we move through the gentler landscape of Somerset, where the walking feels easier and the encounters kinder. After some heavy days earlier in the journey, this stretch offers welcome moments of connection with people who feel instantly familiar.Up until now a tough theme has kept re-surfacing: the unsettling rise of racism and fascism appearing in everyday conversations. One minute it’s small talk about the weather; the next, a dropped name reveals just who influences the person and how far the hatred has spread. But Somerset also brings bright spots. We meet two sharp, thoughtful builders who speak openly about what they’re seeing in their own communities. One has even left his home town after his mixed-heritage son was attacked post-Brexit. He calls the growing hostility “Chavageddon”—a darkly comic phrase with real weight behind it.Despite everything, hope holds steady. It shows up in the warmth of strangers, in honest conversations and in the simple relief of meeting people who refuse to be pulled into the tide.Join us for a week shaped by humour, clarity and the connections that make the road feel a little lighter. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #56 Pilgrimage for Peace; Week Three and the Great Chagford 'Mum-Off'
History was made this week in the great Chagford Mum-Off! Our Strolling Mummers away team clashed with the Chagford Mummers on their home turf. They grabbed the win (a total fix – we were robbed blind, I tell thee!). Between bouts of theatrical skulduggery we stayed with Howard and his partner Terri – my soul sister – plus the ever-glorious Lottie the dog. Rainbows, laughter, and Devon’s red soil carried me back to the spirit of pilgrimage with my old companions from the long road to COP26 in 2021.The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #55 Pilgrimage for Peace; Week Two and the Complexity of Humanity
In this week’s episode, the four of us walking the full route share what the pilgrimage means to us and what we’re learning along the way. You’ll also meet two strikingly different characters – both pagans, yet seemingly from opposite ends of the spectrum. They cared for us, they’re our friends, and they’re kind and generous, yet I don’t agree with some of their views. You may even find parts of our conversations shocking. These perspectives keep surfacing, though, and we have to ask: how do we navigate them? It can’t always be finger-pointing or cancelling. How do we move towards peace? As pilgrims, our role is to listen, not to preach. What fascinates me most is how people can live in such vastly different realitiesThe music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #54 Pilgrimage for Peace, Week One; Thor, and a Tale of Wet Weather
I've had an absolute nightmare trying to pull this together whilst on the road. The phone software is temperamental, to put it mildly, so I've lost or corrupted several edits. Hence the late release date, but it's here now. And I've the hang of things now. It has been an extremely soggy start to the pilgrimage, but we've also enjoyed days of sunshine and experienced incredible generosity from people who've put us up, fed us, washed our clothes and given us beds for the night. This first week has mainly been focused on working out what we're doing, getting to know each other, learn the play, set our intentions and get into the flow of the pilgrimage. It's a lot harder than I remember. But it's still the greatest privilege. To be on the road, with such wonderful company, walking in Kairos time. The rain has not dampened our spirits. Huzzah! If you're able to support me on this Pilgrimage for Peace that would be amazing. #53 The Year Anne Boleyn Died; 1536 at Kentwell Hall
This week we slip through time to the year 1536, the fateful year Queen Anne Boleyn was executed, as Kentwell Hall once again bursts into life with its magnificent Tudor re-creation. For decades, this extraordinary gathering has welcomed hundreds of history buffs to step into the shoes of ordinary folk and high-born gentry alike, and this year’s happenings were as rich and wild as ever.In this episode I capture the flavour of Kentwell: the dubious cures for syphilis being hawked by earnest ‘physicians’, the dangerous sparks of alchemists attempting to make gunpowder, and the rowdy activity of arse-wrestling, well oiled of course. But beyond the mischief and merriment, it’s also about the people. Catching up with cherished friends, fellow historians, and Kentwell enthusiasts who together weave this living tapestry of Tudor England.Come walk with me through the stillrooms, the brewers, the bakers and the alchemists, where history is not simply remembered but lived, argued, sung, and wrestled with. Kentwell is never just re-enactment – it’s a world apart, and for a brief moment, the year 1536 is as real as our own.The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #52 The Power of Now; La Luna Coven and our time at Boomtown
This episode is all about Boomtown 2025, and the story we wove there in the La Luna Coven. Boomtown’s theme for next year is Radical Redesign, but this year, we were already living it. We built a time machine, travelled with a crystal through past and future, and dreamt up a world where difference is celebrated, technology and nature work in harmony, and everyone thrives.I’ll be sharing what happened inside our Coven at Old Town, the visions we imagined with the festival-goers, and what it felt like to open the Lion’s Gate stage before tens of thousands of people, calling in the Guardians of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, the Horned God and the Great Goddess. This is a story about imagination, resistance, and hope. It’s about stepping away from fear and towards love, every step of the way.So come with me, into the chaos of Boomtown, and discover what a Radical Redesign of the future might really look like.I'm off on pilgrimage soon! #51 Rebellious Strength; Fighting for Fairness and Equality
In this episode, I’m speaking from the heart about my fight for fairness and equality—not just in politics or policy, but in everyday life. I talk about what it means to stand up when it’s uncomfortable, to challenge systems that are built to exclude, and to keep showing up even when the odds feel stacked. I also explore how easy it is to be blind to our own privilege, and how real change starts when we’re willing to examine the power we hold. And yes, I even make a case for tax. I believe paying tax is a good thing, a sign that we care about each other, that we believe in services, support, and shared responsibility. This episode is a rallying cry for those who still believe in building a fairer world, one small, stubborn act at a time. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #50 Making Friends with Plants; The Seed Sistas and the Healing Power of Herbalism
For this special 50th episode, I’m joined by the incredible Seed Sistas – two dear friends who have profoundly shaped my understanding of magic, health, vitality, and the deep, reciprocal relationship we can cultivate with the natural world.Forming friendships with wild plants has been a cornerstone of my pilgrimages. As I’ve walked across the UK, these living beings have offered me company, wisdom, and wonder. With them by my side, I’ve never felt alone. This way of experiencing the world has become utterly precious to me – a source of joy and transformation that I couldn’t now imagine life without. It has also taught me a profound empathy for indigenous peoples who witness the destruction of their more-than-human kin – trees, plants, animals – and feel that loss as we would a friend or family member. All life is sacred. All relationships matter.I absolutely adore the way the Seed Sistas see the world, and it’s a true privilege to introduce them to you. These visionary, warrior women bring so much wisdom, humour and heart – and I can’t wait for you to meet themseedsistas.co.uk@seed_sistasThe music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #49 Letting the Universe Lead & Trusting the Unknown
During this week’s podcast, I reflect on the adventure that unfolds when I let the universe lead and trust the unknown. I explore the lessons of Mercury Retrograde, tune into Kairos time, and speak on the importance of keeping my nervous system regulated by trusting the process — especially as I head into a season where everything seems to be happening at once. How do I disrupt the old narratives, stay organised, meet my responsibilities, earn money, and nurture my relationships — all at the same time?It is possible, if I stay calm and trust that all will be well. And all will be well, if I create it to be so.So mote it be.The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #48 Language is Power; Ray Howard and Revealing Reality Through Grammar
This week on Nonsense in the Chaos, I finally sat down with someone who's become a bit of a mystery and a marvel to me over the past few years: Ray Howard. When I first heard of Ray, he was introduced with a wink and a grin as “the island’s hobo.” That label never sat quite right with me – and after our conversation, I know why. Behind the weather-beaten clothes and wandering spirit is a razor-sharp mind with a deep curiosity for the unseen structures that shape our world.Ray is, in truth, a travelling intellectual. Though often spotted on Sark, he’s mainly based in Oslo and has an intense fascination with the mechanics of linguistics – not just how we speak, but what our words hide, what they reveal, and how meaning lives between the lines. Our chat spiralled into the philosophy of language, the layers beneath conversation, and the strange, shifting relationship between truth and perception. It wasn’t just a talk – it was a peeling back of the layers of meaning. Ray’s mind dances between ideas like stepping stones, and I found myself running to keep up. In the best way.If you’re into language, travel, or challenging assumptions, this episode is for you. And if you've ever passed someone off with a label – even playfully – this one might just make you look again.#47 Let’s Kick this Reality to the Curb & Be the 51%I’m feeling rebellious, disruptive, and fed up with the status quo. #46 Rolling with the Future; Roz Rolls and a Vision of Hope
I was absolutely thrilled to interview Roz Rolls this week, fresh off the boat from New Zealand and back on Sark for a visit. Roz is genuinely one of the coolest, most inspiring people I’ve ever met. We first connected around the fire at the Nook—our little sacred spot on the island where we gather under the stars and watch the sunset.Meeting her felt like being welcomed into a circle of wise elders—something I’ve had the honour of experiencing a few times in my life—and I was instantly drawn to her. She carries this deep, grounded knowledge that spans the spiritual, political, and scientific realms, and speaking with her was both eye-opening and uplifting.I didn’t know where the conversation would lead, but I knew it would be special—and Roz didn’t disappoint. #45 Glastonbury Festival and the Miracle of Reality
It's been a year since the Nonsense in the Podcast began and it is a pleasure to be bringing you this week's episode from Glastonbury Festival 2025!It was a bit of a tough one though, even amidst having an amazing time, surrounded by people I love and adore. Who never fail to make me laugh. But there’s so much conflict and pressure in the world right now. We’re all tired and life's hard. We’re more than this. Life's more than this. It’s all bigger than this. And the game, the inner world, the Dreaming, our creativity… It’s all more than this. I don’t know how it’s all going to figure out, but having been at Glastonbury this year, and experiencing a vision there, I am reassured once more that all will be well. AND things are not right. Corruption, neo-liberalism, propaganda, censorship, fascism, lies… These all are happening and the UK is shockingly volatile. Glastonbury Festival likewise feels shaky. Like it has lost its way and is in danger of collapsing. As does the UK. These are difficult times. We are witnessing genocide and are being censored from speaking out against it. Things are a mess. But we will find a way through all this. We must keep going. We will find a miracle. Things will correct themselves. And love, as always, is the answer. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #44 Purification and Intoxication as Teachers
I said at the start of the year that I’d be doing a dry year and listener Gemma Rogers wrote in to ask me how that was going and if I could do a podcast about my experience of having a dry year. Spoiler alert… I didn’t manage it. Listen in as I share my journey with sobriety, and intoxication, working with all the elements of the ride as teachers. I’m also aware of the irony that this episode is coming out during the week that I’m at Glastonbury Festival, where I’ll be making the most of the luxuries available to me by being on the Big Big Rock and partying like a mofu, as one can over there. But from July… I’m back on the little rock, and back on the wagon! #43 Sark Life and the Legend that is Jimmy Martin
This is the first time I’ve interviewed someone who lives here on the Island of Sark. Jimmy Martin is an absolute star and it’s a delight to be able to share this beautiful soul with you. We talk about what life is like living here in a tiny community and all the different hats we have to wear. But we juggle all the things so that we can give something back to the island. We have each other’s backs.People are lovely and it’s important that we remember this in a world where the narrative is forever trying to divide and conquer us. In a world that so often pushes division, it’s vital to remember just how lovely people can be. Community, collaboration, and looking out for one another—these are the keys to building a future where we can all grow and thrive. #42 The Meaning of Life and A Deeply Profound Bun Dance
In the forty-second episode of Nonsense in the Chaos, we delve into the sacred significance of the number 42. As revealed in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42 — but the real puzzle lies in not knowing the question. This episode becomes a ‘Quest-I-On’ of its own, leading us to the word abundance. Through this lens, we explore gratitude as a daily practice and learn how to trust the flow of the universe. I reflect on the many ways my life is filled with abundance — and how, if we look closely, so are all of ours. Join me for an intergalactic dance with meaning, mystery, and a healthy serving of bun-based philosophy. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #41 The Feminine Lineage; Naomi Smyth and an alternative route to Fooling
I first met Naomi through working at Glastonbury Festival putting together the performative elements and installations for Shangri-la, the late night part of the festival, or the naughty corner, as we like to call it. We had worked together for a couple of days before we clocked that we were both fools and it all suddenly made so much sense. I’ve been interested to learn more about Naomi’s story and arts practices for some time now, so interviewing her for the podcast was a great opportunity for finding out more about her world. Naomi is a PhD researcher at Bath Spa University, focusing on the creative and technological responses of theatre artists to COVID restrictions. She’s an immersive theatre writer, director and performer with experience as an independent filmmaker and freelance videographer. Based in and around Bristol, she’s spent years working with Bristol born arts collectives like Shangri-la, Boomtown and the Invisible Circus. #40 Gemini Season and Untwisting the Twisted Twin
Recorded on the Gemini Dark Moon, in the throes of Gemini Season, this is an investigation into the dynamics of the inner and outer versions of ourselves. Exploring the archetypal realm, in lieu of it being the ‘Witchfool Are You?’ Course. This is the time of year, when I support participants to explore which archetypes rule them. This episode untwists the sphincter that separates our juicy infinite inner world to unite it with the infinite chaos of the outer world. Our outer world is desperate for some inner world magic. Too much Thin-King has made it brittle, ‘othering’ and weak. The rich juiciness of the inner world is the balm that will heal and unite this divide. Bringing balance and harmony to both the micro and the macro. #39 Sisterhood the Play; A gentle but fearless adventure into the dark heart of patriarchal rule.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: This week's episode is a recording of Sisterhood the play, which deals with themes of sexual abuse, infertility, suicide, and menopause. I'm sharing this in memory of Sophia, who created the live soundscape for this production and toured with me around East Anglia on a healing tour to all the places where Matthew Hopkins tortured and executed witches.Like Handmaid's Tale, but with more hope and gallows humour, Sisterhood is a gentle but fearless adventure into the dark heart of patriarchal rule. Three women, aged 20, 40 and 60 (But not a virgin, mother or hag in sight) stand on a precipice, the patriarchy watching over them – flaming torches aloft – threatening to hang them all. Sisterhood is a devised multimedia tale introducing you to a sisterhood caught between two timelines: the witch trials of the 16thC and modern-day women facing a world in political and environmental upheaval. Sisterhood transports the audience, in this live performance, to a church cell in Wilmington, where three women await their trial in the morning. Soothing and passionate storytelling interweaves the stories of these three women with vestiges from the performer’s own lives, to reveal an immediate and clear association.GROUNDBREAKING WORK “One of the best play scripts I’ve seen at the Fringe… At its core Sisterhood is a superbly written, intelligent, and essential play, masterfully portrayed by its three actresses, exploring the role of male domination, misinformation, sexual abuse, and age discrimination through the lens of the past but contrasted with moments drawn from the modern day.” - Fringe ReviewSisterhood the Novel by Jolie Booth is available on Amazon. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #38 A Meadow of Delight; Filling the Cup of Grief With Rainbows and Sparkles
In this deeply personal episode, recorded in the wake of the Beltane fire, I share reflections on the recent passing of one of my dearest friends - Sophia - a soul woven into the fabric of my life. A Meadow of Delight is a gentle wander through memory, magic, and mourning, honouring the ripples she leaves behind and the light she still casts in my world.Grief is often feared, tucked away or silenced. But here, we cradle it with reverence. I explore how grief and love are two sides of the same coin. How to fill the cup of sorrow with rainbows, with sparkles, with tenderness. This episode is a ritual, a remembering, and a reminder that the ache of loss is sacred. Join me in celebrating a life lived brightly, and in finding beauty within the breaking.Listen, pause, breathe—there’s treasure in the tears. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #37 Praying to Trickster; Howard Gayton and the power of Mask (Pt2)
This week’s episode of Nonsense in the Chaos is the follow-up episode in a two-part offering, born from a rich, two-hour conversation with my dear friend and fellow fool, Howard Gayton. In this half we pull the cards and discuss the topics that the universe leads us to. Howard and I connected properly during a 500-mile pilgrimage from London (or, as Howard rightly points out, Henley) to COP26 in Glasgow—though in truth, we stopped walking in Edinburgh.Howard Gayton has worked for over thirty years as a theatre director, performer, and teacher specialising in Commedia dell'Arte and other forms of mask theatre, as well as puppetry, foolery and folk drama. His work is inspired by all manner of mythic tricksters, zanni figures and sacred clowns, as well as by the use of masks in drama and sacred rituals the world over.In this deliciously layered chat, we explore the Trickster archetype through the lens of fooling, drawing on the historical threads of Commedia dell’Arte and the slapstick world of Punch and Judy. I could have talked to Howard forever—and very nearly did. I hope you enjoy our creative musings. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #36 Necessity is the Mother of Invention
This week I'm exploring what’s going on with the planets, as we thankfully draw to a close the last huge unprecedented shift of ‘once in a lifetime’ planetary signatures. There will be more to follow, but April was probably the craziest astrological month we'll ever know. Well done for surviving it. And I explore the power of necessity. A theme I've been mulling over a lot recently and keeps coming up against. What's necessary right now in your life and what's fluff? Where is best to place your energies? Your time is precious. Make sure its spent in ways that are necessary for your well being and happiness. The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #34 Schrodinger's Reality
In this week’s episode of Nonsense in the Chaos, I explore the idea that we each hold the power to shape our own reality. Using the metaphor of a single pixel in a vast image, I delve into how tending to your own light—your energy, your choices, your presence—can influence not only your personal world but the collective picture we’re all creating together. This episode invites you to reflect on how to make your pixel shine as brightly and vibrantly as possible, and how, in doing so, you open the door to manifesting any reality you can imagine. #33 A Vocal Odyssey; Nessi Gomes and the Spirit of Your Voice
You’re in for a real treat this week with the utterly gorgeous Nessi Gomes. Born and bred in Guernsey, Nessi is of Portuguese descent and a stunning singer- songwriter. Channelling influences from both sides of her ethnicity, Nessi blends the essence of the traditional, emotional and 'larger than life' Fado folk music of Portugal with British contemporary inspiration. Nessi makes music from the heart and the guts. If you’ve never heard of her before then go have a listen to Nessi’s work before tuning in to today’s podcast. Then sit back and enjoy the wisdom and insights Nessi has to offer. Our chat was an absolute delight and I can’t wait to share this week’s Nonsense in the Chaos with you. #32 Claiming Your Sovereignty
As Neptune enters Aries for the first time in 165 years, the sooner we sit back comfortably in our thrones of power and calmly and collectively claim our sovereignty, the better off we are going to be. Not to take our place as violent tyrants, but as self assured, content, higher versions of ourselves. Our biggest, brightest, bravest versions. This is freely available at any given moment and opens up the possibility of re-pairing with our twisted twins. But claiming your sovereignty isn’t always easy. It asks us to question, to challenge, and to risk stepping outside of the narratives we’ve been handed. It’s a pilgrimage in itself—one that requires courage, clarity, and a willingness to be seen as you truly are.The music and artwork is by @moxmoxmoxiemoxNonsense in the Chaos is available on all podcast platforms or you can listen to it here… https://nonsenseinthechaos.buzzsprout.com I'd love to know what you think! #31 RevoLOVEtion; Rebecca Kenny and Creating Spaces for Joy
I met Rebecca at the Academy of Creative Training in 2005 while studying acting. Drama school was a joy, and we shared a fantastic cohort. Since then, I’ve admired her fearless exploration of creativity as rebellion, pushing the boundaries of theatre, movement, and the body.A multidisciplinary performance artist, music maker, and cabaret clown, Rebecca infuses her work with surrealism, playfulness, and connection. Her alter-ego, Frieda Love, launched a "revoLOVEtion" in 2017, using neo-burlesque, clowning, and physical storytelling to challenge perceptions of female bodies and movement. Lately, she’s been diving into Butoh and Gaga techniques, making dance inclusive for all body types. Her work is also deeply tied to nature. In 2019, she lived in the Pyrenees on a dance residency, letting the land shape her movement. She sees theatre and dance as ways to rewild the body, stepping back into something instinctual and real. And she has just completed a residency in Colombia where she created the sharing ‘Listen, I love you, Joy is coming.’A witch in training, herbalist wannabe, and best friend to the moon, Rebecca’s work is radical, playful, and unique. Follow her @frieda_love_ I can’t wait to have her on Nonsense in the Chaos to talk about silliness as resistance and movement as magic!🎧 Come and listen. Let’s get moving. Let’s get silly. #30 Disrupting Complicity
This week, we’re diving into the quiet power of disruption. How do the smallest acts of resistance ripple out into wider change? How can challenging complicity in our everyday lives—our words, our choices, our silences—shift the larger systems we exist within? From the personal to the political, we explore how breaking patterns on the micro level can transform the macro.Join me as we unravel the ways we’re conditioned to conform, and how we can reclaim agency, one small act of defiance at a time. The ‘Witchfool are You? ABOUT THIS SHOW
This weekly offering is an exploration into the unknown, as I interview one of the many extraordinary people I've had the joy of meeting on this weird and wonderful journey we call life.Instead of having pre-planned questions, I pull three tarot cards, which we’ll discuss and share our insights on. This concept aims to support me and the listeners to learn to be at ease with the unknown, demonstrating how there’s something to gain from trusting the chaos of the universe.
