"Send us a text and let us know how we're doing"Jeremy is a 47-year-old maintenance worker at a manufacturing plant, a husband, and a proud father of two—a 22-year-old son and a 16-year-old daughter. When he is not maintaining the machinery at work, he can be found training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a journey he began in March 2019. Despite undergoing a total hip replacement in November 2021, he earned his purple belt in November 2024, proving that a little titanium cannot keep him down.He has always enjoyed staying active. He played league softball and flag football, coached youth football, and even assisted with children’s martial arts classes. He has hit the slopes on skis and a snowboard, spent time hunting, and competed in pistol and rifle shooting competitions.He also serves on the board of the Matthew Axelson Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the families of fallen soldiers and helping veterans transition to civilian life—work that he is deeply passionate about.Like many, he has struggled with weight gain, but life is just another match—you show up, fight hard, and keep moving forward. At 47 years old, he began practicing Jiu Jitsu in January 2024 and recently earned his blue belt. A few months ago, he competed in his first tournament and won his division. Although there was only one other competitor, Josh defeated him twice with the same submission. Initially weighing 565 pounds, he lost 75 pounds to qualify for bariatric surgery, which helped him shed an additional 100 pounds rapidly. He is diligently working towards his weight loss and health goals, aiming to lose another 50 pounds to reach his target weight. An avid fisherman, Josh hopes to catch a 30+ pound striped bass in 2025. He is a father (or stepfather) to a total of seven children, a cat enthusiast, and has spent 22 years as a 911 dispatcher/supervisor for Tipton County. He has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) for about six years, with an additional two years in Krav Maga. Each belt has come with its own injury: White - separated shoulder; Blue - broken forearm (now with a plate and screws that were never removed); Purple - ACL reconstruction, plus two infection flushes from the site. BJJ Head Coach and School Owner, Bill Henry
"Send us a text and let us know how we're doing"Bill is currently a 2nd degree Black Belt in BJJ under Mark Reding of Reding Martial Arts in Denton, TX. He was promoted in June 2016. He owns his own BJJ academy in Washington, IL, called Bill Henry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He worked as a Strength and Conditioning/Athletic Performance Coach for nearly 20 years, holding certifications from the NSCA, ISSA, and NASM. He has been teaching BJJ since he was a Blue Belt. He has been training BJJ for roughly 24 years, with breaks for injuries and life, of course. He prefers gi over nogi, but he trains and teaches both. He had emergency intestine surgery in 2015, losing a foot of his small intestine, and was kept off the mats for 5 months. He spent 11 days in the hospital. One year to the day after he was released from the hospital, he competed in his first black belt tournament.
