Marriage is Sacrifice?
Why are we (in the United States) struggling with marriage? Is it possible that our culture doesn't support the ideas and principles needed to maintain a healthy marriage? Climax in the Bible
I started a series on literary devices back in 2022 but I never finished it--I'm picking it back up. So this is sort of episode 1 and sort of episode 4 in this series... We're easing back with into the series with something most people are familiar with. IMPORTANT: in the episode I misspeak about who remembers Joseph; it is the cupbearer not the baker!!! Why is Religion so Complicated
"3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his trickery, your minds will be led astray from sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, this you tolerate very well!" 📚 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 NASB This episode discusses a complex, evolving spiritual question that stems from three specific conversations. These conversations touch on themes of legalism, the role of scholarly study versus the guidance of the Holy Spirit in understanding the Bible, and the spread of Christianity throughout history, particularly in regions where the message of Jesus hasn't reached. We will reflect on how people who have never heard of Jesus might still be able to experience His teachings through the Holy Spirit, even if they don't know the full gospel. The episode also delves into the debate on whether it's legalistic to follow God's commandments, comparing obedience out of love to attempting to earn salvation. I struggle with whether studying the Bible in depth is required for salvation or if the Holy Spirit can lead people without such extensive knowledge even in a time of deception. There are many questions raised about the nature of legalism, salvation, and the need for deep scholarly study of scripture, especially considering how difficult it can be for some people to access or understand these resources. This episode explores various Bible verses that relate to these themes, such as Deuteronomy 32:4, Proverbs 3:5, John 14:6, and Acts 17:30, which suggest that faith is a matter of trust in God, discernment through the Holy Spirit, and obedience to commandments, but not necessarily through scholarly study alone. I question whether deep historical and cultural context is required for proper worship and understanding, and wonders if God expects everyone to engage in such study or if He overlooks ignorance, as suggested in Acts 17. I admit I don't have all the answers and still have many unresolved questions, however I believe God meets people where they are. Ultimately, I plan to wait for further spiritual insight from the Holy Spirit to resolve these questions. References: 1. Legalism definition taken from Oxford English Dictionary 2. Woman of God Interview #1 feat Aunt Neat
"15 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, 16 “Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants also will fast in the same way. And then I will go in to the king, which is not in accordance with the law; and if I perish, I perish.”" 📚 Esther 4:15-16 NASB I've been doing a Woman of God themed series on YouTube and it's about time I start talking to other women about what it means to them. So my first interview is with one of my aunts who definitely embodies the phrase Woman of God. About my aunt: My aunt has been actively involved in the AME Church my whole life (and probably for most of hers too). I'm not going to reveal her age, but she's my eldest aunt so there's definitely a lot of wisdom to be learned from her. References: 1. In this discussion I mentioned a verse that confirms Adam was *not* deceived and was fully aware of what was happening. This verse is 1 Timothy 2:14; it is not in Romans. 2. My dad and my aunt's son walked in right at that point making us all laugh. 3. Huldah is discussed in 2 Kings 22 and 2 Chronicles 34 4. The story of Deborah is in Judges 4 5. The Christmas Debate
"“For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord: “I will put My law within them and write it on their heart; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 They will not teach again, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their wrongdoing, and their sin I will no longer remember.”" 📚 Jeremiah 31:33-34 NASB Other Verses of Importance 📚 Jeremiah 10:1-5 📚 Hebrews 8:10 📚 Hebrews 10:16 📚 2 Timothy 2:15 📚 Hosea 4:6 📚 Acts 17:29-30 This time of year, you'll be inundated with people arguing for and against Christmas. That's not what we're doing in this episode--if you want to see research I've done on the origin of Christmas, checkout the blog (www.psalmstogod.com/search/labels/Christmas). Today, we're talking about other aspects of the debate that are important to consider. If you get nothing else from this conversation remember this: It's not about being right or wrong, it's about worshipping God the way He wants to be worshipped. ** This episode also serves to correct a statement I'm sure I've made earlier on Jeremiah 10:1-5--while I still think we should be cautious and mindful of Christmas trees, upon closer reading I do agree that this verse is about idol statues and graven images. Many say this is a warning about Christmas trees, but I don't think the text actually supports that claim. I will do a post on the history of Christmas Trees specifically to address this when I have time. ** Show Notes: www.psalmstogod.com/2024/12/the-christmas-debate.html Website: www.psalmstogod.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/psalms_to_god SoundCloud: @psalmstogod YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/psalmstodgod

The Faith Journey
"But I tell you that for every careless word that people speak, they will give an account of it on the day of judgment." 📚 Matthew 12:36 NASB "“For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord: “I will put My law within them and write it on their heart; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 They will not teach again, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their wrongdoing, and their sin I will no longer remember.”" 📚 Jeremiah 31:33-34 NASB "12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the actual words of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness, for he is an infant." 📚 Hebrews 5:12-13 NASB Faith is a journey. Our relationship with God is a journey. And journeys have highs and lows, twists and turns, detours, and everything in between. Sometimes our journey takes us through scenic paths and paved roads, other times we're in the wilderness traversing rocky terrain. What's more, we're not all on the same journey. So let's talk about some different aspects of this journey and how they affect us and those around us. ** Correction: in the video I said mass means death, it actually means dismissal (still bad), see the etymology of the name of the holiday here: https://www.psalmstogod.com/2015/12/day-1-etymology-of-christmas.html ** Show Notes: www.psalmstogod.com/2024/12/the-faith-journey.html Website: www.psalmstogod.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/psalms_to_god SoundCloud: @psalmstogod YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/psalmstodgod

Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You
"1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “When a person sins and acts unfaithfully against the Lord, and disavows the rightful claim of his neighbor regarding a deposit or a security entrusted to him, or regarding robbery, or he has extorted from his neighbor, 3 or has found what was lost and lied about it and sworn falsely, so that he sins regarding any of the things that people do; 4 then it shall be, when he sins and becomes guilty, that he shall restore what he took by robbery or acquired by extortion, or the deposit which was entrusted to him, or the lost property which he found, 5 or anything about which he swore falsely; he shall make restitution for it in full and add to it a fifth more. He shall give it to the one to whom it belongs on the day he presents his guilt offering." 📚 Leviticus 6:1-5 NASB How we treat our neighbor is of the utmost importance. It's something we don't often focus on in church but today we're going to stop and remember 2 important things: Perspective and Accountability. History & Prophecy from Daniel 11 Pt 2
Daniel 11 covers a lot of history! This time we're covering Daniel 11:5-16; it discusses a war that begins between the King of the South and the King of the North. If we trace this throughout history, it looks like the Diadochi wars... Different sources list different generals as the 4 Generals who took over for Alexander the Great, but at the end of the day the important part is that the kingdom was split in to 4 regions, of which the Ptolemaic South and the Seleucid North became the most prominent, waging war against each other in the Diadochi wars until Rome took over. People Discussed: 👤 Ptolemy I - one of the 4 Generals and begins the Ptolemaic Empire (323 BC - 285 BC) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Ptolemy-I-Soter) 👤 Arsinoe II - daughter of Ptolemy I who marries Lysimachus then flees back to Egypt where she marries her brother Ptolemy II (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Arsinoe-II) 👤 Ptolemy II - second king of Egypt in Ptolemaic empire (285 BC - 246 BC) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Ptolemy-II-Philadelphus) 👤 Berenice - daughter of Ptolemy II who marries Antiochus II (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Berenice-daughter-of-Ptolemy-II) 👤Ptolemy III - son of Ptolemy II (245 BC - 221 BC) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Ptolemy-III-Euergetes) 👤 Ptolemy IV - son of Ptolemy III (221 -205) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Ptolemy-IV-Philopator) 👤 Ptolemy V - son of Ptolemy IV (205 BC -180 BC) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Ptolemy-V-Epiphanes) 👤 Seleucus I - defeats Lysimachus and begins Seleucid Empire (305 BC - 281 BC) 👤 Laodice, wife of Antiochus II (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Seleucus-I-Nicator) 👤 Antiochus II - grandson of Seleucus I and king of Seleucid Empire (261 BC - 246 BC) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Antiochus-II-Theos) 👤 Seleucus II - son of Laodice and Antiochus II (246 BC - 225 BC) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Seleucus-II-Callinicus) 👤 Antiochus III - son of Seleucus II (223 BC - 187 BC) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Antiochus-III-the-Great) 👤 Antiochus IV - son of Antiochus III and king during the Jewish war of the Maccabees (175 BC - 164 BC) (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Antiochus-IV-Epiphanes) Show Notes: https://www.psalmstogod.com/2024/11/history-prophecy-from-daniel-11-pt-2.html Website: www.psalmstogod.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/psalms_to_god SoundCloud: @psalmstogod YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/psalmstodgod

History & Prophecy from Daniel 11 P1
"2 And now I will tell you the truth. Behold, three more kings are going to arise in Persia. Then a fourth will gain far more riches than all of them; as soon as he becomes strong through his riches, he will stir up the entire empire against the realm of Greece." 📚 Daniel 11:2 NASB Daniel 11 covers a lot of history! In this episode we're talking about the time between Darius the Mede and Alexander the Great (the shift from Persia to Greece as the major power in the Middle East). Unmarried At 36: What No One Tells You
"32 But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord; 33 but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how he may please his wife, 34 and his interests are divided. The woman who is unmarried, and the virgin, is concerned about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how she may please her husband. 35 I say this for your own benefit, not to put a restraint on you, but to promote what is appropriate and to secure undistracted devotion to the Lord." 📚 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 NASB Dating is hard; I think everyone can agree with that statement. Most of us (women, atleast) assumed we would be married well before our 30s, but alot of us aren't. There's a lot of negativity out there in the discussion on why dating is hard and why people are single, but that doesn't really help anyone. This episode isn't about what anyone is doing wrong or even about what people are doing right, it's just a summary of experiences and nuances that seem to get left out in this conversation. In this episode I mention the difficulty of defining who is Christian: Check out my previous episodes on this topic... --> https://www.psalmstogod.com/2023/01/who-can-rightfully-call-themselves.html --> https://www.psalmstogod.com/2022/02/are-you-christian.html Show Notes: https://www.psalmstogod.com/2024/10/unmarried-at-36-what-no-one-tells-you.html Website: www.psalmstogod.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/psalms_to_god SoundCloud: @psalmstogod YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/psalmstodgod

Christian Nationalism
“19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, 20 idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. ” 📚 Galatians 5:17-23 NASB Christian Nationalism is on the rise in the US and is front and center in the coming election. I've been working through history and prophecy to get to a discussion on this topic centered around how it relates to prophecy. There's a lot of material to work through so I wanted to just dive right in. We'll come back to this topic after we get through all the prophecies to tie everything together. For now, let just use the basics to talk about the reason separation of church and state is actually a good thing. The 70 Weeks Prophecy Pt. 1
"22. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding. " 📚 Daniel 9:22 KJV Before we actually get into the interpretation, can we talk about the importance of this prophecy and the major flaws with the Futurist interpretation of the prophecy? Show Notes and References: www.psalmstogod.com/2024/09/the-70-weeks-prophecy-two.html References & Footnotes: 1. Bible translations are created using a method on the specturm from word for word (KJV) or thought for throught (The Message). Word for word means each word was translated as is to create the translate; this can sometimes be hard to read because the linguistics don't transfer from language to language. Thought for thought is when a phrase or thought is translated instead. This allows the translator to create smoother sentences, however it also requires the translator to interjet their interpretation of the passage into the translation. The Message is about as far on the thought for thought spectrum as you can go. There's alot added in (and possibly take out). It's just not a reliable translation. 2. The Ram and the He Goat
"26. And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. 27. And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it. " 📚 Daniel 8:26-27 KJV The next vision Daniel has (Daniel 8) features a ram and he goat. This vision is about Medo-Persia and Greece—the Bible actually confirms this explicitly! There is still a bit of debated prophecy, namely the beginning and end of the 2300 days, well also, how long is 2300 days? It sounds like a dumb question, but once we start talking about it you might start asking yourself the same question... "30. In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain. 31. And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old." 📚Daniel 5:30-31 KJV In Daniel 5 we get to see the fulfillment of the Babylon falling to another empire. In this fulfillment are a lot of lesson but we'll stick to history, the fulfilling of prophecy, and reaffirming how on the nose Daniel's prophecies are. The Spirit of Babylon
"16. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. 17. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 18. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. " 📚Daniel 3:16-18 KJV After Nebuchadnezzar's dream, he actually builds an image and tries to force people bow and worship. Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael refuse to bow. This results in a beautiful display of the Most High stepping in. However, it's also great to draw parallels for the future; today we're going to talk about how their brave actions speak to us in the last days. The Statue of Nebuchadnezzar's Dream
"The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret. " 📚Daniel 2:47 KJV In this episode we're going to talk about the vision/dream that Nebuchadnezzar had in Daniel 2. Daniel not only receives the interpretation of this vision to tell us that there will be a series of successive kingdoms before the Kingdom of God comes, but God also tells him the dream itself. Plus, it wouldn't be prophecy if it didn't pull from symbolism elsewhere in the Bible. Let's take a look! The Church at Smyrna
8 “To the angel of the Messianic Community in Smyrna, write: ‘Here is the message from the First and the Last, who died and came alive again: 9 “I know how you are suffering and how poor you are (though in fact you are rich!), and I know the insults of those who call themselves Jews but aren’t — on the contrary, they are a synagogue of the Adversary. 10 Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the Adversary is going to have some of you thrown in prison, in order to put you to the test; and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful, even to the point of death; and I will give you life as your crown. 11 Those who have ears, let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the Messianic communities. He who wins the victory will not be hurt at all by the second death.”’ 📚 Revelation 2:8-11 CJB We're continuing our series on prophecy with a mini series on The 7 Churches of Asia Minor. Discernment
"21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the [c]elect’s sake those days will be shortened. 23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand. 26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together." 📚Matthew 24:21-28 NKJV How should we go about discerning truth--by the Spirit? by the Word? by both? In this episode we're talking about the conundrum that of how we get and use discernment.

"But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is a sexually immoral person, or a greedy person, or an idolater, or is verbally abusive, or habitually drunk, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a person." 📚 1 Corinthians 5:11 We've all been to a church that wasn't right for us, but as I struggle to find a church home I find myself asking what are acceptable reasons for not returning to a church and what are minor quibbles? At what point does a church go from "not perfect" to "not even a church"? "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy." Was the Exodus a Colonizer Story?
“But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.” 📚Leviticus 19:34 KJV With the war in Israel/Palestine intensifying, my original episode kept getting overwritten with the question of wether the formation of ancient Israel was a colonizer story and how I felt about what happened then vs. what is happening now. This is a sensitive and nuanced topic so I did my best to articulate the thoughts that have been going in my head this month. If you get nothing else from this episode: I am angry that Christians and believers in the Most High have relegated real human lives, terror, and destruction to "is it prophetic?" without any regard to the real humans suffering right now. The Debt Ceiling
How should we prepare for the looming debt crisis? TL;DL? Faith. Tune in as we talk about the similarities between end time prophecy and the Exodus, and verses discussing preparation (such as Joseph preparing Egypt, Noah and the Ark, the Parable of the 10 Virgins, and the rich man who stored up food) "25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, *as to* what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, *as to* what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather *crops* into barns, and *yet* your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they? 27 And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span? 28 And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin *thread for cloth*, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is *alive* today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, *will He* not much more *clothe* you? You of little faith! 31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. **33** But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Balance
"8 “Futility of futilities,” says the Preacher, “all is futility!” 9 In addition to being wise, the Preacher also taught the people knowledge; and he pondered, searched out, and arranged many proverbs. 10 The Preacher sought to find delightful words and to write words of truth correctly. 11 The words of the wise are like goads, and masters of *these* collections are like driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd. 12 But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive study is wearying to the body. 13 The conclusion, when everything has been heard, *is*: fear God and keep His commandments, because this *applies to* every person. 14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil." 📚 Ecclesiastes 12:8-14 NASB Perspective can change how we view reality. Regret
"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers." -Ephesians 4:29 NKJV Some times we say stupid things we don't mean. Sometimes we say things because we're ignorant. We all have said something we regret, but we've all also had something said to us that we regret. Leveraging both sides of that experience may be the key to forgiving those who wronged us as well as motivating us to be more careful about what we say. Important Verses and Afterthoughts: 1. Psalm 141:3 2. James 3 3. Matthew 12:34 4. Assumptions
"10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among people knows the thoughts of a person except the spirit of the person that is in him? So also the thoughts of God no one knows, except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 14 But a natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But the one who is spiritual discerns all things, yet he himself is discerned by no one. 16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ." - 1 Corinthians 2:10-16 NASB Sometimes we assume people know things they don't; that can make for a confusing conversation. Sometimes we assume people *don't* know things that they do; that can make for an annoying conversation. This gets even worse when you add spirituality to it. How we handle these misfires is a really important ingredient in healthy, productive conversations. So today we're talking about assumptions... Who Do You Consider A Christian?
"15 Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits." -Matthew 7:15-20 NASB We're kicking off our discussion on how to disagree and hot-button topics in the faith with the question "who do you consider a Christian?" To answer this question, you first have to answer the question "what is a Christian" and that's a lot more controversial than it sounds. A Crucial Conversation
"Your speech must always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person." -Colossians 4:6 NASB It's hard to disagree politely, and with so many different opinions just *within* the faith--there's a lot to disagree about. We're bound to encounter people we disagree with within the body of Christ. Hurling insults, straw man attacks, and pouting is neither productive nor a good look. We must be able to speak about the things we feel passionately about with grace if we really want to emulate our Father and Messiah.
