The Christmas story is important because the birth of Christ is important. The Shema is not only a declaration to Israel – it is a statement about relationship. Philippians is a wonderful book in the Church Epistles, a letter penned by Paul with an abundance of encouragement and instruction for believers. In Zechariah 14, verses 6 and 7 speak of a “unique” day in the future known only to Yahweh. Our God has quite a challenge to take on: restore our fallen world with its many flaws, to the state of “Paradise” as it was in the Garden of Eden. The subject of rewards in the coming Kingdom of Christ on earth is not very well understood. There is more to worshipping God than attending church or singing praises. Worship involves sacrifice. Becoming a disciple is an act of worship. It is about obeying God even when we don’t feel like it. The Greek word pistis is often translated “faith,” but what does it mean? The concept of “faith” in the Bible is commonly misunderstood. Learn the history of “the Word of Faith Movement” and how trying to make things happen by “just having faith” puts an immense amount of pressure on Christians. Competing in a grueling athletic event requires proper training and preparation. Each Christian has a racecourse laid out ahead of him and to win our race we must prepare ourselves. We prepare for good works, prepare to give an answer, prepare to resist, prepare to fight, and prepare to endure. As Christians, we are often warned about the perils of getting too involved in the world. We’re told not to love the things of the world; not to conform to the world; and to keep the commandment unstained while living in this world. Despite the fact that adversity is a part of everyone’s life, people exert a lot of effort trying to avoid it. This mindset of seeking ease and comfort can limit us in seeing how God can and does use adversity to work powerfully with us. The Bible employs many figures of speech; it also contains poetry and wisdom literature that are written in a non-literal way. In biblical cultures “wisdom statements” were well-understood, but in our much more straightforward and factual writing of today, those statements can be confusing. Suffering is a universal problem, and almost as universal is the hurt, anger, resentment, and bitterness that can accompany or follow suffering. During the Apostle Paul’s time in Thessalonica he encouraged believers to build one another up, bless each other, and assist each other in creating and growing a lasting work in the Lord. Jesus taught us that the second most important commandment in the whole Bible is to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Despite this, there is often a surprising lack of love in the Christian community. The “wedding banquet of the Lamb” is spoken of in Revelation 19 and Isaiah 25, and is a topic of much misinterpretation. Understanding the receiving of revelation from God and the Lord Jesus Christ includes ascertaining it as a message of knowledge or wisdom to the gift of holy spirit born inside the believer. Jesus taught that the greatest commandment of all is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Conversely the greatest sin would be loving something or someone more than God. Today more and more people are feeling offended by the thoughts and actions of others. The spirit of offense is behind much of this tension as it engenders frustration, resentment, anger, and bitterness between people. The result is an increasing loss of compassion, coldness, and even hatred. Little known by the Christian Church is the fact that God has an inner divine council of spirit beings with whom He works to administer the universe.
