Know your JOY Values: Your 'secret' antidote & daily mandatory supplement

After listening to this episode and you know you want to do this work properly? The I Know Me, I Love Me Life Lab is the workshop that walks you through finding your core values, so you can love yourself, and the woman you are, by actually living them. It's free in Monday 11th May 2026 edition of The Joy Brief, or it lives permanently inside The Joy Rebellion membership. Links at the bottom. ↓About this episodeThis might be one of the most important conversations Ali has ever brought to The Joy Broadcast. It's the work she returns to with every Brilliance client. It's the work she returns to with herself, every morning, before her feet hit the floor.Your values. Not the easy answer of "integrity and honesty". The real ones. The ones you can rattle off when someone asks who you are. The ones that become your path, your conviction, your courage, your antidote.Because as Ali says: when you know who you are, you can stand tall when the poison arrows come. You don't need to zip yourself up in an energetic sleeping bag. You don't need to be the eggshell, terrified of cracking. You get to be the peach, soft on the outside, with a kernel so strong the world can't break it.What's inside this episodeA genuine, behind-the-scenes share, Ali reading from her own journal, walking you through:Why values matter more than your job title, your achievements, or your CVThe peach vs. the egg: how values become inner strength rather than outer armourWhy values are the better, freer alternative to boundariesHow values become the antidote when someone tries to define you, attack you, or shrink youThe exercise: blank sheet, brain dump, cluster, distil. Finding the one word that carries it allAli's own six core values and what each one really means to her: Genuine, Generosity, Gratitude, Grit, Growth, GraceWhy she added Grace as a sixth value at the end of 2024: softening, surrender, dignified strengthHow to use your values as a lens on your big goals. The journal exercise Ali did when she declared she wanted to make a lot of money, have a lot of fun, and help a lot of people, and had to clean up every place that desire collided with who she isA line worth holding onto"My values are the path I walk every day. I don't need boundaries, because I know who I am, and I know the path I'm walking."Your invitationIf something in this stirred you, triggered you, activated you, that's the friction worth listening to. Go and do the work. Get the blank sheet. Write everything down. Cluster. Distil. Define. And then live them.Links & next steps🌿 The Joy Brief, Monday 11th May edition (free I Know Me, I Love Me Life Lab): Subscribe for weekly exclusive JOY Brief offers.✨ The Joy Rebellion, where the Life Labs live, plus the full library, the community, and Ali in your week: Join the Joy Rebellion. £22/month or £222/year💛 Brilliance, Ali's six-month private mentorship for women with big dreams, big goals, and the readiness to do this work properly. Joy in the Sh*t, Diamonds, & Russian dolls

Welcome back after the Easter break. This week I'm sharing two tools I've been using personally and walking my Brilliance clients through over recent weeks — because when I find myself saying the same thing on repeat in private sessions, I know it's time to broadcast it.The first is what I've started calling the shit and the diamonds — the recognition that life rarely hands you triumph in every area at once. Your career might be hitting milestones while your home life is heavy. Your relationship might be thriving while work is falling apart. The trick isn't to pretend the hard stuff isn't there. It's to stop letting it smother the good stuff. The woman in you holds the emotional work. The CEO in you leads the diamonds. Two hands. Don't clap them together. The second tool is one I've been teaching for years and had a fresh personal breakthrough with this week — the Russian Doll effect. I don't believe in finding yourself or becoming her. I believe every version of you you've ever been is still valid, still wise, still part of who you are now. But sometimes, after a betrayal or a trauma, we leave a doll behind. We abandon a version of ourselves we decided wasn't safe to be anymore. This week I went back for two of mine, the trusting woman I left in 2016, and the financially independent corporate professional I left in 2014, and the relief of putting them back inside me is what this episode is really about. This is deeper work than usual. Take it as an invitation.Favourite Quote:"It's like you've got a pile of shit in one hand and a bag of diamonds in the other. Don't clap your hands together.""I don't believe in finding yourself. I believe in remembering yourself.""Every version of you is valid."Work with meThe Joy Rebellion: my membership where we lock in your joy every single week. Dressing for Joy (and Why Well-Dressed Is a State of Mind) with Dahlia Stroud

What do you wear on the day you've been made redundant? The day your confidence is on the floor? The day you're trying to remember who the hell you are without the job title? This week on The Joy Broadcast, I'm joined by the wonderful Dahlia Stroud, someone I haven't seen for the best part of 15 years, since our Asda House days in Leeds. Dahlia went from Head of Commercial with a full diary and a ringing phone to "here one day, gone the next" overnight. And out of that lost-purpose, all-dressed-up-with-nowhere-to-go season, she built Stressed But Well Dressed, a podcast (and a philosophy) about the link between clothes, confidence, and mindset. This one is for every woman who has ever asked herself, who am I now?  and every woman who already knows that what she puts on in the morning is never really just about the outfit.Favourite moments"I was all dressed up with nowhere to go." — Dahlia, on the season that birthed the podcast"Joy isn't fluff, it's fucking physics.""The opposite of happiness isn't sadness — it's hopelessness.""Dress for the best-case opportunity that could absolutely happen." — Dahlia"Well-dressed is a state of mind, not a fashion statement." — DahliaFind DahliaPodcast: Stressed But Well Dressed , out every Friday, wherever you get your podcastsInstagram: @stressedbutwelldressed_podcastLinkedIn: Dahlia StroudContinue your journey with JOYIf this one stirred something, the question of who am I now, or the quiet wondering about whether you're dressing for the day you're actually hoping for — come and stay close. The Joy Brief  the weekly edit for women who know that joy is the most powerful place to create from, be first to know about the podcasts, Substack articles and exclusive weekly offers. The Joy Rebellion the membership community for women choosing joy as their competitive edgeJoy in HD™  the mastercourse that teaches you your unique blueprint to amplify your JOY and accelerate your success in health, wealth & matters of the heart.alimortimer.com for everything elseRemember, JOY is Just On You. The Joy of Colour: How Your Home Can Change Your Life with Becky Harrison

There's a reason you walk into some rooms and immediately feel at ease and others that leave you flat without knowing why. This week's guest has built her whole practice around that mystery, and the answer almost always comes back to one thing: colour.Becky Harrison is an interior designer, psychology graduate, and Joy Rebellion member who brings a beautifully grounded, science-meets-soul approach to how we live in our homes. After 16 years in corporate project management — where her love for buildings quietly grew — she made the leap into design. Now she helps families create homes that don't just look good, but feel good. And she's doing it right now from inside her own renovation project, which makes this conversation all the more real.We talk colour, obviously. But we also go much deeper: into fear, judgment, Feng Shui, the psychology of clutter, and why the first question Becky asks a client has nothing to do with their favourite shade.Becky's quick-win tips you can use right now:Create a joy corner — a dedicated spot in your home with the things that bring you joy close at hand: candles, crystals, books, whatever's yours. Having it set up means you can access joy quickly without hunting for it.Build happy views — little vignettes at your desk or at the table. A piece of artwork, some flowers, something that catches your eye and delivers a small shot of dopamine while you work.Bring in pops of colour through nature — daffodils on the windowsill, a yellow vase, an orange throw. Small changes to the colour in a room lift the energy, which lifts your mood.Connect with Becky:Instagram: @beckyharrisondesigns Website: beckyharrisondesigns.co.ukBecky works primarily across the south west of England but will travel for the right project. If you want to embrace colour in your home, she's your person.Loved this episode?Come and join us inside The Joy Rebellion — the community Becky calls her reset. £22 a month. And if this conversation sparked something, share it with a friend who's been staring at Farrow & Ball paint cards for six months and still hasn't committed. The Joy Broadcast is hosted by Ali Mortimer - Joy coach, Private Life Confidante, Human Design guide, author, and founder of The Joy Rebellion.https://www.alimortimer.com/

The Joy of Reclaiming your Space with Steph McConachy

As part of our Easter inspiration series, celebrating women who inspire me and whose stories I know will inspire you, I'm joined by the wonderful Steph McConachy, founder of Nine Lemons Feng Shui. We met through the magic of Instagram and our mutual friend Kimberly Gallagher, and I have loved watching Steph's extraordinary journey unfold. In just three months, she grew her audience from 3,000 to 30,000 followers and she credits Feng Shui. This conversation is joyful, practical, and deeply moving. We talk about the power of your home to support your life, your business, and your healing, and how making small, intentional changes to your space can create profound shifts in everything from your visibility to your nervous system. What We Cover🍋 Why nine lemons? The story behind the name, from the power of the number nine in Feng Shui (we're in Cycle Nine!) and a secret nod to Real Housewives, to the Susan Jeffers "nine grid" and why a full life is the ultimate insurance policy.🗺️ The Bagua Map explained. The nine areas of your life mapped to your home: knowledge, career, helpful people, family, health, children and creativity, wealth, fame and reputation, and love. Steph walks us through how she reads a floor plan and what she can tell about someone's life just from where the bathrooms are.📈 How Steph went from 3,000 to 30,000 followers in three months by intentionally activating the fame, visibility and recognition area of her home, cleaning the windows, replacing dull bulbs, placing a plant, and setting clear, specific intentions.🌿 The power of intention setting. Why Feng Shui is not just putting lemons on a bench. How to speak to your home, talk to your plants, and use the nine areas as a 3D vision board for the life you want to create.🏠 Your home holds energy. Steph shares her deeply personal story of losing her son, buying a house in grief, and eventually using Feng Shui to reclaim her space and move forward. This led to her brand new programme Reclaim Your Space, for anyone navigating a major life transition.💼 The command position. Why where you sit at your desk matters more than you think, how cortisol levels drop when your back is against a wall, and why so many brilliant women are running seven-figure businesses from a corner of the spare room, shoved aside for a bed that gets used seven nights a year.🌍 Finding peace when the world feels uncertain. Why your home is your greatest source of empowerment right now, and the small acts of care that bring you back to safety.Steph's Offers Let It Go — a 7-day container to release "past self anchors" (not just decluttering, but energetically letting go) Reclaim Your Space — a brand new 4-week programme to shake the energy of your home through transition, grief, change, or a fresh start The Energetic Advantage — a 6-month deep dive (next round opening May)👁️ One-to-one work — private Feng Shui consultations, email me [email protected] Steph📱 Instagram: @ninelemonsfengshui www.ninelemonsfengshui.comLoved This Episode? If this conversation sparked something in you, share it with a woman who needs to hear it. From Cleaning Toilets to Florist to the Stars : The Joy of Vics Endersby

This Easter, Ali wanted guests with real stories. not picture-perfect ones, but the kind with roller coasters, sharp turns, and joy found in the most unexpected places. Vics Endersby of Wonderland Blooms is exactly that. In this warm, funny, and genuinely inspiring conversation, Vicks takes us through the chapters of her life from the rug being pulled, to cleaning other people's bathrooms, to skydiving alone, to building a wedding floristry business she loves, working with Paula Rooney in Vienna and Italy, and raising a daughter who is already pitching her first wholesale deals at thirteen. This is a story about gut instinct, small daily joys, and what happens when you back yourself completely. What We CoverThe rug pull. A decade ago, Vicks found herself cleaning toilets for a living, wondering how her comfortable, cottage-and-wood-burning-stove life had come undone. A marriage she thought was solid had quietly been heading elsewhere. When she found out, she did not wait. Scariest thing she had ever done. Most empowering thing she had ever done. The rebuilding. Single parenting, cleaning jobs, a bakery run by a woman in her sixties who became an unlikely mentor, and eventually a role at Pig and Pastry in YorkThe sky stuff. Four solo skydiving jumps. Gliding lessons. A gyrocopter. All of it done alone, all of it in the period after her marriage ended. Her brain, she says, is quietest in freefall. Ali's theory: when you have already made the biggest leap of your life, throwing yourself out of a plane is just confirmation that you will always pull the chute. The flowers. Vicks had always wanted to be a florist.  It took a marriage, a rebuild, and a bolt-upright moment in bed next to her new husband Mark to say: I am starting a wedding floristry business from this garage. He said yes, dear. The career that kept growing. From Friday flowers on a broken three-speed bike, Wonderland Blooms has grown into a full wedding floristry business. Vics has worked with florist-to-the-stars Paula Rooney in Vienna. She drove a van through Pisa on four hours' notice. She works alongside Kim at Dreambirds and Carousels on large-scale events. The loss. Vicks lost her mum recently. She talks about grief with the same directness she brings to everything else  it strips layers, she says. She has no time for imposter syndrome anymore. Life is for living. The legacy. Vicks wants to write a book. A coffee table book, or something more, she is still deciding. She wants her children to know what those early Saturday mornings were for. Joy, says Vicks, is in the small significant things, not the big dramatic ones. Her favourite colour grounds her on a hard day. That is enough. That is everything.Find Vicks📸 Instagram: @wonderlandblooms_  get in touch via Instagram 🌿 Subscription flowers (local delivery)Resources from Ali🌸 The Joy Rebellion Ali's membership for women who are done waiting for permission to choose joy. £22/month or £222 annually. You can't 'regulate' your way to JOY

In this week's Joy Broadcast , Ali talks through two phrases you hear absolutely everywhere in the wellness world. Two phrases that most people don’t truly understand, including the difference between them. In this episode, Ali makes that distinction clear. Plus why 'Regulating' is the wrong word in both cases and what you can do and say instead. In This EpisodeWhy ‘regulation’ is the wrong word and why it mattersYour nervous system: what it actually is, how it works, and why it’s prehistoric by designThe sympathetic and parasympathetic states and why we need bothThe real reason so many high-performing women can’t lose weight (hint: it’s not what you’re eating)Your emotional system: the ocean inside you, and how the mind makes sense of itWhy you can be emotionally intelligent and still absolutely exhaustedBody first, then brain, the sequence that changes everythingHow to work out which system needs your attention right nowThe Key InsightYour nervous system is your physiology,  the body, the container. Your emotional system is your psychology, the ocean of feelings held within that container. Most women are working hard on one and bypassing the other entirely. And if your nervous system is stuck in a stress response, your prefrontal cortex has gone offline, which means all the therapy, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence in the world can’t land properly.Body first. Then the brain. The container, then the ocean.“We aren’t heating systems with knobs. We are oceans. And you cannot calm an entire ocean with a knob.” Links & Next Steps→ Download the Joy List — free in the Joy Emporium→ Join The Joy Rebellion (membership, £222/year): Joy Rebellion→ Brilliance  private one-to-one mentorship with Ali: Work with me→ Email Ali: [email protected] If you’re not sure which system needs attention right now, the body or the emotional ocean,  start with the Joy List & the Daily Dose (number one in the Joy Emporium  for free) . How I Healed my Migraine with JOY

Ali woke up this week with a horrendous migraine  and instead of pushing through or giving up, she did something else entirely. She 'joyed' her way out of it. In this honest, personal, and surprisingly practical episode, Ali shares exactly what she did hour by hour to heal herself using her own joy strategy and why this was a powerful reminder that joy isn't just a philosophy. It is a healer, a strategy, and a verb. The Key IdeasJoy is a verb. 'To joy' is to actively, deliberately choose yourself, your rest, your pleasure, your peace is the strategy. Not something you do after everything else. The thing you do first, or nothing else works properly.Frustration is a signal. As a Generator in Human Design, Ali knows that frustration is her not-self theme,  the signal that she is out of alignment with her own energy. A migraine is her body's loudest version of that message. When she honours it, everything flows. When she ignores it, everything costs twice as much.Slowing down is not falling behind. In choosing to rest, write for pleasure, meditate, and walk slowly, Ali ended the day having done more than she had planned and all of it felt like ease.Joy is chemistry. The Daily DOSE  (Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, Endorphins)  is not a concept. It is a biological strategy. When you flood your body with these hormones through small, deliberate acts of joy, you change your internal chemistry. Ali has the OG joy list to prove it, a tiny scrap of paper she has kept since 2016.Resources MentionedThe Original Daily DOSE Episode scroll to the very first episode of The Joy Broadcast for the full story of how joy healed Ali in 2016. The Secret to Unshakeable Joy

In this meaty, educational episode, Ali takes you through one of the most powerful exercises she does with her private clients: identifying your core values. Because when you truly know your values, you have an anchor that nothing and no one can take from you. You have confidence that comes from within, not from external validation. And you have the most powerful antidote to anyone who tries to shame, judge, or hurt you. This is the work that has given Ali the clarity to stand on stage, be visible, and receive both praise and criticism, all with an unshakeable sense of who she is.What We Cover in This EpisodeWhy knowing your values changes everything When your inner world and outer world are aligned, living out of integrity with yourself becomes impossible. Ali shares how this work protected her in a pivotal moment and how it does the same for her clients every single day.Values as your antidote When someone throws criticism, judgment, or hate your way, your values are the truth that makes their poison dissolve. Ali even uses them to identify why something is hurting, so she can let it go and move on.Ali's own core values Grit. Grace. Gratitude. Growth. Genuine. Generosity. All beginning with G (because Ali loves alliteration and words are her love language). She walks you through how she arrived at each one, and why Grace was the newest addition and the one she still has to consciously remember. The values discovery exercise — step by stepGrab a blank sheet of paper and write down everything you value in life. Fill the whole page. Don't edit yourself.Ask yourself: When did I feel really, really good about myself? Why? Who was I being? What was I honouring?Ask yourself: When did I feel really hurt or sad? What values were stepped on?Start grouping your words — find the one word that holds all the others for you.Make your list memorable. Alliteration, acronyms, whatever helps you know them off the top of your head.Living the practice Over the next week, witness yourself. When you feel good, which values are you honouring? When you feel off, which ones have been stepped on? This is a practice, not a one-time exercise. Keep coming back to it.Resources MentionedI Know Me and I Love Me:  Life Lab workshop inside The Joy Rebellion. Joy: The Magic Formula for Success

Welcome back to The Joy Broadcast and welcome to Year Two!This first episode of season two is a declaration. A relaunch. And a reminder of why joy isn't just a nice idea, it's chemistry, biology, and physics. It's the most powerful strategy you have.Ali opens with a confession: she took a break. She burned things down (very 3/6 of her), sat in the embers, and asked herself what this next chapter of the Joy Broadcast really needed to be about. The answer? Power. Not the soft version of joy, but joy as your sharpest competitive edge. What We Talk About in This EpisodeThe evolution of the Joy Broadcast Year one was about survival:  how to find joy when everything is falling apart. Year two is about something bigger: how to use joy as a strategy when everything is piling up and coming at you all at once. Same answer, different era.Joy is not fluffy. Joy is science. Ali breaks down why joy operates across three branches of science  and why that completely changes how you should think about itChemistry: Joy changes what you're made of. Biology: Joy changes how you function as a living system. Physics: Joy changes your frequency. The Magician card While writing her keynote speech, Ali pulled a tarot card — and out jumped the Magician. The reminder she needed: you are the magic. And magic is always the same formula: power + skill + action. Fear as a messenger, not a shackle Fear comes up in client conversations every single week. Ali reframes it completely here: fear isn't your foe, it's your friend. It is one of your greatest guides.Resources MentionedThe Daily DOSE — your free starting point for flooding your body with the happiness hormones that heal. Joy, love & nostalgia with "Boo & Bambi!"

THE JOY BROADCAST: BOO & BAMBI - A SISTER CONVERSATION ABOUT LOVE, NOSTALGIA & NOT THINKING ABOUT ANYONE ELSEThis February, we're exploring love beyond romance. In this special episode, I sit down with my sister Alex (affectionately known as Bambi or Bird) for an intimate conversation about sisterhood, meaningful connections, and the joy of just being yourself.Fresh from our Maldives adventure celebrating my 50th birthday, we dive into questions about nostalgia, childhood memories, modern dating disasters, and what it means to truly switch off from responsibility.IN THIS EPISODE:On Nostalgia & Memory We explore what triggers our memories – from songs and smells to how differently we each process the past. I share how the anniversary of Mum's death affects me through snowdrops and Louis Armstrong, while my sister reveals she's more like Dad, able to leave the past in the past. The Gift of Not Thinking About Anyone Else We discuss what made our Maldives trip so special: the rare luxury of focusing just on ourselves. No kids, no partners, no responsibility for anyone else's happiness – and why that's not selfish, it's essential. The Wisdom of Empathy Alex shares her mantra shift from judgment to empathy – the story about ice creams on a winter school run that changed how she sees people's actions. We explore how we judge ourselves by our thoughts but others by their actions.Childhood Memories & Growing Up From being mistaken for each other on phone calls to Dad, to childhood holidays where we didn't have to worry about anything, we reflect on how adulthood changes the way we experience time off.JOY IS THE ACRONYM FOR JUST ON YOUAs I share in this episode, when you're holding so much – children, partnerships, work, household, pets, everything – your main job is to focus on your own energy. You have to spend time every single day focusing just on yourself so you can expand your capacity to hold everything else. Otherwise, you store up resentment, frustration, and exhaustion from over-giving.This conversation is a reminder that the deepest connections allow you to just be yourself, say "I want to go to bed" on your 50th birthday at 10pm, and know there's no judgment. JOY101: When to Rock the Boat (and when not to!)

Are you playing it safe when your soul is whispering there's more to life? In this episode of The Joy Broadcast, Ali shares a powerful Joy Code about why movement is essential for happiness and when it's time to rock the boat versus when it's time to hold steady.Drawing from conversations with Joy Rebellion members and her own experience of capsizing her life (and rebuilding it), Ali explores the tension between stability and growth, between contentment and that persistent inner voice saying "you're meant for more."If you're feeling stuck in calm waters but restless for adventure or if you're in someone else's storm this episode is your permission slip. What You'll LearnWhy happiness requires movement (according to Arthur Brooks, the "King of Happiness")The difference between intentionally rocking your own boat versus responding to someone else rocking yoursHow to know when it's the right time to make waves (and when it's not)Ali's South of France childhood memory that perfectly captures the joy of rocking the boatThe questions to ask yourself before making any big life changeHow to start rocking the boat gently without capsizing everything on day oneMemorable Quotes"When you start to rock that boat, you're starting to make waves. And it's those waves that lead you to movement.""Happiness to me is always the sense of movement of something better that's coming, something just around the corner.""If you're playing it safe, how can you know where you're going to go? Safe to me is like hiding, it's staying small, it's staying where you are.""You can't get to the next level without waves in whatever you want to do, wherever you want to go.""The common thread in all of these is just to come back to you, just on you—your joy, your definitions, your truth, your knowing, your little voice and your boat."Call to ActionAre you ready to rock the boat—or do you need permission to hold steady?Ali would love to hear from you:Are you going to rock the boat? Are you stabilizing the boat? What are your worries or fears?Join the conversation inside The Joy Rebellion membership where Ali drops Joy Codes every week and women support each other through life's waves—whether you're creating them or riding them out.https://www.alimortimer.com/

Joy101: Knowing your definition of success

What if your definition of success was the thing secretly blocking your joy AND your wealth? In this powerful episode, I'm kicking off a new series called Joy 101—101 ways to create, use, and bring more joy into your life. And we're starting with the code that changed everything for me nearly a decade ago: rewriting my definition of success.Back in 2015, when I walked away from my 20-year IT consulting career, I wrote down three simple lines: Success is loving what I do, loving who I do it with, and loving myself in the process. That definition carried me through a full decade of transformation—from body dysmorphia and not being able to look in the mirror, to building The Joy Rebellion and creating my dream life. But recently, after returning from the Maldives for my 50th birthday, I realised something had shifted. I'd achieved everything in that definition... and now it felt incomplete. This episode is about what happened when I revisited that success definition and discovered the missing piece: money. Not money as greed, but money as the ROOF protecting everything I've built. Money as the overflow that benefits my health, my family, and my clients. Money as strategy, not reward. In this episode, you'll discover:→ Why your old definition of success might be keeping you stuck (even if it once served you beautifully)→ The three foundational blocks that must come FIRST before wealth can flow→ How to add "AND" instead of replacing what already works→ Why women especially hold shame and resistance around making "a fuck ton of money"→ The power of safe spaces where we can talk about money without being shamed or cancelled→ How to write YOUR success definition for who you are TODAY (not who you were five years ago)→ Why joy and wealth aren't opposites, they're partnersThis conversation sparked something powerful in The Joy Rebellion membership, and I knew it needed to reach more women. If you've ever felt conflicted about wanting more money, or if you've achieved "success" but still feel empty, this episode is for you.Action Steps:Your Joy 101 Assignment:Grab your journal and write YOUR definition of success for who you are TODAY, in this era of your life.Ask yourself:What does success mean to me RIGHT NOW (not five years ago)? What am I resisting that might be the missing piece?Where can I add "AND" instead of choosing between things I want? What would success feel like every single day?Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. This is JUST ON YOU.Join the Conversation:If this episode ignited something in you—if you want to explore your money blocks, rewrite your success definition, or have these deep conversations with women who GET IT—I'd love to invite you into The Joy Rebellion. This is the space where we hold each other, where you don't have to hold everyone else, and where joy becomes your strategy, not your reward.Link: https://www.alimortimer.com/the-joy-rebellionLove always, Ali xo 🌹P.S. The Joy of starting a new year with Devotion (rather than Discipline)

What if everything you've been taught about achieving your goals is actually working against you? In this powerful episode, Ali shares the transformative moment when she realised that discipline, determination, and dedication were holding her back - not moving her forward. Discover why devotion is the secret ingredient to sustainable success, a thriving marriage, radiant health, and a business that doesn't drain you.If you're a woman who holds everyone else together but struggles to stay consistent with your own goals and dreams, this episode will change everything. What You'll Learn:Why discipline feels like punishment (and what to do instead)The one-word shift that doubled Ali's business income and tripled her reachHow devotion transformed Ali's 30-year marriage and got her in the best shape of her life at 50The four pillars of joy and how devotion weaves through each oneWhy women in leadership burn out trying to discipline themselves into successHow to stop whipping yourself forward and start loving yourself thereThe difference between devotion (love) and discipline (force)Why joy is your strategy, not your rewardKey Quotes:"Those three D's - discipline, determination, dedication - they sound like whips. And I don't like to be whipped.""Devotion is love. To be devoted IS love. Devotion is a beautiful, loving, honorable energy rooted in passion, not punishment.""You wouldn't lead your team with a whip. So why are you leading yourself that way?""When you're devoted to your joy, you don't burn out. You don't blow everything up. You don't lose yourself taking care of everyone else.""I'm devoted to this one fucking life."The Four Pillars of Joy:Health of the body - Devotion to honoring what makes you feel alive and strongPeace of the mind - Devotion to creating space for stillness and self-compassionLove for your life - Devotion to your marriage, family, home, and workBelief in your dreams - Devotion to the magic of manifestation and faithAli's Transformation Through Devotion:✨ Got into her skinny jeans at nearly 50 (even did modeling this year) ✨ Rekindled her 30-year marriage - stronger than ever ✨ Doubled her business income in 12 months ✨ Tripled her business reach ✨ Created sustainable success without burnoutResources Mentioned:The Joy Rebellion Membership - A community for women who want to prioritize themselves and their joy without apology. Full Blog Post: [Devotion Over Discipline: The One Word That Changed Everything]Connect With Ali:Website: [www.alimortimer.com]Instagram: [@alimortimer_thejoycoach]Join The Joy Rebellion: [The Joy Rebellion Membership]Subscribe to The Joy Broadcast so you never miss an episode where we explore joy in the dark, joy in the hard, and joy at the top.https://www.alimortimer.com/

The Joy of Having a "Me For Me" Mentor - with Jana Kingsford

How do you go from sabbatical to six figures in one year? You find your "me for me" mentor. This week, I'm sitting down with the woman behind the Joy brand - my mentor, my coach, the person who helped me turn a whisper of "I'm a joy coach" into a thriving, purpose-driven, six-figure business.Meet Jana Kingsford: The Big Dreams Genie, creator of the Me Brand framework, author of eight books in three months (yes, really), and the mentor I followed for years before I was ready to work with her. This conversation is about big dreams, personal branding vs. business branding, why your hair doesn't need to be perfect, and what it means to "raw dog" your personal brand (Jana's words, not mine - but I love it).If you've been following someone for years, if you know deep down who your mentor is but haven't clicked the link yet, if you're building something that feels scary and big and true...This episode is for you. What We Talk AboutOn finding your "me for me" mentorOn Jana's origin story: The Big Dreams GenieOn Oneology: The book that changed everythingOn personal branding vs. business brandingOn "raw dogging" your personal brand (Jana's concept)On Jana's hair (yes, really)On the Me Brand frameworkOn Figure Seven (Jana's private coaching)On 2026 and big dreamsKey QuotesAli: "In 2023, everywhere I looked, it just kept saying joy, joy here, joy there, joy this, joy that. When someone said 'what do you do?' I said 'I'm a joy coach.' And that's when it hit me.""Jana, thank you on behalf of me and all of my listeners and all of my clients for helping me bring Joy to the world.""Your Oneology book is like my Bible. Every line crystallises, alchemizes. I've read it so many times and each time I'm like, YES.""I need someone to hold me through the big dick moments."Jana: "I'm the Big Dreams Genie. If we go back to when it started - 2006, pregnant with my second baby at 22, high school dropout signing up to university.""Four months in I knew: I'm not going to get a job in this field. What's the point? Then I got this rush: Janna, you're here to help women feel capable of their big dreams. Later on this is going to make sense. Trust it, do it.""I accidentally wrote eight books in three months. I've lost track of all the others but I think I'm at eight.""If it's ever about THEM for you, it's a business brand. If you're like 'I'm going to create this for this customer' - you're out of personal brand territory.""Personal branding is you being as YOU as you can be. It's saying what you want to say. It's showing us your Christmas parties, wine at sunset, things we don't expect.""My hair is like a client machine. A client paid me £70K and she's like 'it's just your hair, I just wanted to brush it.'""Raw dogging your personal brand is living in it, being fully in it. It's life-giving. You're on purpose and there's a universal God-given situation that happens.""People will be like 'how is it working? You literally just show up with your yacht photos and here's Me Brand, buy now.' The Joy of Money Matters - with Amy Goodall-Smith

Money. Just reading that word probably made you tense up a little, didn't it?This week - in the final episode of the year and launching into January when everyone's freaking out about finances - I'm sitting down with someone who actually makes money joyful.Meet Amy Goodall-Smith: Chartered Financial Planner, Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, Master's in Finance, and my gorgeous friend from school (yes, we go way back).Amy's job? "I drink coffee, eat biscuits, and chat to people all day long. I spread a bit of money joy everywhere."If you've ever felt overwhelmed by all the noise around money, if you're terrified of making wrong decisions, if you've got pensions scattered everywhere with no strategy, if talking about money makes you feel anxious or ashamed...This conversation is for you.Because here's what Amy knows: Peace of mind is the greatest wealth you can have.Let's bring some joy to your money matters. What We Talk AboutOn spreading money joyOn creating a financial strategyOn the biggest fears around moneyOn money and emotionsOn finding forgotten moneyOn overwhelm and simplicityOn freedom and choiceOn Amy's company philosophyOn Amy's approachKey QuotesAmy: "My kids say 'Mum, what do you do for a living?' I just say: I drink coffee, eat biscuits, and chat to people all day long. I get to spread a bit of money joy everywhere.""People are so nervous of money and talking about money. They're frightened of it, or they don't feel they know enough, or they're anxious about making decisions.""Siblings fall out over money in inheritance. Divorce becomes so emotional around the cash. 'That's not fair - I've been going and getting the money!' 'I've been at home doing all of this so you can do that!' All those emotions involved in money.""Tackle it with a bit of strategy, take it head on, remove all the shame, take away those fears by starting to talk about it. That's really my driver for everything I do.""I've got this knowledge, I'm really lucky. I can share that with people as much as they want to listen. It's enough to make people say 'okay, maybe it's not that scary.'""Peace of mind is the greatest wealth you can have. That is true. If you can have that peace of mind with the strategy, then you're all good. You can create the choices."Ali: "The general narrative around money is just one of lack and fear-mongering. I wanted to bring joy to our spending, investing, savings - to talk all about money.""Freedom financially is important. But freedom also comes from having that peace of mind - free from the fears.""You can give them both: freedom from the anxiety and worries by giving them simple knowledge and simple strategies, AND that financial freedom that gives them choice."Connect with AmyManagement Website: https://www.goodallsmith.co.ukInstagram: [@goodallsmith_wealth_management ] Location: Twyford and Henley-on-Thames (but work with clients everywhere via Zoom/Teams)Get in touch and someone from Amy's lovely team will give you a ring to support you in whatever way they can.Resources :https://nationaldebtline.org/https://www.stepchangehttps://www.alimortimer.com/

The Joy of Bah Humbug - with Eleanor Goddard

Not everyone loves Christmas. And that's okay. This week, I'm sitting down with my dear friend Eleanor Goddard - entrepreneur, wife, mum of two twentysomethings - for a conversation that goes deeper than tinsel and turkey. We're talking about death at Christmas (yes, really). About teenagers who still need you but don't think they do. About the pressure of holding everyone and everything together during "the most wonderful time of the year."And about why that pressure? It's actually a privilege. This is a raw, honest, beautiful conversation about navigating loss, aging parents, grown children, and the question that death keeps asking us: What do you want to do with this one life?Eleanor will be back in the New Year to continue this conversation - because somehow we lost the final 10 minutes! But our conversation was too good not to share and she will be back in the New Year! What We Talk AboutOn death and funerals at Christmas. On parents and lossOn squeezing more out of lifeOn the next chapterAbout Eleanor GoddardEleanor is the co-owner of Furnish & Fettle Interiors, the design business she runs alongside her husband, Glyn. A proud mum to Newcastle University students Ollie and Hattie—and to Ralph, the family’s lively black Labrador puppy—she balances entrepreneurship with a full and colourful home life. Before launching the business, she built a successful career in medical sales. That chapter ended abruptly when she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and the rare neurological condition orthostatic tremor, leading to a profound period of personal challenge. Her health journey included navigating depression and chronic fatigue as she came to terms with the loss of her career and identity. Driven by curiosity and determination, she immersed herself in research and clinical trials, and today her rheumatoid arthritis is generally well controlled, though flares still occur. Her orthostatic tremor remains her most significant daily hurdle, limiting her ability to stand without shaking—yet it’s also become part of the story that fuels her resilience & drive. She’s recently discovered a passion for cold-water swimming, and often draws on the mind-body tools she gained while training in clinical hypnotherapy after her two hypnobirths.Alongside running Furnish & Fettle, she has also stepped into the world of angel investing, embracing the learning curve, the energy of the community, and the thrill of building a portfolio that supports exciting new ventures. As her experience grows, she is beginning to explore the possibility of sharing her insights more formally—potentially stepping into a Non-Executive Director role to support and guide other founders on their journeys.Connect with EleanorFurnish & Fettle: https://www.furnishandfettle.co.uk/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/furnish_and_fettle/ Linked in: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eleanor-goddard-a6a19024/Coming in the New YearEleanor will be back to continue this conversation. Stay tuned for Part 2.Listen now for a conversation that's raw, real, and full of more joy than bah humbug (even when we tried).https://www.alimortimer.com/

Or can I just pull another cracker?""The frequency of gratitude can only occur if you've received it already. So you're in the frequency of having received it, which means you've already done it."Ali: "We cannot inflict a feeling on somebody else unless they're already feeling it already.""It's loving yourself enough to be able to say, I love myself to remove myself from this situation.""When you align with love, you amplify your joy. Festive Joy in Grief with Photography & Self-Love with Paula Ivy

Ali welcomes her online bestie Paula Ivy - an Australian photographer and artist who changed Ali's life through the transformational power of self-portraiture. This emotional conversation explores how learning to photograph yourself becomes a radical act of self-love, how to leave a photographic legacy for those you love, and why printed photographs matter more than ever.Key InsightsPhotography as Radical Self-LovePaula doesn't just teach photography - she teaches women to see themselves differently. What starts as learning angles and lighting becomes something much deeper: learning to look at yourself objectively, beyond the critical voice that says "fugly," beyond the conditioning from parents and society.Ali's transformation: "I came in thinking I'd learn to take photos. Instead, Paula taught me how to see myself as art. My body became shapes and images, not just flaws. It was alchemizing, transformational, healing."The Light Switch MomentEvery person who works with Paula experiences this: a moment when the light switch flips and suddenly you lean closer to the mirror and think, "Holy shit. I am beautiful. I can SEE it."From Fugly to PhenomenalWe all carry voices - from parents, ex-partners, friends, society - that tell us we're not good enough. Too fat, too ugly, too old, too much, not enough.Paula's work helps you reprogram that voice. Like Ali's son Willy dancing in the mirror saying "I love myself, I look hot" - that's the energy we can reclaim. The Wayne Dyer TruthAli's favourite quote: "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."Paula teaches you to change the way you look at YOURSELF. And when you do, you change.Leaving a Legacy: The Importance of Printed PhotographsAli's mum hated how she looked. When she died 10 years ago, there were no photographs of her. That absence - that lack of visual memory - was devastating.Ali's mission: Create thousands of photographs so her boys have a box full of memories when she's gone.Paula's wisdom: In an age of AI and digital manipulation, printed photographs become PROOF. Tangible truth. "This is the history, this is the past that I've had. It's here and it can't be messed with because it's printed. It's a thing."Photography is Becoming More Important, Not LessAs AI makes everything questionable, as digital images can be altered beyond recognition, physical printed photographs become our anchor to truth and memory. The invitation: Print your photos. Create albums. Leave tangible proof of your existence, your beauty, your life. And so much more! Please connect with Paula - she will change your life - you will start to see yourself & your life through a different lens. You will find all her work through my affiliate link here: https://www.paulaivy.com/alimortimer?affiliate=XScVFDCheck out her freebie: 'F*ck I am beautiful' - a personal project through selfies.I have taken all her programmes, starting with Selfography30,  Selfie Queens, 121 for brand artistry and now in her membership Selfography.Follow her on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/paulatheivyIf you loved this episode - please leave me a review & share it on your socials! With all my loveAli xohttps://www.alimortimer.com/

Festive Joy of Soul Healing with Denny Devine

Ali welcomes her friend Denny Devine - an angel walking this earth - for a conversation about staying calm, connected, and joyful during the festive season. They explore the balance between Christmas celebrations and the natural darkness of winter, how to find light in the dark, and practical tools for managing the overwhelming tornado that Christmas can feel like.Key InsightsThe Cultural Push vs. Natural RhythmChristmas happens at the darkest time of year. Traditionally, winter solstice (December 21st) was about hunkering down and celebrating the return of light. Now, we're dragged into what Denny calls "a bit of a tornado" - the pressure to be glittery and joyful when nature is actually inviting us to rest. The truth: It's okay to find Christmas both lovely AND overwhelming.Finding Light in the DarkBoth Ali and Denny have walked through darkness to get where they are today. Their shared wisdom: Don't avoid the dark. The jewels are found there. When darkness is plunged upon you, there's no choice but to find the light. But it's not always as simple as "turning on the light" - sometimes you can't find the switch. You're feeling around in pitch black. The revelation: The light isn't outside you. It's within you. When you sit IN the darkness instead of avoiding it, you find the jewels that spark your own light.Lifting the Rug: What Are You Afraid to Find?People don't lift the rug because they fear the monsters underneath. They fear the worst-case scenario. But what if instead of monsters, you found diamonds? Ruby slippers? Glass slippers? The practice: Lean into the dark parts of yourself with curiosity, not fear. You have no idea what you're going to find - so don't always assume the worst. The Pause: Your Most Powerful ToolWhen life gets busy and overwhelming (hello, Christmas), the most important practice is THE PAUSE.Before you respond, before you react, before you spiral - pause. Even if it's just 60 seconds. Feel what's coming up. Connect with yourself. As Denny says: "Stop responding to every single thought. Just sit. Let awareness bubble up. Let vulnerability bubble up. See what's there and just let it be there."The Havening PracticeWhen you need to soothe yourself, try this physical self-soothing technique:Cross your arms over your chest (give yourself a hug)Stroke down from your shoulders to your elbows with opposite handsWhile doing this, repeat: "I shed the shame. I give myself grace."Why it works: We're primed from babies to find comfort in this motion. It's deeply soothing.Forgiveness as a Daily PracticeDenny practices forgiveness for herself constantly, especially at Christmas when routines slip and perfection isn't possible.Ali's forgiveness mantra: "I shed the shame. I give myself grace."Repeat it until your shoulders drop. That's you connecting with yourself, giving yourself the hug when no one else is there. The Cacao RitualDenny's daily ritual is making cacao - her "safe place in the day." She even sings to her cacao (Christmas carols at the holidays!).The principle: Find your 5-minute ritual. It might not be cacao, but create sacred time to sit in stillness, reflect on the day, and just BE.You Can't Delegate Your WellbeingJust like you can't delegate your health (from Debbie's episode!), you can't delegate your peace, your joy, or your healing. This is JUST ON YOU. And that's actually empowering, not limiting.Staying Connected Through the ChaosThe most important thing during a crazy season: Stay connected to yourself.Notice whhttps://www.alimortimer.com/

Festive Joy & Happy Hormones with Debbie Townsend

Ali talks with her friend & chiropractor Debbie Townsend, also lifestyle advocate, author & Dutch Test Provider about happy hormones during the festive season. This conversation covers hormone health, stress, menopause, and how to keep your body balanced when life gets busy. Deep science made accessible and practical.Debbie's Wellness Triangle: Three Sides of HealthDebbie's Complete Lifestyle approach looks at three essential areas:Physical - Movement, alignment, exercise Chemical - Food, water, air, supplements, medications Emotional - Mental wellbeing and stressKey insight: Stress comes from ANY of these three sides. Poor diet is chemical stress. Lack of movement is physical stress. Anxiety is emotional stress. Your body responds to all of it.Chronic health is preventable through lifestyle. Your body is like a bank account - you can't keep making withdrawals without eventually running poor. The Stress-Hormone ConnectionWhen stressed (physically, chemically, or emotionally):→ Cortisol spikes → Blood sugar becomes erratic → Sleep disrupts → Sex hormones get suppressed (survival mode = no reproduction) → Everything compoundsResult: Exhaustion, weight gain (especially around the middle), mood swings, hormone chaos.Food is 80% of Your HealthStop worrying so much about running every day. Start with your plate. The sugar problem: Modern food is loaded with hidden sugars. When blood sugar constantly spikes and crashes, cortisol works overtime to compensate.Simple rule: Pair sugar with protein (nuts, cheese, eggs) to stabilize blood sugar.Menopause Doesn't Have to Be MiserableHow well you go through perimenopause and menopause depends on your stress levels, diet, movement, sleep, and how you've treated your body up until this point. It's not inevitable that this transition has to be difficult. You Can't Delegate Your HealthGary Barlow's story: Despite success and resources, he found himself struggling with alcohol, weight gain, and low motivation. After seeing his doctor, his first thought walking back to his car was: "Who can I get to do this for me?"Before he reached his car, it hit him: This is the ONE thing only HE could do.He went home, put on trainers, tried to run around the block, and thought he was going to die. But that's where it started. The lesson: You cannot delegate your health. This is JUST ON YOU.Ali's brings the JOY: focus Just On You, That's Joy!Anytime you hear the word JOY, remember: it has to be JUST ON YOU.Your health. Your hormones. Your happiness. Your choices. When you focus on what YOUR body needs, on what brings YOU joy - that's when everything shifts.Practical TakeawaysStart with food - 80% of your healthPair sugar with protein - Stabilizes blood sugar (nuts, cheese, eggs)Stay hydrated - Especially if drinking alcoholAddress stress holistically - Physical, chemical, AND emotionalMake deposits, not just withdrawals - Your body is a bank accountOwn your health - No one can do this for youDebbie's Healthy Hideaway Retreat3-day immersive hormone and lifestyle retreat in January With Debbie Townsend & Kimberly (medical herbalist)Learn how to eat for your hormones, balance cortisol, stabilize blood sugar, sleep well, plus yoga, Pilates, and breathwork. The Joy of knowing YOU are a Master Manifester

You're already a master at manifesting—you've been doing it your whole life. You've manifested your current existence. The question isn't "Can I manifest?" The question is: What do you want to manifest next?In this episode, Ali shares a powerful Love Club Live session from the 11/11 portal, designed to build your confidence in your manifesting abilities. This is the final part of a three-part series on manifestation, and it's all about recognizing the magic you've already created—and using it to create even more.Key Themes✨ You are already a master manifester ✨ The power of being "unreasonably optimistic" ✨ The 5 Questions that prove your manifesting power ✨ The 5 A's Framework for Manifesting As If By MagicThe Big Quote"A pattern I've noticed in successful people: They're all a little bit delusional about their abilities. Not arrogant, just unreasonably optimistic about what they can figure out. While everyone else is listing reasons why something won't work, they're already trying it. Half the time they're wrong, but the other half changes their lives. Reasonable people don't build unreasonable lives."Translation: Be a little bit bonkers. Be a little bit delusional. Be unreasonably optimistic. The 5 Questions to Prove You're Already a Master ManifesterAli guides you through five powerful questions designed to help you see the evidence of your manifesting power:What were your dreams as a young child? What did you imagine for yourself?Where are you living the reality of what was once a dream you never thought possible? Look at your life right now—what "impossible" things have you already manifested? In the miracle of the dream coming true—what was down to you? What actions, beliefs, attitudes did you bring? And what was magic, synchronicity, divine timing? What are your dreams now? Big, small, specific, abstract, watercolor? What do you want? You have dreams you don't even know about yet. How does that make you feel? These questions help you see: you've already manifested incredible things. You just don't give yourself credit for it.The 5 A's: Manifesting As If By Magic FrameworkAli's signature manifesting process:1. ASK - Place your order. What do you want? Be specific (like the exact Apple Watch with the raspberry band) or specific in feeling (I want to be happy).2. ACKNOWLEDGE - Notice the dominant negative thought working against it. Don't ignore it—acknowledge it, then drop it or dissolve it.3. ASSUME - Step into the energy of already having it. Assume the identity of someone who already has what you want.4. ACT - Take inspired action from that assumed energy. When you assume it's already happened, you know what actions got you there.5. ALLOW - Surrender to the universe. Trust the process. Trust the magic. Allow it to unfold in ways that might exceed your expectations.Real Example: The Apple Watch StoryAli wanted the latest Apple Watch with heart monitoring (for health anxiety around palpitations). The delivery wouldn't arrive in time for her London trip. She placed the order anyway, trusting Apple would "blow her mind."Her husband James cancelled the online order—because he'd gone into the Leeds shop and bought her the exact watch she wanted with the exact raspberry pink band she wanted, in time for her trip. That's magic manifesting. Ask, acknowledge doubt, assume it'll work out, act on it, allow the magic to unfold.Key Takeaways→ You're already a master manifester—you just need to recognize it → Be "unreasonably optimistic" about what you can create → Stop being a forensic accountant of your failurhttps://www.alimortimer.com/
