The Rage Pod

We all have rage, and if you don’t think you have it, don’t worry we’ll help you find it. And once you find it, we’ll also help you deal with it. This podcast is the intersection of all the life things (family, love, politics, sports, driving, loud chewing) and rage. Hosted by comedians Tara Erickson and Ebar, they talk to guests (ranging from neuroscientists to divorce experts to athletes to a neighbor) about how rage factors into their various areas of expertise. When they’re not doing that, they’re listening to calls from the rage hotline, screaming into a pillow or checking in with the show’s producer Friendy Wende who’s likely telling them to move on.

Breakup Rage: Why It Hurts & What Not to Do

Breakups are hard, sometimes weird and awkward, even the amicable ones. And everyone has been unhinged over one. If not, congrats, you're perfectly actualized and we would like your recipe for existence. This episode, we talk rage over being blindsided, not being listened to for the 800th time, or being accused of emotional warfare you had no idea about. Along with getting into our own breakup rage, we also explore the science behind why it literally hurts and review some do's and don'ts. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  2. 34

    Miscommunication Rage

Miscommunication is basically a personality trait at this point. People say they want honest communication, but do they really? This episode is a full rant on bad communication, wild assumptions, and how people will literally ruin a relationship instead of asking one clear question.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  3. 33

    Relationship Rage

How do we make romantic relationships work? Does it matter if they snore? (Yes). Does it matter if your cat hates them? (Also, yes.) We get into the nuance of committed relationships and what works for us and what doesn't, what we can live with and what we can't and how Tara might marry you, but she will never, under any circumstance, live with you.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  4. 32

Britney, Tyra, and a Vegan "Pizza Gate" Wedding

We take a break from politics and dive headfirst into pop culture chaos. From Britney’s DUI to Tyra Banks and America’s Next Top Model, to the ultimate rage debate: what’s worse? A fully vegan wedding (no substitutions) or one with no alcohol? (You already know where we land.)  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  5. 31

Kristi Noem, Abortion Rights + DTF St. Louis

From the latest Kristi Noem firing to a listener's write-in about pro-choice/anti-abortion advocacy, we’re raging through the headlines. Ebar pitches a new book club for Noem and Pam Bondi, we discuss HBO's new show, DTF St. Louis, and we bring back C*** of the Week plus a WWYD Rage Report.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  6. 30

Caregiving In America | The Hidden Crisis

Caregiving is holy work. In America? It’s also a fast track to exhaustion, debt, and invisibility. Dr. Erin Kent (UNC-Chapel Hill) breaks down the policy failures that leave families drowning, why we are all “caregivers-in-waiting,” and why it’s time to stop calling caregivers heroes and start cutting them actual checks. Also, we give a status check on 6-7 and how to avoid being an Unc.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  7. 29

    Selective Outrage

A listener slides into our DMs to call us out on what they see as selective outrage around the Epstein files. So, we respond. Whoever was doing f-d up stuff connected to Jeffrey Epstein needs to be held accountable. We’re talking Clinton, Biden, Trump, your friend PJ. Justice isn’t partisan. And if your friend was in there, we’re sorry, PJ’s gotta go. Then we hard left and give out our watch recs: Netflix’s Zero Day, a nostalgic return to The Closer, Eternity, and a charming criminal living in Toys “R” Us (Hi! Channing Tatum) The hat trick of rage, nuance, and streaming recommendations. (Yes, that was a hockey reference. We watched Heated Rivalry.)  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  8. 28

But the Dow Is Up! | Pam Bondi Hearing Reaction

If the Dow is up, does humanity still matter? Tara and Ebar hop on a call to vent about the White Walker that is Pam Bondi, give a much needed salute to the survivors of Epstein, and pitch a few unhinged ideas for solving the issue with the alleged perpetrators using alligators and bingo.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  9. 27

    Epstein & The DOJ Cover-Up

The Epstein Files are unsealed, redactions are everywhere, and while other countries are launching criminal investigations, the U.S. Department of Justice remains silent. Why? In this episode we unleash our big feelings about the latest bombshells, the trauma of the survivors, and the infuriating political protection surrounding these co-conspirators. Plus, we leave a very specific voicemail for Pam Bondi. From the document dump to accountability wins at UCLA, we're exposing the truth.   Support the show: patreon.com/theragepod  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  10. 26

    This Is Not Normal

How do we survive the nonstop news cycle and this reign of geopolitical fuckery? Trauma therapist Logan Cooper (Crooked Counselor Cooper) explains collective trauma, nervous system overload, and real ways to cope when the headlines never stop.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

    Rage Against the Ice Machine

This week we get into the rage that everyone’s feeling around the undeniable murder of Alex Pretti and our new home of gas light city (courtesy of the US government). Also, we breakdown the pros and cons of dating AI and unleash our new Rage Hotline segment “Would You Be Mad?”  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

    Family Ties...Sometimes Should Be Cut

The holidays are over, everyone’s still exhausted and family rage is very much alive. In this episode we unpack holiday meltdowns, lost kids at Legoland, inappropriate childhood traditions, and the very real question of whether family deserves unconditional access to you. From cutting ties with toxic parents to redefining chosen family, we talk boundaries, guilt, emotional pain, and why “but they’re family” isn’t a good enough reason to suffer. If you skipped a gathering, set a boundary, or chose peace over obligation, buy yourself a drink, a blunt or a massage.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hotline Bling: Best of the Rage Hotline

This week, we dig up never-before-heard rage audio and revisit our favorite Rage Hotline calls from the past year. Online dating rage, Thanksgiving disasters, and Ebar and FW’s ill-fated attempt to find Tara a date, all in one unhinged episode.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  14. 22

    Rage Bait

Oxford named rage bait the Word of the Year and honestly, that choice alone rage-baited half the internet. We discuss how anger spreads faster than joy and conclude that outrage has become the world’s most addictive currency. AND, we rage bait ourselves by reading off hate comments left for us and our eyewear. Plus, Tara reveals she’s now carrying an infectious disease so alarming it deserves its own public health billboard.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  15. 21

Pluribus, Toxic Positivity + Adult Volunteer Sports

This week we break down the toxic-positivity fever dream that is Vince Gilligan’s new show Pluribus and the main character’s rarely-contained rage in this shiny new world. Then we ask the real question: why do some adults become absolute a**holes the second a ball gets involved? From rec-league meltdowns to board-game blowups, we’re looking at why people need to be winners so badly.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Thanksgiving: Where Expectations Go to Die and Rage Flourishes

People expect a LOT at the holidays whether they realize it or not. And we're not just talking about the perfect cranberry mold. We're also talking about emotional mold. On this Rage Pod episode, we get into why tiny disappointments feel so much bigger this time of year, why Ebar thinks you should replace your pepper spray for ice skates, and why we keep giving Thanksgiving way more emotional weight than it deserves.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  17. 19

    Thanks For Nothing

I love traveling for Thanksgiving… said no one stuck in TSA lines, budgeting for airfare, or emotionally preparing to sleep in their childhood twin bed under a crocheted afghan of generational trauma. We’re unpacking the true cost of Thanksgiving: financial, emotional, and gastrointestinal, not excluding one Rage Hotline caller’s horrifying tale of turkey-induced salmonella and what we can only imagine ended with that scene from Bridesmaids (minus the dresses).  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  18. 18

    Work Rage

Per our last email, it’s time to circle back on that conversation we put a pin in: our f-ing work rage. From “return to office” mandates to the corporate buzzwords that make you want to mainline ginger pills to the Great Detachment, we’re going to get into why American work culture still makes us rage.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  19. 17

    Sex, Lies & Lily Allen

In this sexy episode, TRP gets into the thick of Lily Allen’s new album, an anti-love letter to David Harbour. We too want to know who the f*ck is Madeline. We also want to know how busy or not people are in a threesome. And we dig into how much sex people are having - no wrong answer. Like we said up top, it's a sexy episode.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  20. 16

    Mini Rager

Welcome to the Mini Rager, where we have the same unhinged energy but in a smaller dose. This Halloween we scare the sh*t out of you with an aggressive mandate to decorate and an even more aggressive response to the PSL scarcity epidemic.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  21. 15

Smash, Scream, Repeat: Moving Rage Out of Our Bodies

We’re back with neuroscientist Dr. Nicole Tetreault, who explains how to literally get rage out of your body without losing your mind. Everyone’s anger looks different and so does everyone’s release. You might find that smashing a bunch of sh*t in a rage room is your nervous system’s best therapy.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  22. 14

Brazen Brood: Activists, Alders, Vets & Voices That Matter

A special COT-Whenever mini-rager. We shout out a BROOD of brazen bada***s working to make the sludge we're living in a humane place. You will want to know these people if you don't already.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  23. 13

Girls Just Wanna Have a Rage Release

We talk to founder of RAGEher, Krissie McMenamin, about her movement/embodiment experience (think a girls night out at the club but as a rage release therapy session). We unpack rageling names, hug doulas and the tempest tavern - signature elements of RAGEher. Also, Ebar and Tara get into some don'ts that might change the way you think about theme parks and threesomes.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  24. 12

    Female Rage Continues

So much female rage that we had to split it into two episodes. Check out the second half of our interview with psychotherapist and best selling author Jennifer Cox ("Women Are Angry") as we discuss how "it all starts in childhood," that some of us need to call our moms c***s and why women get a greenlight to throw a tantrum. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  25. 11

    Group Planning Rage

Just know if you're going to do anything in a group (vacations, dinners, projects), people are going to get irritable. Even if it's a success! That's just part of it. Nothing provokes rage faster than planning a group event with friends or family. Whether it's fly fishing on the coast or vacationing in an Italian villa, the following will emerge: the non-responder, the bossy decider, the one who wants to split the bill ten ways, and the one who always shows up unprepared (we're looking at you, Ebar).   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  26. 10

    Divorce Rage

Sometimes you gotta get that D. Marriages and unions don't always work out and you need to get a divorce. In this week's episode, Ebar and Tara talk to Alex Beattie, a divorce prep coach and founder of The Divorce Planner, who has helped thousands of people prepare in advance of divorce so they save time and money and walk away with confidence instead of rage. Also Ebar and Tara get a divorce and it involves Victor Hugo.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  27. 9

    The Male Loneliness (Non) Epidemic

Why should we care about male loneliness? Because spoiler alert: it's not just a "him" problem. Loneliness doesn't care about your gender. Just like rage, it comes for all of us. In this episode, we seek a path toward herd immunity for the so-called "male loneliness epidemic" and gently (ok, not so gently) encourage men of a certain age to F.I.T.F.O. (Figure It The F*ck Out!)   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  28. 8

    Online Dating Rage

We're swiped out! This week we discuss the rage that ensues from the ghosting, lack of commitment and soft lying we’re experiencing with online dating. Find out our hard passes when it comes to dating and why Tara will never meet you for a coffee date and why it’s a caffeinated yes for Friendy Wende.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  29. 7

    Your Brain On Rage

Neuroscientist Dr. Nicole Tertreault breaks down what happens in our brain and body when rage takes over. From stress hormones to our nervous system to "flight," "fight," “fawn”, and "flop" reactions, we explore the science of anger in this first installment of our Rage Room series with Dr. Tertreault. Also, we find out if Inside Out nailed it or not.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  33. 3

We're Mad and We Want to Talk About It

In this debut episode of The Rage Pod, Tara and Ebar discuss rage with a focus on the female kind.
