The Midlife Pivot: Nutrition, Nervous Systems & New Paths

For our 50th episode, we’re diving into The Midlife Pivot - the moment so many women hit during perimenopause when symptoms, identity and daily life start shifting in ways that just can’t be ignored. Our guest, Zo, shares how her journey began during lockdown with dry mouth, 3am wake‑ups and hot flushes, and how not being able to take HRT pushed her to explore other forms of support. She talks about using her background in nutrition and going back to basics with nutrient‑dense foods, the power of nervous system regulation, and how EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) became a lifeline. We also explore the importance of community, why workplaces need to understand menopause better and how Zo now supports women through groups, 1:1 work and corporate consulting - see below to find out more. A grounded, practical and deeply human conversation - and the perfect way to mark 50 episodes of honest, real‑life storytelling. Menstrual Rhythms & the Path to Elderhood

In this week’s episode, we explore how the menstrual cycle shapes, guides and ultimately carries us toward the threshold of our elder years. Our guest, Rushna, shares her 25‑year journey with menstruality - beginning with a chance discovery in an astrological journal and unfolding into a lifelong practice of tracking her monthly bleed, honouring her inner seasons and learning to live in rhythm with her body. We talk about the shift from monthly bleeding into the midlife transition and how perimenopause is far more than a hormonal storm - it’s a profound rite of passage. A crossing. A calling into elderhood. We explore the power of women supporting each other, the importance of community over isolation and the growing movement of women reclaiming their lived experience as wisdom. Rushna also shares her current work: drumming workshops, circle facilitation and the Rose Academy - a 13‑week transformational programme for women, with retreats in Devon and online offerings on the way. The Messy Middle: Perimenopause, Parenting & Presence

In this week’s episode of Wild Wise and Curious, we are joined by Laura, calling in from Spain, for a beautifully honest conversation about navigating perimenopause while parenting teenagers and managing the realities of single‑parent life. Laura shares how she first recognised she was entering perimenopause when her period became increasingly irregular over eleven months, followed by brain fog and memory challenges that made daily life feel heavier. She talks openly about the coping strategies that help her stay grounded - meditation, mindfulness practices and writing exercises that support her emotional well-being. The conversation also explores the complexities of parenting teens, setting boundaries and practicing patience, especially while working from home and carrying the mental load alone. Laura discusses her practical tools... like keeping to-do lists, staying present with family and the deeper emotional work of offering oneself compassion during difficult seasons. It’s a tender, relatable and deeply human episode about holding many roles at once - and finding moments of steadiness in the middle of it all.   To find out more about what Laura is up to, check out her info & website below: Laura Brodie is an Operations and Outreach Coordinator, Resilience Trainer, and facilitator specialising in emotional regulation and performance under pressure. The Body Knows: Navigating Perimenopause With Ritual and Rhythm

Perimenopause often arrives quietly, disguised as something ordinary - a restless night, a stressful week, a sudden wave of heat you put down to a new deodorant. In this episode, Angie shares her personal journey into recognising those early signs for what they truly were: the beginning of a profound hormonal transition. We talk about the moment of realisation, the overlap between perimenopause and her work in women’s health, and how supporting rites‑of‑passage ceremonies deepened her understanding of this life stage. From drumming to sleep rituals to stepping away from alcohol, Angie opens up about the self‑care practices that help her stay grounded. And woven through it all is the reminder that listening to the body, making space for expression, and sharing stories with other women can transform this transition from something endured into something deeply held. When Your Body Won’t Stay Quiet: A Perimenopause Story of Anxiety, Electricity, Numbness and Finding Your Own Answers

This week, Kerstin shares a story that began with a body in distress and a mind trying to make sense of it. She experienced heart palpitations, shortness of breath, adrenaline‑rush reactions to food and almost fainted at work. She also had an electrical sensation in her chest that eventually led to a small cardiac procedure. When she finally saw a cardiologist, he told her, ‘Women can get this in perimenopause’, and it was the first time anything she was experiencing made sense. Alongside the physical symptoms came something she didn’t expect: emotional numbness. She didn’t feel anything - no joy, no sadness, no spark - and the flatness left her feeling... nothing. With no guidance from her mum, who’d had a hysterectomy in her 30s and never went through natural menopause, Kerstin had no roadmap. Her symptoms fed into health anxiety and she became convinced something was seriously wrong with her. In this episode, Kerstin talks about the anxiety, the numbness, the impact on her marriage and the frustration of being dismissed or left without answers. She also shares the relief she found through hormone therapy and lifestyle changes, and why she now believes women deserve far better information and support. This is an episode for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed, numb or anxious about symptoms they didn’t recognise - and for anyone who has had to find their own answers when no one else could give them. *There are a couple of moments of lag and the odd bark from the dog, but none of it takes away from the importance of adding Kerstin’s voice to the growing chorus of women whose stories need to be heard so they can help others find their way.

Sea Swimming, Somatic Healing and Supper Clubs: A Midlife Re‑Rooting

Dani’s midlife turning point didn’t arrive with the classic symptoms - it arrived through tension at home. What she jokingly calls 'teenage 1.0 versus teenage 2.0' became the moment she realised something deeper was shifting inside her. That moment opened the door to understanding perimenopause and sparked a deeper journey into holistic healing and self‑reconnection. In this beautifully honest conversation, Dani shares how somatic healing, drumming circles and cold sea swimming helped her regulate, soften and return to herself. She talks about the supper clubs that began around her friend’s kitchen table and have since grown into a thriving community space - with dreams of a tea room rooted in nourishment and connection. This is a story about starting small, listening to your body, and letting midlife become a powerful re‑rooting. A remembering. A reclaiming. A return to who you were always becoming.   To find out more about what Dani is up to, check out her website, mother-daughter podcast and socials below: Website: www.warmthandwellness.co.uk Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61569320312494 Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/warmth.and.wellness?igsh=MXhhMzV2cDdodnZneQ== Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556012971637 Blog: https://blog.danishiftingtides.com/blog-661355 Dodwell dialogue (mother-daughter podcast - also available on Spotify)  https://www.youtube.com/@danidodwell4627  https://www.instagram.com/dodwelldialoguepodcast/ Dani & her friend, Katie, who run the supper club together, have signed up with a small local, female-owned tea business, Mother_Cuppa, to serve Candice's (Mother Cuppa creator) tea blends at their supper clubs. From Cool, Calm & Collected to Hot, Bothered & Wide Awake... Learning to Breathe Through the Plot Twists

At 52, everything Rowena thought she knew about her body suddenly changed. Her period due date wasn’t her period due date anymore, her sleep vanished for three relentless months, her mental health crashed and even mindfulness - the thing she teaches - wasn’t touching the sides. We talk about the shock of perimenopause simply arriving, the frustration of being told ‘this coil will stop your periods’ (it didn’t), and the way midlife can make women feel invisible - even though in many cultures, women at this stage of life are treasured. And woven through it all is something deeply Rowena: she has never conformed to what society thought she should do. Not in her work, not in her choices, not in how she moves through the world. So when her body threw her a plot twist, she met it with honesty, humour, rebellion and a determination to find her own way through. This conversation is warm, funny and proper relatable. We explore: the moment her body changed the rules why menopause education needs to start in schools how she stopped caring what people think the hippie humour, honesty and wisdom that carried her through and how she’s slowly finding her way back to something softer, steadier and way more grounded Rowena is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Mindfulness Practitioner and Midlife/Menopause Coach, blending holistic tools with lived experience to support others through their own midlife plot twists. Thirty‑Nine Drums and a Permission Shift in Midlife

In this episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, we explore what it feels like to experience a permission shift in midlife - the moment you start choosing differently, listening inward and treating your body with the care it’s been asking for all along. Our guest, Nix, talks about being in a deeply curious place: noticing how her body responds, how it communicates and how rest becomes something to value rather than something to earn. We explore acceptance, self‑worth and the quiet confidence that comes from tuning in rather than pushing through. We also dive into the story of how a single drumming session at a retreat sparked something unexpected - leading from one drum to thirty‑nine and the creation of a local drumming circle that just keeps on growing. It’s a conversation about rhythm, permission, curiosity and the small midlife shifts that change everything (and every time we write permission - we think percussion - ha ha ha). 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts 📺 Or watch the conversation unfold as a video podcast over on YouTube To reach out to Nix:  https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1FS1SBVdCK/?mibextid=wwXIfr   https://www.facebook.com/Enkindlelifecoaching   https://www.instagram.com/enkindlelifecoaching   https://www.enkindlelifecoaching.com/drumcircles   https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-m8PZy7qVP6L46L7LHmFJScnZRd7F4UZ&si=i4hlPHkIZeuMdoLN

After the Euphoria: When Motherhood, Menopause & Life Collide

In this episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, we meet Sarah and explore how life’s experiences can quietly - and sometimes radically - alter the trajectory of our lives. Sarah shares what it was like becoming a mum again at 40, the joy and euphoria of welcoming her youngest child and the shock of perimenopause arriving soon after. What followed was a profound crash: a body that suddenly felt like it was crumbling, all while caring for a young family and managing emotions tied to a deeply personal time in her life. We talk honestly about physical symptoms - aches and pains, fatigue, hair and muscle loss, erratic periods - and the emotional toll of trying to make sense of it all when you didn’t even realise perimenopause was a thing. There’s also a beautiful thread of connection running through this episode, as Sarah reflects on navigating this journey alongside her twin sister, and how shared understanding, stress, life experience and support, shape the way we move through this stage. It’s also where we begin to see the seeds of why Sarah eventually trained as a hypnotherapist - a way to steady her own anxiety and better understand the inner worlds of the people she loves. This is a conversation about motherhood, menopause, resilience and the weight many women hold by midlife - and that quiet (and sometimes noisy) strength it takes to keep going. 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts 📺 Or watch the conversation unfold as a video podcast on YouTube To reach out to Sarah: Website:         www.yourbestmind.co.uk Email:             [email protected]   FB:                 https://www.facebook.com/yourbestmindhypnotherapy LI:                   https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarahlcowardhypnotherapist Insta:             https://www.instagram.com/your.best.mind/?hl=en

Miss Trunchball Sweats, Peanut Butter Brain Fog & More... Six Perimenopause Stories We Didn’t See Coming.

In this episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, our guest, Tina, does something we absolutely LOVE - she makes sense of perimenopause by categorising her experiences into six very memorable themes. Meet: Miss Trunchbull Sweats Peanut Butter Brain Fog Tom Selleck Facial Hair Hey Macarena Skin Itching Pilates' Nails Volcano Spots (Yes. Really.) What unfolds is part confessional, part comedy, part deep nodding-along-in-recognition. Lou says it feels like a book. Michelle says it’s more like a lucky dip. We’re not really sure which it is - probably both - but we are sure it’s most definitely relatable! This episode is about finding language for the weird, the uncomfortable and the downright baffling changes our bodies go through - and discovering that naming them can bring relief, laughter and connection. Forgetting Suitcases & The Invisible Weight We Carry - Perimenopause, Identity, HRT and Pretty Much Everything Else!

In this episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, we’re joined by the lovely Sara Joyner - a former midwife and now a British Menopause Society and Newson Health trained HRT clinician - for an honest, funny and all round great conversation. Sara shares what it was like moving through perimenopause in her early 40s, at a time when awareness was extremely limited. She reflects on feeling 'too young' to be there, quietly grappling with ageing, loss of attractiveness and the invisible weight so many women carry - often without realising why. We talk about women’s health, menopause, mental wellbeing, science, HRT and the deep social conditioning that shapes how we see ourselves as our bodies begin to change. Alongside the big stuff, we also talk about the very real day-to-day moments - forgetting words, losing your train of thought… and yes, even leaving a suitcase on a train. As ever, the conversation goes everywhere (and we mean everywhere). Warm and full of laughter, this is one many of us will see ourselves in. 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts 📺 Or watch the conversation unfold as a video podcast on YouTube Check out Sara on Instagram: @menopausemasteryhub and on Facebook @SaraJoyner

Erratic Cycles, Forgetting Words and Finally Singing My Own Songs

What happens when perimenopause doesn’t arrive with a bang… but arrives in a whisper? In this episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, we’re chatting with Ruth, a woman in her early 40s whose perimenopause journey began quietly - so quietly she barely noticed at first. A changing cycle. A period tracker suddenly asking about pregnancy tests. Forgetting words mid-sentence.  And then there were the symptoms you don’t always hear about: itchy ears (apparently a thing!), itchy nipples, odd crawling sensations on the skin, subtle mood shifts - and that familiar moment of wondering, is this normal… or is this peri too? We laugh about Dr Google (helpful? terrifying?), compare itchy-ear experiences (Lou feels like her dog trying to scratch an itch she just can’t reach, Michelle’s itchy ears make her sneeze), and we talk about how symptoms can come and go - making it even harder to join the dots. We also dig into the importance of advocating for ourselves when we see a GP: tracking symptoms, knowing what you want to say and trusting that just because something feels subtle doesn’t mean it isn’t real. Alongside the bodily stuff, our guest shares how this phase has shaped her creativity too. A singer-songwriter who’s done with compromising, she talks about slowing down, taking more control and making work that feels more authentic - even if it takes longer. Paying attention to the inner voice and choosing to do things her way. Her simple, grounding mantras say it all: ‘I can do hard things’ and ‘This isn’t going to kill me’. Words to come back to when the symptoms feel strange and the body does something else you weren't expecting! Honest, reassuring and quietly empowering - this one’s for anyone who’s ever thought, oh… maybe that’s peri as well. Unapologetically Herself: Menopause as a Return to Power

Cate returns to Wild, Wise & Curious for Episode 2, and once again brings her grounded, goddess-like presence to the conversation. We first met Cate at Barefoot Festival in the summer of 2025 and were immediately drawn to her way of being - deeply embodied, unapologetically herself and rooted in wisdom. Still in the midst of her own perimenopause (day 43 of no period… maybe today, maybe next week, maybe never), Cate is passionate about reframing menopause - not as something to endure or fix, but as a Rite of Passage. A time when the focus shifts away from fertility, pleasing others, or meeting society’s expectations and back to something far more powerful: remembering who you are. Together, we explore why menopause is so often framed as negative, how much resistance we carry to not feeling like we used to, and what happens when we stop fighting the change. Cate shares how her work is centred on helping women tap back into themselves - peeling away layers, softening into flow and stepping into a more honest, powerful way of being. This is a conversation about coming home to yourself, shedding what no longer fits, and reclaiming your voice, energy and truth. And we’re certain this won’t be the last time Cate joins us - Episode 3, 4, 5 and beyond feel inevitable (and we're very excited about that). Conversations on a Twinkly Autumn Narrowboat: Questions, Confusion & Curiosity About Perimenopause

In this cosy autumn episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, we chat with Charlotte - a narrowboater joining us from her twinkly canal home as fireworks crackle in the Diwali night sky. Though we’re not there in person (sadly!), the warmth of the conversation travels across the water. Charlotte had never even heard the word perimenopause until a friend mentioned it, and like so many women, she’s now full of questions. Together, we talk through some of them - from brain fog and breast tenderness to periods, coils, HRT and yes, even dry vaginas (and how do we even know what a normal vagina is, when many of us only have our own as reference?). It’s a funny, open and honest conversation about what it means to stand on the threshold of perimenopause at 39 - with no roadmap, little education and a whole lot of curiosity. As we remind Charlotte (and our listeners), we’re not experts - we’re just women figuring it out together, learning from the stories we share on and off the podcast. So, grab a blanket, imagine the gentle rock of the canal and settle in for a chat that’s as real as it is reassuring.   Show Notes: * There are some areas of feedback and as mentioned above, fireworks popping off during this episode.

Finding a Holistic Path Through Chemical & Surgical Menopause After Cancer

In this episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, we hear from Tash, who was just 34 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Chemotherapy brought on a chemical menopause, and soon after, genetic testing revealed the BRCA gene — leading to surgery and a surgical menopause in quick succession. With little guidance from medical professionals, Tash turned to her sister-in-law — who had undergone a total hysterectomy after her own early diagnosis — for support and practical guidance. Today, they run a support group for women navigating early and surgical menopause, providing the community and conversation they once needed themselves. Tash shares how she is trying to embrace a holistic life while navigating the ongoing changes: simplifying daily demands as much as possible while raising four children, staying positive when energy is low, making mindful choices about what goes in and onto her body, and finding strength in movement — including training for a half marathon. This episode is a grounded, honest conversation about navigating chemical and surgical menopause after cancer, highlighting how self-awareness, community, and holistic practices can help women move forward with clarity and resilience. Perimenopause: Learning to Rest, Learning to Rise

Episode Blurb: Our guest, Claudia, shares her journey through the often confusing landscape of perimenopause. For years, it felt like a process of elimination — heightened anxiety, forgetfulness and shifts that didn’t seem tied to her period. “I didn’t even know what perimenopause was,” she admits. Over time, Claudia began piecing things together: planning her life in line with her cycles, leaning into her energy when she felt dynamic and allowing herself to rest — or even cancel plans — when she didn’t. What began as survival grew into a deeper connection with the natural world and with herself. Claudia also reflects on her career pivots — from HR to paralegal, and now embracing the Reiki she had studied years earlier, not knowing why. Today, that early curiosity makes sense, as she steps into the work that truly lights her up. Her story is a reminder that when we stop forcing what doesn’t fit and start following our bliss, we make space for renewal, possibility and joy.

The House Within: A Journey Back to Joy

Episode Blurb: When perimenopause arrived, Emily felt as though the map of her life had been snatched away. Her energy waned, emotions surged and the life she once knew no longer fit. Searching for a way forward, she turned inward — not realising that what she’d discover would transform everything. In this soulful and inspiring conversation, Emily shares how navigating the shadows of midlife led her to discover her “inner house” — a sacred space of truth, creativity and joy. Guided by her higher self, she began writing a book, composing music and — most movingly — returning to a lifelong love of singing. Though she hadn’t sung since childhood, reconnecting with her voice opened a new chapter of expression and aliveness. Today, she leads singing circles, is preparing to publish her first book, and has recorded two albums that reflect her radiant spirit. This story is full of life, hope, and the courage to begin again.   Show Notes: You can find out more about Emily's journey and her offerings over on her website www.emilydoe.com Emily also talks about Human Design - Ra Uru Hu

Early Periods, Ablation & Panic Attacks. When Did Peri Really Begin?

Sarah started her periods at 9. Years later, she had a uterine ablation to manage heavy bleeding — and then, in her late 30s, everything began to shift. Mood swings, vertigo, anxiety, an internal thermostat gone rogue, and a nervous system that completely rejected driving in the dark. In 2019, she was told it was perimenopause. But a question kept nagging: Did the ablation bring it on early? Or did it all start long before — with a body that switched on far too soon? Our guest — a radio DJ, teacher, and mum of three boys — shares her raw and honest journey through unexpected hormonal chaos and the challenge of navigating it all without HRT. She’s not against HRT, but feels that if this transition is inevitable, it might as well be faced now rather than put off. Told with sharp humour and vulnerability, it’s a story of learning how many ways women can fall apart — and how we somehow start piecing it all back together. 🔥 Expect real talk, raw honesty, and plenty of “why didn’t anyone tell me this?” moments. ⚠️ Warning: May cause moments of “OH MY GOD, ME TOO.”

From Rage to Renewal: One Woman’s Brave Midlife Awakening

This week on Wild, Wise & Curious, we meet Lainey, who hit her breaking point—and then chose to rebuild. A seasoned therapist, she had all the tools... but when rage and emotional chaos took over, even her best practices weren’t enough. After trying HRT and realising it wasn’t her path, a chance encounter with Dr. David Hamilton’s work on How Your Mind Can Heal Your Body flipped a vital switch. What followed? Surgical Menopause: Thrown In, Speaking Out...

What happens when menopause doesn’t knock gently, but kicks the flipping front door down? In this powerful episode, we meet Lisa—a woman who was catapulted into surgical menopause overnight, with no roadmap, no guidance and a body she no longer recognised. Now, she’s part of a team supporting thousands of women through their own surgical menopause journeys—making sure no one is left in the dark the way she was. Because no one knows if they—or someone they love—could be thrust into surgical menopause at any moment. Festival Special: Through the Fog – Grief, Hormones & the Healing Path

In this Wild, Wise & Curious Festival Special, we invite you into the heart of Barefoot Festival, where we shared a magical, intimate moment inside a bell tent with one of the most soul-stirring women we’ve had the joy to sit with. Surrounded by jingling bells, drifting melodies from nearby stages and the earthy energy of the festival, we talked with Cate, a radiant woman & women’s circle facilitator and devoted mother to her 'tribe'. Cate’s navigating the deep waters of perimenopause, the uncertainty of epilepsy symptoms and the heartbreak of profound, stacked grief—having lost her father and her mother within weeks of each other - and then several others close to her in a short period. Always one to turn to the natural and the mystical, this chapter also called her to something different: antidepressants, self-compassion, and 'nanna naps'. With HRT off the table due to a family history of breast cancer, she’s finding her way—feet growing (literally, a size and a half!), spirit deepening and heart wide open.  This conversation is festival-soaked, full of laughter, truth, raw vulnerability and womanly wisdom. Cate reminds us what it means to walk through the fog and still reach for the light. To find out more about Cate who is a tarot reader, spiritual coach, best selling author and who offers monthly online women's circles, please visit her website - https://www.catemcmurray.co.uk/   Show Notes Just a heads up... there is some strong language - but that's nothing new on our show.

Through the Ages: A Mother-Daughter Talk on Hormones, Hair Loss & Hanging Out

In this warm, honest, and laugh-out-loud episode, a mother and daughter share their very different journeys through perimenopause and beyond. One navigated anxiety, aching bones, and exhaustion—struggling to get out of bed—before finding relief and renewed energy, mostly thanks to HRT, with testosterone making the biggest difference. The other recalls a time when her periods were all over the place, long before kids and big life changes, and burning sanitary pads on the fire was just how it was done. Together, they explore: The emotional and physical highs and lows of shifting hormones How mental health and hormones intersect, and the difference treatment can make The pressure of aging in a world obsessed with youth and perfection Men’s quieter, often overlooked hormonal changes Finding confidence, joy, and strength in your own skin—at every age A heartfelt, hilarious conversation about aging, identity and the shared experiences that connect generations of women.

Finding the Words: Periods, Pregnancy & Perimenopause (Maybe)

In this remote episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, we connect with Sarah — a British woman living in the U.S, who only recently discovered the word perimenopause… at age 50. Until she stumbled across this very podcast, it simply wasn’t on her radar. After removing her coil, Sarah was suddenly hit with intense, heavy periods that felt like a flashback to her teenage years. She’s not sure if she’s in perimenopause — and that’s exactly what makes her story so powerful. From fertility struggles, a miscarriage and an emotionally complicated pregnancy, to the silence surrounding women’s health in both the UK and the U.S, Sarah brings warmth, honesty and a generous dose of humour to the conversation. This isn’t a symptom checklist — it’s a lived experience. One that reminds us how easy it is to be left in the dark about our own health, and how powerful it is when we start to speak up.   ⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode includes discussion of miscarriage and a complicated pregnancy, which may be sensitive or triggering for some listeners. Please take care while listening. A quick heads-up as well: this was recorded remotely with our guest joining us from the U.S, so you may notice a little echo or audio feedback at times. Thanks for bearing with us — it’s worth it for the story.

The Garden of Change: Growing Through What I Didn’t See Coming!

In this episode of Wild, Wise & Curious, we meet Dawn, whose early reproductive years were smooth—regular periods, minimal discomfort and no issues while on the pill. But in her 40s, things began to shift: mood changes, ovulation pain, joint aches, itchy skin, UTIs, tummy pain and brain fog. While caring for her unwell mother, Dawn began to feel increasingly disconnected from her own body. Unaware she was entering perimenopause, she was told she was “depressed”, but she knew it was something more. Starting HRT offered some relief, but even that brought its own challenges. Through it all, Dawn found strength in the things that brought her back to herself—gardening, being in nature, reflexology, monthly massages and singing with her beloved community choir, Groby Sings. A breathwork retreat, aromatherapy oils and reconnecting with her senses all became part of her healing toolkit. This is an honest, empowering conversation about self-trust, resilience and finding joy and grounding in the middle of life’s biggest transition.

Left in the Dark: One Woman’s Story of the Hidden Impact of Surgical Menopause

After years of heavy periods, endometriosis and passing clots, our guest, Jill, underwent a hysterectomy at just 44—only to be thrust into surgical menopause with no information, no guidance and no idea what to expect. In this honest and eye-opening episode, Jill shares the reality no one warned her about: the hormonal chaos, the mental health crash, the physical changes—including having to learn how to go to the toilet again—and the emotional toll of being completely unprepared. Jill opens up about slathering on too much HRT, going cold turkey and the grief of losing not only her job, but friendships too. Yet in the aftermath, she’s become a fierce advocate—dropping leaflets at her GP’s office and speaking out so that others don’t have to face surgical menopause alone. Now, she’s finding her footing through movement, sound baths, supplements and the right HRT balance. Jill's story is raw, real and a powerful reminder that while every menopause journey is different, none of them should be faced in silence.   Show Notes: Maisie Hill's book - Powerful

Creativity, Clarity & the Midlife Rite of Passage

In this episode, we sit down with Luanne to talk about the powerful shift many women experience during perimenopause and beyond—a time marked by deeper reflection, rising creativity and a stronger sense of purpose. Luanne introduces us to Konenki, a Japanese word that beautifully captures this stage of life as a meaningful rite of passage. With children growing older for those who have them, and more mental space available, many women find their creative energy not just returning, but expanding. Time begins to feel more precious and we start choosing more intentionally—how we spend it and who we spend it with. This isn’t the end of something—it’s the beginning of a richer, more intentional chapter.   Show Notes: Hagitude; Reimagining the Second Half of Life

In today’s episode, we’re joined by the radiant Helen, who is right in the heart of perimenopause — and allowing this transition to reshape her life in the most unexpected and beautiful ways. From sending memes in the family WhatsApp group that capture the chaos and comedy of it all, to tuning in deeply to her body’s needs, Helen shares her raw, real-time reflections on what it means to slow down, re-centre and reconnect. We talk about the power of rest, the importance of asking “how am I really feeling?”, and the energetic shifts that come with this season of life. Along the way, Helen has rediscovered her creative fire—returning to her art, leaning more deeply into the spiritual and energy practices she’s cultivated over time, and even stepping into modelling and acting. This is a conversation about the mess and the magic of midlife, the quiet rebirthing of self and the joyful permission to evolve in your own time, on your own terms.

Reflections, Recharge & Real Talk — Live from Snowdonia with Love!

This episode was recorded in the breathtaking Snowdonia National Park — surrounded by mountains, sunshine (yes, really) and lots of tea and snacks. Just the two of us this time, catching up and reflecting on the incredible women we’ve been so lucky to talk to over the past few months. Every guest has brought something different, left us speechless in their own way and reminded us just how powerful shared stories can be. We chat about our own journeys too — the messy middle of midlife, the things we’ve tried - hello journaling, those hot air balloon moments... the importance of building our batteries for social occasions and how everything is complex... but joy still deserves space. A big deep breath of an episode — part gratitude, part ramble, all heart.   Show Notes: If you fancy a scrummy break in Snowdonia - check out the absolute gem Lou and I stayed in here - https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/22712282?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR7DhtTz5tv2tftFOoSySLoysPO2X4MRdCTQztL1GphxXWfy_p9flujsAPIKCg_aem_MUHGTx3zzm9liJtJHCq8Sw&unique_share_id=afdf3a29-ef9e-4f16-ab87-300345f12d86&slcid=7fe52ad9f87b4598bab22565c7f91403&s=42&feature=sharing&channel=com.google.android.apps.docs&slug=2Sgv0diJ&source_impression_id=p3_1746299662_P3ZYofpoeQlVwitT

Post-Menopause and Grateful: How We Got Through It Together!

In this warm and honest episode, a group of longtime friends—now in their 60s and 70s, and well into post-menopause—share their journey through the intense, messy and often misunderstood world of perimenopause. Without using HRT, they faced a tidal wave of symptoms: unbearable breast tenderness, heavy and unpredictable periods, period pain that stopped them in their tracks, brain fog, night sweats, mood swings and more. Wearing white was out of the question and daily life often felt like a guessing game. But what carried them through wasn’t hormone support—it was conversation. Over years of chats, walks, cups of tea and quiet check-ins, they supported each other every step of the way. Now, from the calm on the other side, they reflect with deep gratitude on how friendship got them through.

Unpacking the Baggage: The Emotional Work of Letting Go Through Perimenopause

'Perimenopause plummeted me.' That’s how Amy describes the early days of her journey—when brain fog, anxiety and emotional overwhelm left her feeling like a stranger to herself. From crying mid-dog walk to struggling to trust her own mind, Amy’s story will resonate with anyone who's found themselves lost in the chaos of midlife change. For many women, it’s the hormonal shifts of perimenopause that stir up the baggage we’ve been carrying—old stories, unresolved pain and expectations that no longer fit. Still navigating perimenopause, Amy is also doing the deeper work: facing those heavy bags she’s carried and gently putting down what no longer serves her. The emotional baggage that’s been quietly building up now demands to be unpacked and Amy is courageously answering the call. Through therapy, self-awareness, and a willingness to release that baggage, Amy’s beginning to feel lighter, freer and more aligned with who she is becoming. This episode is a powerful reminder that perimenopause, while challenging, can be the catalyst for shedding the past and embracing a more authentic future. Show Notes: Amy's Thoughts... The HRT Carousel, the Hormone Blame Game and Banging the Drum for All Women!

In this episode, we’re talking to Kelly, who’s been navigating the unpredictable world of perimenopause—and let’s just say, it’s been a bit of a ride. Every GP visit means a new brand of HRT, leaving Kelly feeling like she’s stuck in a never-ending cycle of trial and error. But rather than just getting frustrated, she’s using her experiences to raise awareness. Kelly’s on a mission to get people talking about perimenopause because, frankly, too many people are still clueless about what women go through during this time. With a fire in her belly and a no-holds-barred attitude, she’s not afraid to bang the drum for more recognition and understanding. From fluctuating hormones to the emotional rollercoaster, Kelly is speaking out to anyone who will listen. Unexpected Transitions: Navigating Cancer, Early Menopause and the Lack of Support with Reproductive Health

In this episode, we dive into the powerful journey of Rhonda, who, in her 30s, was thrust into early menopause following cancer treatment - before she had the chance to start a family. Despite facing this unexpected transition, Rhonda was never given the support she needed to process the profound emotional and physical changes, particularly surrounding her reproductive health.   This conversation sheds light on the lack of resources and understanding for women going through similar experiences, as well as the need for more compassionate care during such a life altering time. Rhonda's story is a testament to resilience, strength, and the ability to rebuild and thrive, even in the face of profound challenges. We explore the complexities of navigating life after cancer and early menopause, and the importance of support, not just for physical recovery, but for emotional well-being and the personal choices women are often forced to make without adequate guidance.

'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...' Did Dickens write this about perimenopause?

In this episode, we hear the inspiring story of Holly and her journey so far with perimenopause. While there have been challenges along the way, Holly shares how she's navigating the ups and downs and learning to embrace the changes, rediscover herself and stepping into this new chapter with confidence and empowerment. Along the way, Holly delves into Sharon Blackie's Hagitude (a fabulous, empowering read), reflecting on how this philosophy of 'reimagining this second half of life', has deeply resonated with her. Holly's story is a powerful reminder that even in the toughest times, there’s room for growth, transformation, and the opportunity to become the best version of yourself. Tune in for a heartfelt conversation about embracing life’s transitions, finding strength in the process, and discovering the beauty of Hagitude. Holly also brought along with her, the famous opening from Charles Dickens' novel, A Tale of Two Cities. We challenge you to read it and not think it's about perimenopause! ‘It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”   Show notes: Hagitude... Ever wonder if Barbarella, in perimenopause, wore a twin set that was perfect for yoga-ing or jogging? No? Us neither.

This episode starts with a quote by the powerhouse that is Jane Fonda; 'We're still living the old paradigm of age as an arch, that's the old metaphor, you're born, you peek at midlife and decline into decrepitude, but a more appropriate metaphor for ageing is a staircase, the upward ascension of the human spirit bringing us into wisdom, wholeness and authenticity.' We'll certainly be taking the stairs from here!   We also delve into... What clothing is considered too young for 'our' age? More perimenopausal and menopausal women represented in films and on TV, please! Flexing our compassion muscles Healing circles, anyone? And much more.        Oh... and twenty other ways to say 'Absolutely'.   Jane Fonda was Barbarella in the 1968 controversial film of the same name. At the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, she said of the film that she; "took the easy road for a while" with roles she now considers to be less than flattering.
