159: Working through Big Feelings about the Upcoming School Year

from MUVE Forward · host Michelle Wolfe

On today’s episode I’m talking about working through the big feelings we’re all experiencing about the upcoming school year, and how to work through these. First off, there have been many times in my life where I was scared to move forward because I thought that if I made a decision, that would have to be how it remained - so know that you’re not alone in these feelings. But in reality, you have the power and the freedom to make at change at any time - about any choice you make! And this school year is no different. No matter what decision you make for September with regards to your children’s care or education, know that your intuition is guiding you to make the right choice at that moment for your family - and if the time comes where that decision needs to be shifted, this is valid!! Be prepared, to be unprepared. On this episode we dive into: Moving through the (many) outside opinions from friends or family about our decisions. Normalizing our fears and uncertainty of what’s to come. Positive daily habits to start incorporating in your child’s life to support them and validate their feelings. Creating a solid plan to support your child through their big feelings or when uncomfortable situations arise for them (and then clearly communicating this plan with them). Finding coping mechanisms for everyone in your home. The take-home: Feelings of fear and uncertainly about how this Fall is going to play out are (more than) normal to be experiencing right now. But know that you also don’t have to sit in these feelings for too long. Although it’s healthy to feel them and acknowledge them, it’s also a good practise move past them. Not just for ourselves as we navigate this time, but also for our littles. Know that you can assess and change your decision at any time, so use this as your security blanket. No one can truly know the right decision to make right now, but we’re all just doing our best to survive through it. So be kind to one another, and trust your judgment.
