239: Finding Your Voice With Elissa Weinzimmer

from MUVE Forward · host Michelle Wolfe

On today’s episode, I chat with Elissa Weinzimmer, a performer turned director who shares her experience of overcoming the loss of her voice - literally! From a very young age, Elissa had always been a performer. In her college years, she found herself “doing it all” while she could, which resulted in her having a vocal hemorrhage, acid reflux, and muscle tension dysphonia. Although Elissa was told to take one month of vocal rest she refused to let this hold her back from continuing her journey in working in the arts! “I want to help people prevent what I went through so that they can have a happy and healthy voice that doesn't break down on them.”Elissa now shares her story, knowledge, and experience to help others going through similar things! On this episode we dive into: Muscle tension dysphonia: what causes it and how to prevent it.Throat chakras and how to balance them.Finding your voiceListening to your bodyThe anatomy of the throatBody and emotional connection The take-home: Elissa credits her newfound voice to the experience she had, in completely losing it. Ranging from singers to lawyers and even physiotherapists, she uses her knowledge to help all those who are struggling. Finding your voice can be something we all struggle with at different times in our lives. Whether it’s speaking up for ourselves or having the ability to hold our tongue in moments where it might be best to - there are always ways for us to help ourselves find a balance, and Elissa shares advice on how to do that! “If we don’t authentically express ourselves, we end up clogging ourselves in a way - or, we end up feeling spent.” Every moment is an opportunity warriors, and balance can be found in each one! Get in touch with Elissa Weinzimmer: Business Instagram: @voicebodyelissaElissa’s Website: https://www.voicebodyconnection.comFacebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/voicebodyconnection/—Get in touch with Michelle: The Muve Collective: www.themichellewolfe.com** For a limited time only $50 discount code "Muve50" for the yearly subscription.
