ANXIETY

from Intelligent Intoxication · host Terri Bradway

In this podcast and book, both entitled Anxiety Rx, Dr. Russell Kennedy offers a different perspective when it comes to managing what we refer to as “anxiety”.  Here are a few of the takeaways from Kennedy’s work that have profoundly impacted how I manage anxiety and take care of myself: Your mind gets fearful of the future and creates worries, what if’s, and worse scenarios. Your body may hold onto past traumas in the form of A.L.A.R.M.S.: Abuse Loss Abandonment Rejection Mature Too Soon  Shame When your body is in A.L.A.R.M.S. your mind tries to make sense of these physical sensations by creating intrusive, struck anxious thoughts.  The only place to connect to your soul or most authentic self in the present moment.  Our real work becomes regulating our bodies when triggered, giving ourselves what we need now or needed “back then”, and then learning to manage our Inner Critics in the present moment in order to clear the way to re-connect with our truest self.  I invite you to consider these questions: When do you notice your body experiencing A.L.A.R.M.S.? How willing are you to learn how to regulate your nervous system? How do you respond to anxious, intrusive thoughts?
