Before the Ending of the Day (Ep 65)

from PocketNeif Podcast · host Mike Neifert

The Church of England's Night Prayer (Compline) was the inspiration for the song I'm sharing with you in this episode. I will admit, my words went far afield from the original. (My apologies to my CoE brothers and sisters in Christ.) What I offer to you today is a bluegrassy, folksy tune which asks for God's protection through the night. My prayer is that the song will bless you and inspire you to seek God for rest as you lay down each night. Before the Ending of the Day Verse 1: Before the ending of the day, O, Good Shepherd of the sheep, we pray that you with steadfast love, would guard us while we sleep Verse 2: Your watch around us in the dark, O Lord, our only light, From evil dreams defend our minds, no more terrors in the night Verse 3: Through the hours cold and grim, to you God we sing our hymn The foe may shout and scream, Defeat! but we tremble not for him Verse 4: As the darkness turns to dawn, O, Creator of all days, May our hearts to heaven turn, and our lips to you sing praise! ©2021 Mike Neifert
