Artist: @marcolys Label: @r-srecords Originally released on the R&S Records sub-label Global Cuts in 1993, ‘20HZ’ by Capricorn became the breakthrough track for its creator Hans Weekhout, a Dutch multi-instrumentalist who started his career recording and mixing for international artists such as Falco and Ian Gillan. With its memorable combination of those rolling and thunderous marching drums, glacial marimba-like melodies and a tense, trance inducing atmosphere, ‘20HZ’ has become one of dance music’s most enduring tracks. Hitting the singles charts in Holland, Belgium, UK and France on release, and still being played week in and week out across clubs and festivals thirty years later, it’s fair to say that Capricorn’s snare drum driven hit can be classed as a bone fide classic. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of this behemoth anthem, R&S Records have enlisted an eclectic line-up of artists to add their own touches to a suite of remixes. Dutch composer and Apollo Records artist Andert Tysma reshapes ‘20HZ’ into a sublime ambient piece, accompanied by some tender piano work and soaring strings, whilst Italian DJ/producer Marco Lys stays true to the original, deploying a fresh and modern take and aiming it squarely at the dancefloor.
