Aboard the wreck, with its six absent crew and their belongings still lashed in place, Hari finds the unit isn't inert at all — it's been running for years, keeping a single unmarked vial alive. The contract says the cold has to end; everything else in that silent ship says it shouldn't, and Hari has eight hours, a multi-tool, and whatever's on his belt to decide what kind of contractor he is.
