Ep. 36: Get free or die trying.
from Healing Myself Hosted by Scott and Shaté Hayes
It's Juneteenth, and there couldn’t have been a more perfect time to talk about something our community holds onto quite dearly—FREEDOM. Nina Simone said: "I'll tell you what freedom is to me: no fear." It’s a powerful statement that we came to unpack today, among other things: What does it look like to be our most authentic and best selves? What does it look like to live, not just exist? To thrive, not just survive? How do we come alive again? Come join the conversation. We’d love to hear about your freedom journey. WHAT TO LISTEN FOR: What it means to be free [6:38] Who am I as a person? Am I living my freest version, politics aside? Am I to the best of my ability? Are the plans I made for myself going to happen? Freedom = no fear Freedom = giving yourself permission to just live and be on the journey Freedom in action [12:20] Not being too hard on yourself Getting rid of self-judgment and self-doubt Refraining from trying to meet ridiculous standards The haze of obtaining freedom [22:34] It’s not something that you achieve; it’s a state of being The courage to become vulnerable The inner critic that fosters self-doubt The difficulty of letting go of the guilt and shame Navigating through the haze [27:58] Finding new information (books, therapy, etc.) Meditation and prayer Learning to have complete confidence in yourself Lesson about freedom [32:58] Freedom is a choice You can embrace the experience of all your emotions, but don’t be controlled by them RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE Secret Lives of the Super Rich Listen to Free by Perri Jones The Slight Change of Plans - Podcast by Maya Shankar TO STAY CONNECTED: Spotify Playlist - Music for this moment.
