Wait, is it really this different? Even though we use the same mahjong tiles, the rules feel different. It almost feels like a different game. Today, I’ll share my experience with mahjong.==Instagram & Note(Blog)==https://www.instagram.com/outsidejapclass/https://note.com/taitaijapclass==How to use the scripts=1.You can listen first and guess the meaning without the script.2.You can read the script while listening.3.You can also practise reading out loud with the audio.However there is no right or wrong way.You can also simply enjoy the content and listen to the podcast for fun.Just relax and enjoy the podcast==Japanese and English scripts==みなさんは、麻雀をしたことがありますか。Have you ever played mahjong?私は日本にいるときに、友達とよく遊びました。When I was in Japan, I often played with my friends.夜に集まって、ゆっくりゲームをする時間が好きでした。I liked those slow evenings when we gathered and played.シンガポールに来てからも、麻雀をする機会がありました。After coming to Singapore, I also had chances to play mahjong.そのとき、最初に思ったのは、At that moment, the first thing I thought was,「え、めっちゃ簡単やん。」でした。“Wow, this is so easy.”ルールを少し聞いただけで、すぐにゲームに入ることができました。After hearing the rules a little, I could start playing right away.特にびっくりしたのは、アガり方です。What surprised me most was how you win.どんな形でも、チーやポンをしてアガることができます。You can win even after calling tiles like chi or pon.「え、それでいいの?」と思いました。I thought, “Is that really okay?”日本の麻雀では、いろいろな条件があります。In Japanese mahjong, there are many conditions.例えば、特定の形がないとアガれません。For example, you need specific patterns to win.1や9が入ったり、特別な牌を使ったりすると、If your hand includes certain tiles like 1 or 9, or special tiles,条件が変わってしまいます。the conditions can change.場合によっては、チーやポンをするとアガれなくなります。In some cases, calling tiles means you cannot win.だから、日本の麻雀は少し難しいと感じます。So Japanese mahjong feels a bit difficult.一方で、シンガポールの麻雀は、とてもシンプルです。On the other hand, Singapore mahjong is very simple.とりあえず形を作ればアガれる、という感じです。It feels like you can win as long as you make a shape.なので、ゲームのテンポがとても速いです。So the game moves very quickly.どんどん進んでいきます。It keeps going fast.もう一つ、面白いと思ったことがあります。There was another thing I found interesting.鳥や猫やネズミ、ムカデのような牌があります。There are tiles like birds, cats, mice, and centipedes.最初に見たときは、When I first saw them,「これ、何に使うの?」と思いました。I thought, “What are these for?”聞いてみると、ボーナスのようなものだと分かりました。When I asked, I learned they are like bonus tiles.持っていると、ポイントが増えます。If you have them, you get extra points.日本の麻雀にはないルールなので、Since this rule doesn’t exist in Japanese mahjong,とても新鮮に感じました。it felt very fresh to me.こういう違いを知ると、When you notice these differences,同じ麻雀でも、全然違うゲームに感じます。it feels like a completely different game.どちらがいい、悪いではないと思います。I don’t think one is better than the other.遊び方が違うだけだと思います。They are just different ways to play.トランプでも、いろいろな遊び方がありますよね。Like with cards, there are many ways to play.それと同じような感覚です。It feels similar to that.もしこれから始めるなら、If you are starting from now,シンガポールの麻雀の方が入りやすいと思います。Singapore mahjong may be easier to start with.ルールがシンプルで、すぐに楽しめます。The rules are simple, and you can enjoy it quickly.一方で、ゆっくり考えながら遊びたい人は、On the other hand, if you like thinking slowly,日本の麻雀の方が好きかもしれません。you might prefer Japanese mahjong.私はどちらも面白いと思います。I think both are interesting.そのときの気分で、遊び方を変えるのもいいですね。It’s nice to choose depending on your mood.こういう違いを体験するのは、Experiencing these differencesとても面白いなと思いました。feels very interesting to me.
