EP398 - Sexual Grief: Trauma, Loss & Heartbreak

from Sexology · host Dr. Nazanin Moali, Ph.D, Psychology of Sex | Couple Therapy | Sex Education

Welcome to episode 398 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to be speaking with Edy Nathan. In this conversation, we explore the idea of sexual grief. Edy explains how this term is tied to the traumatic events that can shape one's sexual identity and desire. Drawing from her clinical experience, Edy provides a thorough look at how sexual grief appears and impacts people. Edy Nathan is a licensed clinical social worker in private practice in New York City. Edy’s work focuses on topics surrounding the tough conversations people don’t like to have — grief, sex, and trauma. Her work in grief, trauma, and sexuality offers insight into the way loss affects the soul and the brain. She uses these insights to breathe new meaning into the lives of those stagnated by loss or trauma. Edy has master’s degrees in psychology, drama, and social work, and post-graduate work in sex therapy and sex education. She is a Certified Sex Therapist, certified Hypnotherapist, EMDR clinician, drama therapist, Psychology Today blogger, motivational speaker, and workshop leader. What I Love About Sex Stephanie Ganowski Stephanie Ganowski is a clinical sexologist and sex coach for men. In her podcast, “What I Love About Sex”, her mission is to take the pressure out of sex and put the pleasure in! She does this by helping men overcome their d*ck-related issues and improve their sex communication skills, so they can feel in control of their bodies and connecting deeply with their partners. Coaching clients 1:1 for 6+ years, with a background in psychology, relationship communication training and clinical sexology makes Stephanie the person you can trust to help you. She especially wants men to have a ‘go-to’ place for help here, so they feel they’re directly spoken to and supported. Stephanie is a firm believer that sex is like any other part of life in that we need to work to understand and improve it through practice, vulnerability and patience. And if we can do that while having fun and not taking ourselves so seriously, we can create the sex life we’ve always dreamed of.<br Explicit Pleasure Uprising: Desire, Attachment, and the Sex You Actually Want Laura Jurgens, Ph.D. Formerly The Desire Gap PodcastMost people who feel disconnected from their desire, their pleasure, or their partners have spent years assuming something is wrong with them. It isn't. Culture shapes that — the broader culture we inherit, and the family we grew up in — and it can be unlearned. Pleasure, secure attachment, and authentic desire are your birthright. You can learn what you were never taught — and unlearn what got in the way.Dr. Laura Jurgens is a somatic sex and intimacy specialist, Master Certified Intimacy Coach, American Board of Sexology Certified Sex Educator, and former research professor whose work sits at the intersection of nervous system science, attachment theory, and genuine embodi Explicit Puff and Discuss with Boo Tanisha Newell Puff and Discuss is a spin-off segment to the Facebook Group Sexperience with The Wives.
