Falcon Road (Ep 86)

from PocketNeif Podcast · host Mike Neifert

Sometimes life can be hard. You feel like you're running up a hill, barely able to catch your breath. The song I present in today's episode is as much about the rough patches in life as it is about the sandy, hilly rural byway which inspired it. Falcon Road, a side road a mile or two south of Sawyer, Kansas, is a road I and the cross country team I coach have run numerous times. It is challenging...just like life. I hope you are encouraged by the song which, until now, hasn't been sung much outside the tight circle of cross country runners and their parents. Falcon Road Verse 1: Falcon Road, your hills that meet the sky, Make me wanna cry, “Why am I running here?” Falcon Road, can’t hardly stand the heat, Or the sand beneath my feet, “Why am I running here?” Chorus 1: Your slopes rise up to beat me, While the wind blows in my face. I can barely take my next step, Falcon Road, why am I running here? Verse 2: Falcon Road, your thorns stick in my socks And my shoes fill up with rocks, “Why am I running here?” Falcon Road, run across your valley floor, I’m begging, please, no more, “Why am I running here?” Verse 3: Falcon Road, when life starts to fall apart, And the pain tears at my heart, “Why am I running here?” Falcon Road, I don’t think I can make it through, But you tell me that’s not true, that’s why I’m running here. Chorus 2: When life tries to defeat me And the world gets in my face I’ll remember what you taught me, Falcon Road, And I’ll keep running on, running on, running on. Verse 4: Falcon Road, your hills that meet the sky, Make me wanna cry, “Why am I running here?” Falcon Road, can’t hardly stand the heat, Or the sand beneath my feet, but I’m still running here. Chorus 3: When life tries to defeat me And the world gets in my face I’ll remember what you taught me, Falcon Road, And I’ll keep running on, running on, running on, Ending: Falcon Road, Oo – oo. Falcon Road, Oo – oo. I’ll keep running on Falcon Road. I’ll keep running on Falcon Road. I’ll keep running on Falcon Road. Falcon Road. 2014 Mike Neifert
