How does your therapist deal with Anxiety?

from Trauma Recovery Anonymous · host richiejtierney

Surely if your therapist sees anxiety as a mental disorder, then ask,  how does your therapist deal with their anxiety? Do they suffer in all the ways that you suffer anxiety? Do they push people away? Do they curl up in a ball and cry uncontrollably? Do they feel no one understands them or cares for them? Do they spend all their time with you talking about their feelings, their poor me instances, their peeves? Do they feel they should get a special pass in life? or Do they handle anxiety? Are they in control of their feelings? How do they cope with their anxiety? Surely, it would be a good idea to learn from them how they manage their feelings, like anxiety, fear & worry? Wouldn't it be a great thing if you learned how your therapist copes, copy what they do, and suddenly you would be in command of your feelings like your therapist? How cool would that be? Imagine the next time you feel anxious, rather than letting it rule you and needing to medicate how you feel, you copy what your therapist does, and you find yourself surviving that moment. What would that feel like? Wouldn't that be marvelous? You would be stronger, more confident, just like your therapist! Know you therapist will not force change on you, in case you feel threatened or isolated, but if you ask them for more productive ways to deal with anxiety, they will jump at the chance to empower you to overcome your fears and worries. So, the next time you feel anxious, worried or fearful about anything or anyone, ask your therapist what they would do in that situation.  Try it, if it works for you keep it; if it doesn't, discard it and ask for another idea or suggestion. There will come a time when you have tried so many of your therapists healthy coping skills that in the future when you are triggered, you will realize it isn't as bad as before, because now you feel in control. Doing this, asking others for their coping skills, not just your therapist, but your parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends. favorite teacher, professor or manager/boss; and one day you will no you no longer have an anxiety disorder, you'll see anxiety as a superpower instinct, to trust in the face of any danger HOW TO LIVE STRESS & ANXIETY FREE 24 HOURS A DAY by Richard Tierney #howtolivestressandanxietyfree24hoursadaybyrichardtierney #traumarecoveryanonymous
