How Many Times? (Ep 150)

from PocketNeif Podcast · host Mike Neifert

Peter once asked Jesus, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” (Matthew 18:21) Jesus' reply must've startled the man. “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times." (Matthew 18:22) Forgiveness is the duty of every kingdom citizen. In "How Many Times?", a song I wrote after reading this discussion, I remind myself (and others) of that responsibility (and joy) and recall God's repeated forgiveness of my sins. Verse 1: I find my heart filled up with anger When my brother, does harm to me I resist God’s call to pardon How many times must I forgive? Verse 2: How many times must I forgive him When my brother, does me wrong? Must I give him God’s full mercy Seven times or is it more? Chorus 1: How many times have I been pardoned? How many times have I been freed? So I pass on my God’s mercy To my brother who’s in need. Verse 3: I find my mind clouded with hatred When my sister, speaks ill of me I resist God’s call to pardon How many times must I forgive? Verse 4: How many times must I forgive her When my sister, does me wrong? I must give her God’s full mercy Seventy times and even more! Chorus 2: How many times have I been pardoned? How many times have I been freed? So I pass on my God’s mercy To my sister who’s in need. 2022 Mike Neifert (Inspired by Matthew 18:21-22)
