How To Handle Being Excluded And How To Be Included

from Intelligent Intoxication · host Terri Bradway

“Other awareness” is one of the four pillars of emotional intelligence. When we are self-aware and know/understand why we do what we do, we naturally become more other-aware and cognizant of the people we encounter or are in relationship with in our lives.  If we lack other-awareness, we may unintentionally exclude others.  Often, we unintentionally exclude because we ourselves have been excluded and/or are fearful of being rejected.  I invite you to consider these questions: When I feel excluded, how do I have my own back? What prevents me from being aware of myself when I’m feeling excluded? What prevents me from being aware of others? When do I notice “groveling” to be included even when I’m sacrificing who I really am in order to avoid rejection? When do you notice trying to be something or someone you’re not? What prevents you from telling the truth about who you really are? What prevents you from “putting yourself in rooms” with other like-minded people?
