How You're Limiting What You Really Want

from Intelligent Intoxication · host Terri Bradway

Welcome to Season 2 of Intelligent Intoxication: Crafting A Top-Shelf Life.    You’re either lit up, alive, inspired, and fulfilled in your personal and professional life, or you’re not. Yet. If you’re not, it’s likely because you’re not: challenging yourself and making continuous progress utilizing your inherent gifts to make the contribution only you can make to others prioritizing the pursuit of your passionate talents   In his best-selling book The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear And Take Your Life To The Next Level, author Gay Hendricks explains that we spend our time doing tasks or activities in four main “zones”: Incompetence: the things we’re not good at that others do better.  Competence: the things we’re good enough at that others do as well.  Excellence: the things you do extremely well yet aren’t fulfilling.  Genius: the things you are uniquely suited to do as they utilize your inherent gifts and passionate talents. These activities will allow you to feel lit up, alive,  inspired, and deeply fulfilled.    The author teaches a concept he refers to as an “Upper Limit Problem”: “Each of us has an inner thermostat setting that determines how much love, success, and creativity we allow ourselves to enjoy. When we exceed our inner thermostat setting, we will often do something to sabotage ourselves, causing us to drop back in to the old, familiar zone where we feel secure… our Upper Limit thermostat setting holds us back from enjoying all the love, financial abundance, and creativity that‘s rightfully ours… this is the Upper Limit Problem in a nutshell; that subconscious self-sabotage that happens when we get a taste of something great… “   “… the one problem that holds you back… I call it the Upper Limit Problem, and I haven’t met a person yet who didn’t suffer at least a little bit from it. Even if you’re extravagantly successful, I can promise you that your own version of the Upper Limit Problem is still holding you back from achieving your true potential.”   I invite you to take these immediately actionable steps:   Answer these questions (preferably on paper): What do I really want for my professional and personal life?  What am I currently believing is limiting or preventing me from having it?   I encourage you to complete this prompt: “I can’t have BLANK because I’m BLANK.”   Thank you for investing your valuable time and energy into listening to the podcast.
