Summary Vern hovers over Gwen in the rear doorway of the 707. Dr. Compagno and the nurse nun look on. “Hold on,” says Vern. “You’re gonna be all right. We’re going to make it!” Vern leans over and kisses her. Gwen squeezes Vern’s hand. Flight Two arrives back at Gate 33. There’s a rush of people through the terminal. “Please. Do not obstruct the tourist Jetway” intones an announcer. Weatherby shouts, “Open the gate!” He sees two attendants pushing a gurney. “Get that down here!” Behind the attendants are Nash, the airport doctor, followed by Tanya and Mel.  Sarah calls after them. “They’re down – – everything’s fine,” says Mel. “I was home, watching television, when -” begins Sarah. “I know,” says Mel. “A newspaper picked up a mayday call and flashed it all over. They’re alright.” Harry Standish follows behind Mel. “All passengers will deplane though the First Class Jetway,” intones the announcer. Peter Coakley holds the door open for the attendants with the gurney. “Stand back, please!” says Mel to the growing crowd in front of the First Class Jetway. “I’d like to get a statement,” says a TV reporter. “I’ll have a statement for you later,” says Mel, “and you can talk to the Captain, too.” “Please stand back, people, ” says Tanya, “This is too important. Please.” Mel opens the Jetway door, just as Stewardess Maria arrives off the Jetway. “We need a wheelchair!” says Maria.
