Parents, Teachers, Guardians are The First Line of Defense

from Trauma Recovery Anonymous · host richiejtierney

Understand that the adults in any child's upbringing are the first line of defense in teaching children that their feelings and emotions are not mental disorders, but rather they are their God-given instincts, their gut feelings to be trusted in the face of any danger. It's the adults in a child's life who know how to respond to anxiety and depression in healthier ways. They hold a safe place to practice all the different responses. Help children to understand that Freeze & Fawn were very healthy for younger children, but as we grow up, we have to use the other 4 responses, like:  Flight - Fight - Faith  - Acceptance. As we teach children to trust their feelings, to embrace the concept of  God, to understand how to recognize our responses, they will learn how to cope better. As the adults we have a responsibility to teach children to be independent. Maybe parents should have a workshop around the kitchen table, teachers and guardians to have workshops in the classroom. #howtolivestressand anxietyfree24hoursaday Working with children; allaying their fears that they are broken by doing the work with them; is both rewarding for them and for you. For many parents, we can feel like we are losing touch with our children, when in fact our children in their despair of not being good enough, can be wary of telling others of how they feel for fear of being smothered. What they subconsciously want and need to is to learn how to deal with life on life's terms. What better way, than to teach them to live and thrive  with Life on God's terms. Take this action, use this book, teach your children healthy ways to deal with life and you will be amazed before you are halfway through. You'll have mended bridges you though couldn't be fixed; your relationship with them will blossom; you'll get to that heavenly place where your children can feel safe expressing themselves with you. It will feel like a miracle, yet it will be a miracle you accomplished together. You can do this! You are the first line of defense It's not too late Your child is not mentally ill; they just don't understand how to deal with their feelings; but teach them, show them, let them see that  you have been challenged by the same feelings when you were younger also; that you learned how to cope and suggest they copy your coping skills, or that as a family or group, you all  act out our  those responses together, make it a fun exercise. This is a gift you give to your children, to your charges; that will come back to you tenfold.
