The Belief That Love Would Make Me Whole
from Disruptor Frequency · host Anna Chittick
There are events that do not announce themselves as defining. They happen, and then life continues, and the pattern they created moves quietly underneath everything that follows. You do not see it while you are living it. You only see it later, when you are far enough from it to look back and trace the line. This is one of those events. A moment at the end of adolescence, before adulthood had properly begun, where something was taken. Not just one thing. Two. And those two things became the exact territories that required the most work across an entire lifetime: money and relationships. The thread running underneath both is the same. A belief, formed young and reinforced quietly, that you must soften yourself in order to be wanted. That your boundaries are the price of admission. That the void inside you is something another person is supposed to fill. That belief does not arrive fully formed. It builds from moments. It borrows from experiences that seemed unrelated at the time and weaves them into a logic the body accepts as true. And then it runs. It shapes every relationship that follows, every dynamic, every pattern of choosing people who confirm what is already believed about the self. The shift is in understanding the difference between completion and complementing. The idea that two people must merge to become whole is the trap. It assumes that each person is, on their own, insufficient. That something is missing and the other person carries it. That love is a transaction of filling gaps. The alternative is harder to reach and far more stable. Two people, each whole within themselves, finding a way to exist alongside each other without needing the other to fix anything. That kind of relationship does not need the fear underneath it to function. It does not attract from lack. It attracts from fullness. Every relationship problem traces back to a fear you have carried, a boundary you did not hold, a belief you formed before you had the tools to question it. The other person is simply the mirror. They are showing you where the work still lives. The foundation being described here is seduction, and it is broader than the word suggests. It is the lure of something you think is outside you that will make you whole. Strangers are people you do not know yet, which means they are also desires you have formed before you know yourself fully. When you are still incomplete within yourself, what you reach for will always be shaped by the gap. The work is to close the gap yourself. So that what arrives next does not come to fill anything. It comes to amplify what is already there. Recorded and first published 3 May 2026. __ I’ve burned through enough identities to stop believing in a final version of myself. For a long time, I stood in the middle of reality demanding answers. Reality laughed, lit a cigarette, and left me holding the blueprint. Now I trace the patterns in identity, belief and human behaviour, and talk about what I find. My Ego Says Hi holds all my old podcasts, alongside whatever comes next. Different versions of me speaking from different points in the same life. My books, Money Surge, Body Surge and Love Surge, explore the patterns, beliefs and behaviours that shape our relationships with money, our bodies and love. Together they form the Surge Trilogy, three 21-day protocols available as full audiobooks on Spotify.
