TigerTalk 97 12/17/2019

from Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College · host Northeast Mississippi Community College, Michael H. Miller, Will Kollmeyer

In episode 97, host Will Kollmeyer welcomes eLearning coordinator Dr. Kim Harris to the podcast to talk about all the upcoming offerings for students during the Spring 2020 semester. In addition to award-winning in-classroom instruction, Northeast is second in the nation for online education and Harris' office are the people behind the scenes that make that happen. Not only does Northeast offer a wide variety of full-term online classes but it offers two eight-week short term sessions to help fit into a busy schedule. Harris talks about the advantages of online education and how many non-traditional students take that route to help balance work, family and education while accomplishing their educational dreams. In the second half of the podcast, financial aid associate Brandi Lauderdale stops by to talk about some tips and tricks to make the transition to college a little easier and how a recent change has made the financial aid office at Northeast more productive. Due to the recent change that opens the FAFSA applications in October, Northeast has already been able to process 1,100 applications for the next year. Lauderdale also talks about some of the things that incoming seniors can do during the Christmas break or the first part of the spring semester to help bolster their chances of having a stress-free financial aid experience. Between the segments, Kollmeyer gives a rundown of events that are happening in the next 10 days and also mentions a few events to be on the lookout for later in the month.
