Tough Love
from Trauma Recovery Anonymous · host richiejtierney
Understand your parents' worry about you; they don't have an anxiety disorder because they worry about you. They worry that when they are gone, there will be no one left to care for you, and so they use tough love to push you out of the nest and make you independent. This is tough love in action; the bible calls it Agape Love, the greatest expression of love there is. Your parents are willing to lose you to save you. People who validate your feelings and encourage you to bitch and moan snd express victimhood as a way of life are not your friends. Your parents and family, the people who truly care about you the most, will say the most hurtful things, hoping you will be offended enough to take affirmative action The next time a loved one uses tough love on you, rather than be offended, tell them the very thought of doing what they are suggesting really scares you, and could they explain it; that you don't want them to fix or save you, but how exactly do you take affirmative action. Then you do what they suggest: what works you keep, what doesn't you discard, and try again Trauma Recovery Anonymous is the best solution
