What Therapy Taught Me as a Believer

from Girl Loves GOD Podcast

Loving God has always been a core part of my life and for a long time, I believed that my faith alone was supposed to “fix” everything. I was taught, directly and indirectly, that if I just prayed more, trusted more, and leaned into God harder, the pain from my past would disappear. So when I was still hurting… I felt confused, ashamed, and even a little distant from God. In this video, I open up about what it looks like to love God deeply and still need therapy. We’re talking about breaking away from the belief systems many of us grew up with the idea that seeking help means your faith is weak, or that trauma should just be “prayed away.” The truth is, unhealed wounds don’t disappear just because we ignore them. And choosing to face them doesn’t make you less faithful it makes you honest. Therapy didn’t replace my relationship with God it helped me understand myself, process my experiences, and create space for deeper healing. It gave language to things I didn’t know how to pray about and helped me untangle pain I didn’t even realize I was carrying. If you’ve ever felt like: • “I love God… so why am I still hurting?” • “Is something wrong with me?” • “Shouldn’t my faith be enough?”You are not alone. Healing is not a betrayal of your faith it can actually be a part of how God restores you. This is your reminder that God can work through prayer, through people, and yes even through therapy. ✨ You can love God and still need help. ✨ You can have faith and still be healing. ✨ You are allowed to do both.
