When You're Someone's Safe Place

Being your child’s safe place is one of the most important things you do as a parent. It’s a big deal. It means you’re their go-to person, the one they trust most when everything feels hard.But here’s what’s also true: being that safe place can be utterly exhausting. Especially when your child is struggling and starts unloading all their big feelings onto you. It can feel relentless, like you’re giving so much, and all you’re getting back is attitude or upset.Sometimes feeling fed up doesn’t mean you’re failing. You’re absorbing a lot and that takes a toll.So take a moment to check in with yourself. How are you doing? What do you need right now? A rest? A walk? A cry? A moment of quiet?Remember, your child turning to you with their biggest feelings is a sign they feel secure with you. But you don’t have to carry it all alone. Your needs matter too.
