I was born blind, and with other disabilities as well.Growing up, the school system assumed that I was incapable of learning enough to become a fully functioning adult. This ultimately led to a situation where I actually missed out on grades 7-11 entirely. Thus the idea that I would end up with multiple advanced degrees was inconceivable to most of the adults in my life.I have also experienced other trials such as nearly losing custody of my first child due to disability discrimination. This occurred while we were helping her through treatment for a pediatric cancer, no less. She turned out ok, but those memories catalyzed me to strive for systemic change.As someone who lives with chronic pain and mental health struggles, I have found the beauty in serving as a means for survival. I know what it means to fight for opportunities and defy expectations on the path to becoming who we are meant to be. Moreover, I know what it means to sooth our own pain by helping someone in need reclaim the hope that they deserve.I feel blessed for having the chance to help people step into their brilliance, and facilitate changes within organizations that unleash the best in their people. Gary Janzen is a lifelong minister, missionary, and servant leader whose career spans more than five decades of dedicated service to the Church and to communities around the world. Gary married his best friend Karen in 1977 and together have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. A hallmark of his tenure was his partnership with Youth With A Mission (YWAM), through which he organized and led annual summer mission trips to Mexico from 1988 to 1999 — introducing hundreds of young people to the transformative experience of cross-cultural service. He also served as the chairman of the school board for 3 years at the private school attached to the church, Highroad Academy. Rounding out his time in Chilliwack, he was an elder at the Church and head coach of the high-school basketball team that he initiated in 1985, for many years as well.In 2001, Gary joined the pastoral staff at Southgate Church in Langley, British Columbia, where he would serve for a decade in a remarkable variety of roles. He served as director of the church's internship program, shaping the next generation of ministry leaders. He led Men's Ministry, creating spaces for spiritual growth, accountability, and community among men. And as Missions Pastor, he was part of an ambitious portfolio of church-planting and outreach initiatives spanning Jamaica, Japan, Taiwan, Spruce Grove (Alberta), the Philippines, and Peru, reflecting his conviction that the local church exists not only for its own community, but for the world.In 2011, Gary stepped into one of his most profound and personal assignments: serving as an independent missionary in Rwanda, Africa. Prophet Irving Benjamin, Jr. was born on February 14, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Irving Benjamin, Sr. and the late Vivian Ann Samuels. He was educated in the New York City Public School System and, in 1988, was accepted into Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers. That same year, he and his family joined Wayside Baptist Church in Brooklyn under the leadership of the late Rev. Joe L. Parker.During his time at Wayside, Prophet Benjamin recognized the call of God on his life through the preaching and teaching of Rev. Parker. He became actively involved in the ministry, serving on the Junior Usher Board and eventually becoming its president. He also served as President of the Youth Ministry for ages 17–19. I threw away all books, clothing, items associated with yoga and new age practices. God cleaned up my language and I stopped swearing like a sailor. I started reading the Bible and found an amazing church where I got baptized in March 2023. In July 2024, I drove cross country by myself to Washington state to follow the Lord’s command and pursue women’s ministry. On day two of my new life in WA, God showed me three times that He wanted me to volunteer at a women’s prison. From there, things happened quickly and I started as a volunteer with Prison Fellowship, a Christian organization dedicated to sharing the gospel with the incarcerated and helping their families.Life sure was a roller coaster the first year and a half here in WA, and I started to question if I had heard God incorrectly. I lost my job, housing, had very little money, and was all alone. But God provided for me every step of the way and just when I was about to give in and give up to my doubts and fears (my mom suggested I move back home to St. Croix for a bit), God stepped in to show that He wanted me to stay here in WA and changed all of my circumstances swiftly. I found a wonderful job at a private ambulance company in Seattle and have been working there since July, sharing the gospel and praying with patients and coworkers. I moved into a temporary home with a lovely couple until I could get back on feet and then earned enough money to find my own place in Seattle.God has been too gracious; He is far better to me than I deserve. And now, I have the opportunity to share to a wider audience all the amazing things He has done and continues to do. And it’s all because of who God is, His goodness and love.
