Young Canterbury golfer Cooper Moore is gearing up for the semi-final of the US Junior Amateur Championships in Bethlehem Pennsylvania, having beaten fellow Kiwi Ryan Xie in the quarter-finals. Golfer Garth Galloway joined the All Sport Breakfast to discuss the Charteris Bay Golf Club on Canterbury's Banks Peninsula. A tough nine hole course that looks across all the fabulous vistas that only Canterbury can provide with almost 200 members and only 30 minutes from Christchurch City. The Hawke Cup is one of New Zealand’s oldest cricket trophies, dating back to 1910, contested by district (minor) associations rather than the major first-class teams. Author Alec Astle expanded on the history of the Cup, alongside fellow author Murray Brown in the book The Challegers. Golfers in Canterbury are set to lose a key location, with the Pegasus golf course, north of Christchurch, expected to be mowed over.  Townhouse Developer Wolfbrook Property has purchased the town's 18-hole golf course, with plans to carve it up for housing.  The company says the course will be temporarily open, free of charge.  Golf Management+Marketing Director Mike Godinet told Lesley Murdoch frustration should be aimed at the previous owners who mismanaged the property, not Wolfbrook.  He says it's makes commercial sense but will make locals unhappy.  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
